About Shiro of Japan - The Shops @ Atlas Park
For over 42 years, and now over 8 years in our Glendale Queens location, Shiro of Japan has the reputation for providing patrons with an exceptional and authentic Japanese dining experience at affordable prices.
Shiro of Japan was founded on the tradition of “true” Japanese hibachi steak house, a concept that introduced America to the cooking art form known as teppanyaki. In Japanese, teppan means an “iron plate” or a “steel sheet,” and yaki, “stir-fried food” or “stir-frying.” The teppanyaki and hibachi styles, come together to create a mouth-watering form of cuisine that continues to increase in popularity in the New York region and across the nation.
Note, when making an online reservation please specify Hibachi or our main dining room.

Shiro of Japan - The Shops @ Atlas Park Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time eating here and we came to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. The staff was very friendly and the space itself was nice. The food was just okay for us and really not worth the price. It was nothing out of this world... I don’t think we’ll be back honestly.
On behalf of my family and I, I want to thank you all for your great service and accommodations to assure my twins 21st bday was a success. We truly enjoy the environment, food, and drinks... but most importantly the great customer service we received... thank you so much
We were greeted by a friendly young man upon entering the Shiro of Japan Restaurant at The Shops @ Atlas Park in Queens, NY and seated immediately. The staff and chef were all very attentive to the needs of all the people at our hibachi table. The prices were not cheap but the food was good. I felt that an extra charge of $4.95 for "fried rice", a small bowl of white rice with an egg, onions and soy sauce was a bit much.
This was my third time visiting this establishment. The food is pretty good, but when you go to a restaurant like this it's to experience the preparation of the food. The waiter was very pleasant and came around to check on us at perfect intervals. The chef left something be desired. He got annoyed with the waiter about something and rebuked him in front the table and proceeded to be very short with everyone. It was my son's first time, while he enjoyed it, I was disappointed with the chef. Other than that issue everything else was good and I wouldn't let that one chef prevent me from visiting again!
It was extremely over priced for sushi. Their cut is obviously not up to par and the freshness was a bit less then average. The hibachi was ok nothing special over all this place is trying to pass for something that doesnt equate to price. Your better off at Sakura for sushi and fried rice and beef.
A fun place for Japanese hibachi, although it is a little pricey. We enjoyed our meal in spite of few little annoyances. The restaurant is on the noisy side, and some of our silverware was not terribly clean and had to be changed. The service is attentive but certainly not elegant. Also there is no real wine menu so we stuck to beer, which was good.
The experience was excellent . We go there alot and it's always perfect. From walking in the door to leaving. The hosts are wonderful by greeting us immediately, then our server was impeccable as always. She never misses anything from down to the level of water in our cups. She is always very respectful and curtious. There is no other way to explain shiro of Japan but I know whenever we want a perfect lunch or dinner we know exactly where to go and that's shiro of Japan
Went with a group of 7 for Mother's Day. We had our own hibachi table. Service was very attentive and having the option of sushi at the hibachi table was very nice. The chef put on a fun performance but the food was just OK. Not the chef's fault, just the restaurant's recipes. The meal was not cheap so next time would just go to Benihana's.
It was my mother birthday everything was amazing, from the waiter to the cook to the front desk. They sand happy birthday to my mom, the waiter kept coming to check on us. The food taste so good. Will deft come back here. I'm extremely grateful and well trained staff
A good bang for your buck... wifes words portion sizes could stand for some improvement our hibachi chef was a great addition with his version of the fireman... would go again as a regular meal not as a special occasion my only complaint would be the initial entry the host he was like only thing out of place and borderline rude.
Our server was very attentive; however, we were not very impressed with the esting experience. After going to other hibachi places, and waiting too long to finally come here, I had high expectations for Shiro of Japan. Our food was a bit overcooked, didn't appreciate that the cook catered more to a another family rather than to equally do to us and another couple, to the point that he gave one less shrimp (from the 3-shrimp appetizer) to the gentleman besides us and just said "sorry", when he actually gave it to the other family. Completely disproportioned. They never gave us our green tea. I def. enjoy the sushi bar better, and won't return to the hibachi.
Unfortunately I had expected better given the reviews. The was somewhat greasy and flavorless. The sushi is a must avoid.
The wait staff do not do a good job. I finished my first drink before appetizers and waited until end of meal to finally be asked if wanted another. They only had one bottle of soy sauce on the table and when my daughter requested it they took it from another customer on the other side of the table.
I would have rated 5 stars all the way through, however there needs to be better management with Reservations, I arrived 10 minutes early without the additional 4 people in our party of 6 and let the receptionist know we will all be here at 6:30. We had to wait 15 minutes later as others were being seated. The food was extremely salty and drinks (long island ice tea) was watered down. Our chef ( spanish guy) was perfect. Had everyone entertain at our table that the other tables wanted him. I will go again. It is a hidden gem in the neighborhood.
The wait was long and the restaurant was extremely noisy because of a group sitting next to us. They yelled and shouted as if they were in their living room. Our reservation was for 630 and we didn't get to eat our food until 45/50 mins later. Once the chef began to prepare our food he literally doused every single thing (rice, chicken, noodles, vegetables, etc) in a ridiculous amount of soy sauce. We probably consumed 4 days worth of sodium in that one meal. Thanks but no thanks.
