This visit was for an 80th Birthday celebration. The food was outstanding, the wine and beer selections were excellent, and the dining room was understated elegance. Our waiter did an exemplary job, professional, knowledgeable, and attentive without being suffocating. Dining here is quite expensive but for a special occasion it is well worth it.
This restaurant exceeded my expectations. The food , lets just say the NY Strip steak melted in my mouth. The twice baked potato was creamy . The wait staff was courteous and attentive. Our waiter Peter C was pleasant and professional . The only thing that is true about other "negative" reviews you will read is that the atmosphere is loud. However,you'd have to expect this with any restaurant that serves such quality food because it is always going to be busy.
With tin ceiling and a large group that came in, the noise level went from reasonable to very loud. One couple sitting next to them moved next to us and we were across the room. Once the restaurant was full, it was hard to hear anyone speak. My advice, get to an early dinner and go see a movie after, too noisy during prime hour
Hadn't been back to point in awhile ( many Google-great rests. in the area) so wanted to see their progress in dinner, etc. apps were creative and served at temperature. Everything is a-la-carte and pricy........ The 8 oz. fillet mignon was hooked correctly and flavorful. The 20oz. Dry aged rib steak was cooked to request(mr) and flavorful.
The requested sautéed mushrooms were shiitakes (great!) and generous.
The steak, however was sinued and fatty. Most of the declared weight went back to the kitchen as non-edible. A bit of a disappointment......smashed garlic potatoes fresh/good.
No room for dessert. Noise level quickly got to a rock concert level, causing still louder exchanges with my partner..... Stone floor and metal ceiling doesn't help....
Wine prices a bit high (about a 300% markup) but choices good and pour at least 4 oz. by the glass. End result: Very classy rest. with great water views. Once in awhile is fine but there are better ones around with less notice and better prices.
Our first visit. Crab cake and tuna appetizers were good; next time I’d try the oysters. Filet and strip steak were fine, better than most steak places locally but nothing exceptional; the sauce that came on the side (they offer several, but the server did not ask and we neglected to specify) was odd — too sweet - but unnecess. Valet parking is a nice touch, the view and location are charming, and the dining room was busy but not overcrowded. Noise level is high though, especially in the bar; not a place for quiet conversation, at least on a Saturday night. Well made if pricey cocktails( one martini, one coke =$20). We’ll go back.
We've dined at Shipwreck Point before and the food and service this time was definitely not as good. The steak was very good but the sides were cold and undercooked. We would've sent it back if our waiter was anywhere to be found. He was MIA most of the evening and forgot the coffee with our dessert. We were so distracted from looking for our server that we realized after we left that the Birthdays we were there to celebrate were totally overlooked.
Excellent experience all around! The food was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Each of us had a different cut of steak, and they were all delicious. The popovers were a special treat, and the lobster bisque was especially good. The cocktails were creative and tasted delicious. The wine list offers an excellent selection. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to return!
My wife and I went for our 16th wedding anniversary and we extremely disappointed. Service was good, food was horrendous. Do not waste your time and money. We will never return and wouldn't recommend to our worst enemies.
The Food was good, overall very noisy everyone talking louder to hear each other. Overall attention from wait staff was lacking - at least 3 times they failed to fill water cups- 2 d people were only drinking water of the 4. One trip filled only the glass of 1 person and failed to notice the other person could use a refill.
The food was excellent. Perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful steaks and the sides were very good especially the garlic smashed potatoes. It was probably one of the best sides I ever had.
The service unfortunately was the complete opposite and could not have been any worse. We showed up at 6:45 for 7:15 reservations and after a bit of confusion at the front desk on if our table was ready yet we were told it will only be a few minutes so we decided to wait at the bar. Come 7:30 we still had yet to be seated despite numerous other parties being sat during this time after speaking with the hostess again it was clear that they either 1 forgot about us or 2 gave the table away. Next we watched as they quickly scrambled to put a table together and were told they were just setting the table. When we finally walked it we saw several tables empty and had been for a while. We were sat in a back corner with a tables that wobbled. We only learned that they had specials as we were eating our apps and heard another waiter tell his table about them. That would have been nice. It seemed they were understaffed. Waited a long time to get bread and saw several tables sat after us get theirs before hand. Thankfully our waitress came over to check on how our steaks were so we could ask where our sides were.
Overall excellent food but horrible service
One of the best steaks I have ever had. Was a little too loud due to the fact there were two very large tables near us. My date and I had to sit next to each other instead of across the table due to the noise level. The waitresses did a good job handling all of these huge tables. There was a little bit of a wait between courses (I am sure the large parties had a lot to do with it), but when the food came...it was worth the wait! Had the lobster bisque, rib eye and the lobster Mac and cheese. All wonderful. Will definitely go back. (Just hoping not as loud)
We were so excited to dine at Shipwreck for our 30th anniversary but were very disappointed. The host was excellent as he greeted us immediately and sat us at a window seat. He let us know who would be serving us and then left. Although the restaurant was empty we did not receive any attention for over 5 minutes when our host came back and brought us water. We finally got our server and she took a drink order but was not very friendly. My wife received the wrong wine. We were not offered any specials or recommendations so we ordered off the menu. Food was brought out in short time but shrimp cocktail was warm and undercooked. Our main course was also brought out in short order and steak was overcooked and charred and my pasta was overcooked with a very small portion of seafood. We were not offered any pepper or cheese and had to wait for server to come back in dining room which was another 5 minutes until we could eat after pepper was brought. Overall I think the restaurant had a very bad night and service was weak. There appeared to be a General Manger on duty but he never stopped by to see how we were doing even thought there were only 4- 5 tables of guests. Not ever going back which is a shame as we are new to the area.
