Shipwreck Point Ratings and Reviews
Our evening started off well w/complimentary valet and a lovely&kind hostess waiting to take our coats and seat us. She offered us water&was extremely hospitable.
Next we met our waitress Alexis. This is where I got a little nervous about where the night would go. She made a noise&said, “sorry, I burped.” Not for nothing, we are all human - but she could have easily said she had hiccups or just made no comment at all. And to be fair, Alexis was an okay server - but not nearly up to the caliber of her peers as I surveyed the room throughout the night.
At some point every server, hostess, bus person&manager checked on our table, cleared a plate or filled our drinks. I’ve never witnessed such team work from a staff. I watched the hostess who greeted us go outside to help the valet as the snow began to fall w/moving cars, come back inside to seat tables, fill drinks&take photos for patrons. I watched the other hostess change and set multiple tables. I witnessed the kitchen staff go outside to help the valet shovel snow. The manager serving food, filling drinks&helping his team. It was honestly some of the best service I’ve seen in a restaurant. If not for Alexis’ initial unprofessionalism this place would’ve gotten 5 stars&then some for service! I had to have my boyfriend work w/the manager to figure out how we could get cash to tip out all of the help (no atm there which is kind of a bummer but the manager had no problem ringing out a tip on the register and giving us cash, which was very nice and helpful).
The food was overall very excellent. Save the pop ups or whatever the name is they use for the bread offering (which resembled a crescent roll but was tasteless&dry, the butter also tasted as though it sat out). But if that’s my only food complaint I’m not doing too badly.
The filet was perfect, the soups&salads were delicious, the sides&apps were perfect! The apple crisp was delicious but definitely not crispy. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.
My girlfriend and I decided to come here for Valentine’s Day, although this isn’t our first time here, the experience is always top-notch. Great location, atmosphere and he most important; the food, was perfect, the staff was friendly and respectful and made for a great dining experience! Definitely will recommend to friends and family! See you soon!
Shipwrecked is a terrific restaurant that I have eaten at often when I am down at the Shore. The food is predictably good, and the wait staff warm and friendly. The noise level is high so corner seating is desirable. Fun dinner location for a date and delicious food. A definite recommendation!
It was a pre-valentines dinner. We have been there before and love the food. If you don’t have a reservation be prepare to wait. It’s worth it. It’s not a place to go on a first date because the crowd is loud and it’s hard to have a conversation. The service is friendly and very attentive.
Great dining experience. Food was excellent from the appetizers to the main course. Staff was friendly, professional and accommodating. Nice ambience and location. The owners were present and introduced themselves to various dining patrons inquiring about their dining experience and thanking you for coming. Definitely would recommend this restaurant!
This place never lets me down and has become my favorite place in the area by far. The staff and owner couldn't be more friendly and the view is a rare one for the area as the commercial fishing fleet heads out in the dark.....which is fun to watch as they cruise by the restaurant.
I enjoy bringing clients as well as family and friends here and go as often as possible.
In addition to terrific steaks, fish and other dishes, the wine list is excellent and the manager Corey knows his stuff and is always happy to assist with selection.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
This could be a very good spot. The food is good, the service was fie, but it’s way too expensive. Dinner for two with the tip was $240.00. I am not a cheap person by any means and I’ve been to many many restaurants and this needs to be less expensive. Even the drinks were high.
Although we looked forward to a special dinner on Christmas Eve, we were very disappointed wth the quality of food offered for the price. I had the Lobster trio for $52 that should have been $38-42 for the portion I was given. My boyfriend had the NY strip for $46. For the quality of meat on his plate, the price should have been around $35-40.
We may go back for the bar but not for the food!
The food was amazing as was the service. Other reviewers have said it was loud and yes it was and the place was not even full. We love the ambiance and we were definitely feeling special celebrating my husbands retirement. Wednesday is half price wine night which was a pleasant surprise.
Love the food and the service was impeccable. This was our third dining experience at Shipwreck Point and every single one was a terrific experience. I have and always will recommend this establishment to anyone that wants to dine in the Point Pleasant area.
Very expensive, but intimate romantic environment. Food was really nothing to brag about. Side dishes were boring and not too tasty.
Service was excellent from both our female server and bar tender. Very friendly people.
I'd recommend bringing a date here for a couple drinks, but I wasn't really impressed with the bar menu either. This place is all about the intimate setting at the bar area and great friendly service.
This visit was for an 80th Birthday celebration. The food was outstanding, the wine and beer selections were excellent, and the dining room was understated elegance. Our waiter did an exemplary job, professional, knowledgeable, and attentive without being suffocating. Dining here is quite expensive but for a special occasion it is well worth it.
This restaurant exceeded my expectations. The food , lets just say the NY Strip steak melted in my mouth. The twice baked potato was creamy . The wait staff was courteous and attentive. Our waiter Peter C was pleasant and professional . The only thing that is true about other "negative" reviews you will read is that the atmosphere is loud. However, you'd have to expect this with any restaurant that serves such quality food because it is always going to be busy.
With tin ceiling and a large group that came in, the noise level went from reasonable to very loud. One couple sitting next to them moved next to us and we were across the room. Once the restaurant was full, it was hard to hear anyone speak. My advice, get to an early dinner and go see a movie after, too noisy during prime hour
Hadn't been back to point in awhile ( many Google-great rests. in the area) so wanted to see their progress in dinner, etc. apps were creative and served at temperature. Everything is a-la-carte and pricy........ The 8 oz. fillet mignon was hooked correctly and flavorful. The 20oz. Dry aged rib steak was cooked to request(mr) and flavorful.
The requested sautéed mushrooms were shiitakes (great!) and generous.
The steak, however was sinued and fatty. Most of the declared weight went back to the kitchen as non-edible. A bit of a disappointment......smashed garlic potatoes fresh/good.
No room for dessert. Noise level quickly got to a rock concert level, causing still louder exchanges with my partner..... Stone floor and metal ceiling doesn't help....
Wine prices a bit high (about a 300% markup) but choices good and pour at least 4 oz. by the glass. End result: Very classy rest. with great water views. Once in awhile is fine but there are better ones around with less notice and better prices.
Our first visit. Crab cake and tuna appetizers were good; next time I’d try the oysters. Filet and strip steak were fine, better than most steak places locally but nothing exceptional; the sauce that came on the side (they offer several, but the server did not ask and we neglected to specify) was odd — too sweet - but unnecess. Valet parking is a nice touch, the view and location are charming, and the dining room was busy but not overcrowded. Noise level is high though, especially in the bar; not a place for quiet conversation, at least on a Saturday night. Well made if pricey cocktails( one martini, one coke =$20). We’ll go back.
We've dined at Shipwreck Point before and the food and service this time was definitely not as good. The steak was very good but the sides were cold and undercooked. We would've sent it back if our waiter was anywhere to be found. He was MIA most of the evening and forgot the coffee with our dessert. We were so distracted from looking for our server that we realized after we left that the Birthdays we were there to celebrate were totally overlooked.
Excellent experience all around! The food was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Each of us had a different cut of steak, and they were all delicious. The popovers were a special treat, and the lobster bisque was especially good. The cocktails were creative and tasted delicious. The wine list offers an excellent selection. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to return!
