The service at the Ships Tavern is very slow and the food was cold. Before dinner we had a drink in the atrium/lobby around 5pm and the staff started vacuuming…very loud and not inviting! We are Denverites and have patronized the Brown Palace for decades…it has certainly gone downhill. Too bad because it’s a local historic treasure!

The prime rib must be from an animal unknown to the public with a taste that is literally out of this world. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with the best experience we could have wished for. Thank you!

Never been to the tavern and we were looking forward to lunch with some friends there. Very disappointed with the entrees (although one member of or group liked the Greek salad a lot). An order of the prime rib at medium was served well done and retuned to the kitchen. The replacement was rare and tough. Our waitress was fine, but food was slow coming out of the kitchen (it was the day of the stock show parade, so that may have impacted the kitchen), but overall a disappointing experience, especially since friends highly recommended it (they blame Marriott takeover).

We've been to Palace Arms and had afternoon tea at the Brown Palace, but this was our first time at Ship Tavern. Have to say we were disappointed. The service was great, but the food wasn't as good was we expected. I had steak & frites and the steak was a bit tough. My husband was really unhappy with the prime rib - it was overdone and much much fattier than a good prime rib should be. The black bottom pie was mostly whipped cream. I think we wouldn't have been as disappointed if our expectations weren't so high from our prior dining experiences here.

My husband and I enjoyed a date night in the Ship's Tavern on 12/30/2022. He had Prime Rib (excellent), and I ordered Fish and Chips; also excellent. Service was very good and the ambience was fun for people watching. We both had a cocktail and my husband's bourbon and seven was premium. Also enjoyed wandering by the Brown's Lobby to see the beautiful Christmas decorations.

Cool ambiance and good drinks. Fun to see the Brown Palace decorated for the holidays. Service was on the slow side and food was not quite worth the price. It was decent, but basically just pub fare for around $30+ a plate.

Overall, it was a disappointing dinner. The service started out very slow. It took at least 20 minutes to get our first drinks. Although the restaurant was busy, it was not packed. After our server, Joe, turned in our drink order, it looked as though no one was behind the bar making drinks. Our appetizers came out in a reasonable time after our drinks. My crab cake was very tasty but lukewarm. The French Onion soup was good and hot but nothing unusual. The Wedge salad was nice and chilled. The two "famous prime rib" entrees were but. The prime was ordered medium rare, but the meat was quite cool and red. The baked potato for one entrée was barely warm, as were the vegetables. These two items were quickly sent back. The replacements weren't brought out until the other two people in our party had finished their meals. Even though the meat was properly cooked and the sides hot, the prime rib was flavorless and chewy. The fish and chips entrée was good - moist and not greasy - and the pork tenderloin was excellent. Served with potato pierogi, it was one of the best pork dishes I have had in a while. Our server was very prompt in addressing our concerns about the food. The restaurant comped both the prime rib entrees and that was appreciated. Maybe it was an off night for the restaurant. When I read recent reviews about this restaurant it seemed like the food and service was a hit or miss from diners. I'm not sure if I will return. Maybe for the pork tenderloin. Delicious!

Ship Tavern is a classic Denver spot in the famous Brown Palace Hotel. It is fun to learn the history and look around the beautiful lobby, especially when it's decorated for Christmas. Sadly, the food just didn't match the history or our experiences from years past. Sadder, is that the experience declined over the past 4 years or so and hasn't improved. The food was good but not great. The chowder had sat awhile. It was extremely thick and had skinned over. A bit disappointing but we enjoyed our outing. Also note that gluten free options were not noted in the extensive sandwich menu. Vegetarian options were also limited.

The burger and fish n chips were tasty, but the very expensive tenderloin was not worth the $49 we paid for. The seafood pasta and veggie ravioli were decent, but it just feels the overall quality of the food has lessened. This is sad for us, as we have long enjoyed coming to the Ship's Tavern - we were disappointed when the lobster roll was removed from the menu a while back, but continued to return; we were surprised last night to see the amazing breadbasket that used to adorn each table was nowhere in sight. We hope the overall quality does not continue to degrade as the Brown Palace overall is a permanent fixture in the Denver scene that we hope to continue patronizing.

Terrible experience. We expected a quiet casual dinner with good food and conversation. Instead, they allowed a giant party to take over the room and stand around, surrounding our table, standing over us. Miserable. The food was just so-so. They never should have booked our reservation for that night with the party spilling out everywhere. Service was slow; we couldn't get out of there fast enough. Not what you expect from the Brown Palace. We've been going there for years, but never again.

The worst experience ever! If I could give it zero stars I would. 40 minute wait for water, self served ourselves menus, raw meat on burger & chicken sandwich, freezing cold hard French onion, powder chucks in hot chocolate, prime rib sandwich with cold cheese no condiments & horseradish….3 hour meal, asked to see manager, pointing & tapping finger in our chest, only one poor waitress on verge of nervous breakdown….not one of ten meals edible & >$700 check with zero acknowledgment from manager. THE WORSE PLACE EVER!

We enjoyed our latest visit to the Ship Tavern in Brown Palace Hotel and Spa. Making reservations was key to our being able to dine with friends during this busy time of year. The hostess was so friendly and accommodating. At our reservation time we were quickly seated. The waitstaff was attentive, and well versed in the options of gluten free choices. Our waiter was superb as he also is gluten intolerant. Appetizers were brought and our main courses were delivered timely. Our entrees were, the prime rib, fish and chips, and meatloaf. None of them disappointed us, and we had plenty to take some home! The only negative point would be that there were more tables than at previous visits, which gave a cramped feeling to the dining room. We are looking forward to another wonderful dining experience at the Brown Palace.

The sea food pasta, while ripe with mussels, scallops and shrimp, was flavorless and almost cold. With some ground red pepper seasoning added, it was ok. Also, 2 of the 6 draft craft beers were out, not a good sign of inventory management. Not a sterling evening, unfortunately.