As always the food was excellent, but as always, the noise volume was overwhelming. Large loud parties, many patrons who have had too much to drink spoil what should a fine dining experience as the food is very, very good, but the atmosphere; poor.
In addition, the restaurant needs to learn that when they accept a reservation, it means a reservation, and not expect the patron to accept that they are having trouble moving tables and had to accommodate large walk in groups. Other wise, give up Open Table and stop taking reservations. Dining / Wait staff and Hostess also need to better coordinate / communicate in regard to table availability, especially in light of small size of dining room. Being seated at 9:25 PM for a 9:00 PM reservation on a Sunday night, and only after having reminded the Hostess that we were still waiting, and only after the Hostess wanted to know if I wanted to talk to a manager, simply unacceptable.
Shipwreck Point is in a lovely location on the inlet, but that's where the fun ends. We had a reservation for 6:30 and the restaurant was by no means full, but it was NOISY! Our waiter did not approach our table for approx. 20 mins. We ordered our meal and it took almost 30 mins to get our salads. The people next to us , who arrived later and had a different server, got their main course before we got our salad. I ordered one of their boneless steak specials, and was told they were out of it (at 6:30? WOW!) I was encouraged to order a larger more expensive portion of the same steak. When I said that it was too large , the waiter replied that it was the same amount of meat but with a large bone which made it weigh more. DUH! Why would I pay $20 more for a bone?? I ultimately ordered a seafood pasta dish. It was tasteless. Dessert was a bit better, but maybe that's because they don't make them in house. That's what the waiter said anyway.
We had a nice table looking out at the water. We had been told that the wines were 1/2 off that night of the week, so we ordered a very nice wine. It turns out that only certain wines were 50% off, only those listed on a certain page of the menu. That should have been better explained. My husband and I both ordered our steak Medium Rare. His was rare to medium rare, (excellent) and mine was medium well!! Overcooked. Not at all what I had wanted. When the waitress asked how everything was, I hadn't yet sliced into the steak, and mistakenly said things were fine.
The NOISE level of the restaurant was extremely LOUD. My husband and I practically had to shout across the table to each other. It was extremely difficult to hear. This did not make for a relaxing evening! This restaurant would be better suited for a large, noisy group out for drinks. Not recommended if you are looking for a quiet dinner.
My Veal chop was excellent,wife's lobster tails tender but no taste, service good The noise level is very high. can't really have a conversation with your partner. I would hesitate to return until the noise level is corrected which I was told would be happening in January.
Total ship wreck in the worse sense.

Wonderful experience!! This was our first time dining here and so glad we came. The service and food was top notch. The indoor ding was a bit loud but we were able to get a table on the outdoor patio. It was perfect! The atmosphere was lovely. The owner gave us a nice greeting when we arrived and also talked to us as we were leaving. All around great night and we'll definitely be retuning.
I think 3 stars is fair the the dining experience we had at Shipwreck point. The food was good but not quite at the level of its price point. That probably wouldn't have been an issue but there was also significant delays with the service. Our waiter was a nice guy and very professional, but either he had too many tables to handle or the kitchen screwed him over. Our first round of drinks came on time, but then it was 25 minutes for oysters and soup to come out and then another 40 minutes for the appetizers to arrive. Our main course hit the table exactly 2 hours after we sat down. Finished appetizer dishes sat on the table for 30 minutes before they were cleared. Usually that wouldn't have bothered me, but at a price point that averaged to $100/person (including a moderately priced bottle of Pinot Noir) I would expect better service. Maybe we hit them on an off (Sunday evening) night.
Very slow, long night. We had a reservation at 8, they were about an hour late seating us and we didn't get out of there till almost 11pm. They did not even apologize for being to late on the res. There were only 2 tables by the time our food was delivered so I am not sure what took so long, but it was way too slow. Service was good, and our waitress was very nice, but again, slow. Some of us got shrimp cocktail while others got salads and they were brought out separately, so 2 people ate the shrimp, we waited for salads, then the other 2 had salads. Waitress should have known to bring them out altogether or to ask if we wanted them separately. No one ordered both, so they should have been brought out together. That took a bit of the time, then we just waited forever for our dinners. Otherwise, we thought the food was good. It is nice to have the option of a nicer dinner at the beach, but next time we will let them know we are not looking for a 3 hour meal.
Was sadly disappointed. Oysters were smaller than described by the waitress. Casear salad was very bland. Took a long time for our entree to come out. Sauce for beef was cold and separating. Side dish vegetable was also bland. High prices. Noise level was a little loud. View of inlet is obstructed by parking lot.
