My husband booked a table at the Tavern for his 75th birthday. He then perused the online menu and selected his meal (mussels) However, when we arrived and read the in-house menu, it was quite different, with no mussels offered. This was a very disappointing and frustrating experience for my husband, who ordered fish and chips instead. You need to update your web site menu! However, the food was quite good, and our server (Ashleigh) was friendly and efficient. I very much enjoyed the Downtown Club sandwich and champagne. We have been going to the Ship Tavern for many years, and hope things improve.
It was my first time at the Ship Tavern, but it definitely will not be my last. It is a pricey location, but it was worth every penny. Everything was wonderful from the food to our amazing server. He was very friendly, personable and gave great service. I definitely recommend this place!
Kind of load
We had a really great time! The service was quick and attentive, the food was great and the live piano gave a fun atmosphere.
Extremely disappointed. Very expensive for poor quality and service. Food sat for a long time before being served. Food was poor quality. Had to repeat requests for service. French fries cooked in old grease. Lettuce was days old and watery. Meal not delivered as ordered. Service was slow we waited forever. Trust the Brown Palace will return to their high standards
They were amazing at being cautious of my date’s allergies and accommodated all of our needs amazing service, amazing food, and amazing atmosphere!
Server and food were fantastic with the exception of the Crab Cakes. They were completely over mixed or they are not using jumbo lump.
Not good. Left a Google review. Would not eat there again.
More than a sports bar. Less than fine dining. Good food, great service, medium priced. I’d go back.
The menu was limited, the dinner menu had more sandwich options than I would have liked. The signature prime rib advertized everywhere was not available. I went with the filet mignon and truffle fries, which was cooked perfectly. Service was quirky, I waited for a while, then everything happened at once, then I was ignored. I left as soon as I settled my bill. Ambience was good, food was good but not a destination dining experience.
The menu is very limited. Not the same place as it once was. It may be due to Covid19; but my wife and I were somewhat disappointed with the ‘new” experience.
Excellent dining experience
Super fun night, our type of experience, great service, great food, great piano player...we will be back for sure!!!
Delicious restaurant. The prime rib was superlative. Truly one of the best I’ve ever had. We ordered three desserts and all three of them were superlative.
Great service and attention to detail. Love the live music - terrific piano! We'll be back.
The Brown Palace never disappoints! The food, service, ambience is always excellent. I have been going there for many, many years and so very pleased some of the restaurants are open!
We had a pretty simple meal in the Ship's Tavern . One order of Easter Ham and one, a cobb salad. A couple drinks came to over $132.
In the value for the money column I think it is over-priced.
Ambiance was extraordinary so I guess you pay for that.
Cool old Denver Western style Hotel full of nostalgia.
But for the money, for what we had I think it costs too much .
Food was expensive and the quality was awful. Chicken was tough and not edible.
Wonderful service, food very good.
Very accommodating to our seating request. We arrived early had a drink at bar (great drink service at bar ! Host sat us early when seat became available.
Nice 45th wedding anniversary dinner!
Great ambiance and food/bevs
A little pricey, especially the cocktails, but the service was phenomenal and the experience was great!
Cozy atmosphere with lots of history! The charcuterie board was awesome, using vegetables instead of fruits. A great starter for the prime rib that we split!
We don’t believe that pets should be allowed in the restaurant. Just not sanitary.
Horrible experience. We wanted to like this place soo bad. As soon as we walked through the door we had one thing after another go wrong. First, the friends we were meeting were hassled by the hostess with a bad attitude over them not knowing the exact name we used for the reservation. They weren't sure if it was mine or my husbands. She was super sour and acted as though they were trying to steal a reservation or something? Even though they had explained we were running a few minutes behind and that it was either under myself or my husbands name (they provided both). After we arrived we got a taste of her bad attitude when she brought water to the table and rudely sat it down without acknowledging us what's so ever or even reply a simple "sure" or "you're welcome" to all of our thank yous. Fast forward, we're not that bothered over the hostess, it happens. We've heard the food and atmosphere are great and we're just ready to enjoy ourselves...unfortunately we were treated with poor service left and right. (Going to add that this was NOT a busy night. Plenty of empty tables) Bread wasn't even out til 30 minutes after we had ordered entrees and drinks. Food took forever. My husband ordered a double and was brought a single, yet still charged for the double. The chicken Marsala was so hard when I tried to cut into it, it went flying off my plate spilling sauce all over myself. A hockey puck. My friend who had ordered the salmon entree with a side Caesar was literally brought a Caesar salad with a dry cold piece of salmon thrown on top. When she asked the waitress she was basically told that is what she ordered and that's what she got. She finally grabbed the manager and asked her to make it right, which the manager did...we'll sort of. Fast forward OVER AN HOUR and my poor friend finally received her food. Shocking. The manager was not to be seen anywhere. Didn't come and apologize for the wait or the situation as a whole. Didn't check to make sure that things were...
We were in a couples' getaway, 8pm dinner reservations on a Saturday night
His $44 steak dinner came out with cold steak, cold baked potato, and a very small serving of vegetables.
My $32 chicken marsala, although a generous portion, was more on par with a $12 a plate restaurant for flavor and presentation.
Waitstaff was attentive with drinks, and quickly bring soup instead of remaking the steak. That too came out not very hot.
The piano player was nice for some ambiance while dining.
The food is amazing. A bit higher priced but delicious
Went for a late lunch on a Saturday, so downtown was too quiet...
Strange lack of activity in the restaurant, and then the hostess finally appeared, after we knocked on the kitchen door.
Wait person was ok, and the food good; not great or memorable.
While we went for the history and architecture, we will not return.
I hope they get their act together after the pandemic resolves.
Was disappointed that the menu had been reduced from that listed online. Chef did come up with an vegetarian dish that was not on the menu.
Very yummy food. I got the french onion soup and a burger and both were top notch. My husband got a steak and he was very happy. We celebrated our anniversary and had a yummy cake afterwards.
Great place, amazing scotch collection, tremendous service. Loved it and so did the kids.
Great place to be on a cold night. Had a real nice evening.
The Brown Palace is back! The Ship's Tavern was a great place to celebrate my sister's birthday. I had the chef's salad and my sister had the onion soup and the club sandwich. After I saw the onion soup, I ordered some for myself. Delish! The salad and the sandwich were both generous proportions. The waitstaff was wonderful and accommodated our requests. They helped us celebrate the birthday by providing a fabulous piece of cheese cake, candle and all. This is a wonderful spot to meet a friend, celebrate with family or just have outstanding food. Everything was 5 stars!
Very disappointed with the Ship Tavern. Sandwich was ok but my wife’s salmon was terrible. When we spend $100 we expect better quality. I don’t think we’ll be back.
Food was really good as always! We enjoyed the prime rib and the chicken Marsala! Service was decent, but the noise level is loud enough that the masks just make it hard to communicate with wait staff!
I was hoping for a nice experience at The Brown Palace. The Palace Arms is closed so we booked at The Ships Tavern. It was just so so. My risotto was good but cold. My husband's Ruben was a bit soggy, and the service was just ok. Pretty disappointed since we were only staying there one evening for my birthday.
We loved the live piano performance.
The food was great and Justin's service was impeccable.
Top notch service. The food and drinks was amazing as was the atmosphere. The live music was a plus. A bit pricey, but worth it (my opinion). Excellent all around.
Food is excellent
Don’t believe any menu you see prior to arrival. Extremely limited menu. Prices were very high. Food quality was poor. Service was really really bad... You’d think they would bring their A game on a Saturday night. I regretted choosing this spot for my birthday dinner.
Super food and service will for sure come back!
