We went the Brown Palace for the Champagne Cascade and then at the Ship Tavern after the event. My husband's entree did not come out with mine. Both of our meals were not made to our preference. Our sever never returned to our table after taking our order until she dropped off the check...another server checked on my husband's entree when it did not arrive and that same server took our payment. We enjoy the brunch and afternoon tea at the Brown Palace but will not be returning to this part of the hotel.

I have been here twice in the last month and the service, food and ambiance are excellent. Good for catching up, good for business. It gets crowded quick, I recommend an earlier reservation if you can do it.

We went to the Ship Tavern on a Tuesday night for our wedding Aniiversary. We are new to Denver and have heard all about the Brown Palace! Well apparently we did not choose the right place at the Brown Palace. It was loud and the service was so slow. The food was okay but nothing special. Apparently the excuse was that they have a new computer system that they are learning. I think our waiter forgot that we were there. Part of my husband's meal was cold but nobody came to check on us or even near us so we could not even tell anyone. It was so loud we could hardly talk with one another. Certainly not the romantic dinner we were hoping for. Is there another restaurant in the Brown Palace that we should have gone to? It totally disappointed us!

Always love a meal and treat to be in the "Palace". Haven't been there in a long time but did enjoy as much as always.

I love this place! It is so cozy, the history is awesome and the food is amazing. Traditional, delicious, comforting food . The Melba toast and bread is second to none. Wait staff is always very attentive and professional.

How many 125 year old restaurants are there? They are doing more than just something right. Great Prime Rib and the best French Onion soup, ever! Maritime bar theme (in Denver). Located inside the incredible Brown Palace Hotel ( a Marriott Autograph member hotel and spa in downtown town Denver) only one block off the 16th street mall.

The hotel is triangular, so be sure to walk to the intersection and read the monument plaque in the sidewalk. It has the opening night menu from 125 years ago.

(Side note: Molly Brown stayed here after the Titanic sinking. However, she was not related to this Brown Family.)

Be certain to look at the lobby stained glass ceiling and the hotels romantic main dining room!

Food was good and included buffalo options. We were there on a weeknight and it was pretty noisy. We had a party of 5 and it was difficult to hear the person at the other end of the table.

First time experience. Brought an out of toe friend from LA where Dining/food experience is almost always excellent. Ambience was fun/bar atmosphere, service very good, wine excellent. Food 😂. Bread too crusty, barely warm and on the bottom/dry. the scallop pasta was barely warm and missing the peas.
Returned to kitchen but came back second time not much better. Inquired about peas that were suppose to be in dish. waiter said kitchen said out of them. when we asked for a green veggie, waiter was most obliging to provide. Too bad, your reputation says your food is excellent.

Ship Tavern, at the Brown Palace, was very disappointing.
They are apparently living on their (old) reputation; I understand that it is now owned by a group from Texas.
Their food is now best described as horrible. Their drinks, while always over-priced, are now ridiculously so.
Amazingly the burgers were both dry and greasy at the same time; oh yeah, and also, except for the excessive over-salting they were pretty much tasteless (in my opinion, any kitchen that uses that much salt is probably trying to cover up something).
So called "risotto" was probably the worst I've ever had, not only under-cooked but also without any flavor; it was just poorly prepared rice!
The salmon, ordered medium rare, was way over-cooked and very far from fresh.
Needless to say I shall not be re-visiting until I hear that they've replaced the kitchen staff.

Food was very good and our out of town friends were happy. However, we told the waitress that 2 of the party were celebrating their 80th birthday and we assumed there would be a recognition or small desert given in honor as it usually done in restaurants. It was not the exact day of the birthday but our friends had flown in from NY for this celebration. That was kind of a letdown.

It breaks my heart to say it, because I've been going to the Ship Tavern for almost four decades, but the food is simply awful lately.
I keep going back, stupidly, and it is consistently mediocre. They can't cook a burger to a particular specification. My medium well cheeseburger was still bleeding yesterday. And the Cobb salad always tastes like it was prepared and refrigerated the day before. Very unfortunate. Service is OK. Not anywhere what one should expect from an old landmark and a Denver institution.

Excellent place for a quick bite with friends or guests from out of town. Convenient to the many downtown hotels. Food is reasonable and well-prepared. The service is excellent. I had the reuben sandwich with gluten-free bread and sweet potato fries. Nothing was greasy--everything was tasty and fresh. Great ambiance too.

In celebration of our 17 anniversary we scheduled massages at the Brown Palace and a late lunch at the Ships Tavern. The waitress was wonderful. The lunch not so much. We returned the Caesar salad with shrimp because the shrimp was raw. My burger was over done. The manager said if we wanted dessert she would comp it but by that time we weren't really interested in dessert. Burger, salad, 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine. $100 +. Meh..

I was treated to a birthday dinner by my son. We tried the historic Brown Palace Hotel and Spa for a rare treat. The service was excellent. We used the valet service which was very convenient. I ordered the prime rib which is the best I have ever tasted. After we mentioned it was my birthday, a free, large, beautiful chocolate cake with a candle was delivered to my table. It was soooo good.

Unfortunately, it wasn't anything special. It is pricey, $55 for 2 for lunch. Very loud place. And they do have model ships displayed. But there are far better places to dine in Denver, so put this one in the "Tried all the others, let's give it a shot" category.

The Ship Tavern never fails to please. This long Denver tradition is a winner when entertaining out-of-town guests. The food, the service, and rich character of the Brown Palace is something special for out-of-town friends and business associates. As a customer for more than 50 years I can't say enough about how special the prime rib is at the Ship Tavern. The price is very reasonable compared with the big name steakhouses. My dining experience Wednesday night was superb. Our waiter was old school, friendly, attentive and informative. We never felt rushed which enhanced a dinner with old family friends

Sunday evening dinner at the Ship's Tavern. Not up to the usual Brown Palace standards. Service was slow and disjointed (bread came five minutes before entrees, after waiting 20 minutes). Two sandwich entrees (croque monsieur) required steak knives to cut. I'd recommend to a friend, because I am hoping that my experience was just a fluke.

Ship Tavern was billed as having the best steak in Denver. My steak was above average, to be sure, but I might not say, "best." Our special occasion was seeing our son off to the Navy, hence "Ship Tavern." Our waiter was attentive and had a sense of humor I appreciated! My one comment to the restaurant would be to serve juicy steaks on a flat plate, instead of one the fork and knife slide into the middle of! We will return as our Navy son comes and goes throughout his career.

Yes, the advance indicator said that the Ship's Tavern was rated $$$. The bill for 4 was $140 for 4 salads and two drinks. It wasn't just the food that was expensive but a mixed drink was $32! Yes it is quiet and has history, but overall there are much better lunch spots in Denver.
