My husband said it was the best rib eye of his life!! My trout was wonderful too.
When you go to the Brown Palace you expect great things. I know this is more of a casual spot in the Palace but this was Applebee’s level stuff. Server didn’t seem knowledgeable and was kind of awkward, maybe she was new? The food was bland and the drinks were just ok. $250.00 for two and it honestly ruined my night knowing I spent that much on food that was Applebee’s equivalent or worse. I love going to the Brown Palace, for its history and luxury, hopefully someone will revamp Ship Tavern and make what the the Palace deserves.
Love the atmosphere and not too crowded before the theatre. Service is superb and the oyster stew is amazing!!
As always we had a great dinner. The menu has sandwiches as well as prime rib, stake, and fish. Great drinks also.
The room is classic but the once great Ship Tavern has run aground as far as food, service and ambience go. It's a shame that Marriott has let this place turn into a shadow of its former self.
I’m glad we were able to try the Brown Palace however we made reservations a month and a half in advance and we arrived 30 minutes early at 6 and Res. Was for 6:30 and the greeters asked us to be off of our table by 7:15 because they were busy so each corse took a while to come and we were trying to rush so they could have table by 7:15 I don’t care how busy you are at any given time you should not ask customers to be gone by a certain time expecially at those prices! The cook after we were half way done told us not to worry!
We did an early dinner on Valentine's Day. The Ship's Tavern is a nice bar in a historic hotel.
The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good, but barely hot enough. Portion sizes were generous. For the prices and reputation of the hotel, the presentation of the food on the plate is fairly pedestrian. Good selection of wine and beer. Lots of menu options. The desert selections were tempting, but we were too full to partake.
Portions are very generous, lobster was delicious, fruits excellent, service was quick and courteous. The ambiance was very pleasant and relaxing.
We think of the Tavern as a very special place but we were disappointed with the food and the service. Hope it will step up for the future.
We ordered the quesadilla for our daughter asking for non-spicy cheese and no added ingredients, such as the jalapeños in the menu description. The quesadilla we received was exactly as the menu described, spicy with jalapeños. We asked again for just a plain non-spicy quesadilla as we originally ordered. We got a plain one...with spicy cheese. My daughter did not touch it after trying a small bite. $16 down the drain. And she left hungry :( We were staying at the Brown Palace and had no other dining options at this point since our plane was late arriving into Denver. Will order pizza delivery next time. Disappointing.
If not for the wonderful host, hostess and wait staff, this would be a total fail. The Brown management really needs to sit down and eat the food here. It's awful.
Salmon salad is always delectable!
Great place, fun atmosphere, good food, easy to find parking. Staff courteous, and attentive.
it was my birthday, they had the pianist play Happy Birthday, and brought the most delicious cake. I would like to thank them.
The Ship Tavern at the Brown Palace hotel is a good medium priced place to meet with friends with tasty food and good beer without breaking your budget. You can go low-end with tasty burgers (meat or buffalo), middle range with delicious fish 'n' chips (as we did) or high range with steak or buffalo steak. At 6:00 PM on a Saturday there was room, but it was crowded by 7:30 PM with a happy crowd of younger and older diners. And you get to walk around the historic Brown Palace hotel before and after your meal.
Had lunch with my daughter, waitress (Sarah) was fantastic, food was great.
Ship Tavern is a wonderful, historic location. A great mix of folks, great people watching. We find the food very good. Love the lobster roll. hamburger, fish chowder true comfort food.
Great customer service by Sarah. Great fish and chips!
worst Caesar salad in years and the new England clam chowder was like paste. Little in way of clams. The Brown's new England clam chowder used to be very good. Never again.
Fantastic collection of model sail ships lining the walls. Excellent food - you could cut the insanely delicious prime rib with a fork, and the burgers are exquisite! The live piano was a wonderful! Thank you for a fabulous anniversary dinner!
We enjoyed our meal at the Ship Tavern; however, there were some management/kitchen issues that need to be addressed. When we arrived, our table was not yet ready, which was fine, we got a drink at the bar and had a seat in the lobby. They came to get us when we were ready to be seated. Our server, Molly, was fantastic, but she was fighting a losing battle. First, apparently this hotel has one kitchen for four restaurants, and they were badly overwhelmed.
To be fair, we went during the stock show, so they were very busy, but this is a major event for the city and for the hotel, so they should have been prepared for this. As a result, food was ridiculously slow to come from the kitchen - we waited over an hour for our meals. Also, they sent up our meals before our appetizer, and when they did send our appetizer (mid-meal) it was very over-salted. The meals themselves were delicious - I loved the prime rib, and it was perfectly cooked. Finally, by the time we were finished eating, there were very few desserts left to order, as they'd sold out of most items. This is, again, a kitchen/management issue, because it's not as though the stock show is an unexpected event and more desserts than usual should have been planned/prepped.
Overall, we would definitely give them another try, but I would have very high expectations that we should not experience these issues again. Please note, while this restaurant is very nice and the food is good, the atmosphere is quite noisy and the tables in the center of the room are quite close together, which makes for a less-than-peaceful experience. If you're looking for a quiet table, this is not the restaurant for you.
Food took a while to get out, but our server was attentive and dinner was delicious.
Not worth the money or the hassle. I used to come here all the time but the last few times the service has been lackluster. This last visit was absolutely the worst. My partner and I were not drinking, but simply came in for a light dinner. When we declined the offer for a drink, you could tell the server was annoyed and the entire mood shifted. Not once was I asked how the food was, nor did I even get the courtesy of a hot water refill for my tea. It was absolutely the worst; the server made it abundantly clear he was annoyed to have us at his table. It wasn’t until I signed the bill that he asked me how was the burger that I ordered. Call me crazy, but typically that is something you ask when the person is in the middle of eating. Overall not a great experience, it will be a long time before I go back.
As always, a wonderful experience!
The prime rib is superb. A very festive atmosphere. Francisco always make sure everything is over the top!
Great service! Waitress so friendly. Consistent QUALITY FOOD. Love their burgers.
Fun waiters, very efficient - food divine! Visiting niece from East Coast impressed!
My first trip here and I was pleased with the food and with the service.
We had had a very enjoyable lunch in one of Denver's most historic hotel restaurants. It makes one "feel special", as my friend said. Great service!
We had a great time at the Ship Tavern. The food was great and our server Ian was so nice.
I do have to comment on the bathrooms in the Brown Palace right next to the Ship Tavern. They hadn’t been cleaned in days, trash spilling out of the bins, dirt rings around the sink and toilet, and the furniture all banged up. It really appears that no one cares. What is going on? I’ve been going to the Brown Palace my whole life and have never seen it in this state. There are rumors going around town that it is the “sinking ship”. Please don’t let that be true, figure it out!!
Food was amazing; service was perfect with the best and funniest server, Dennis.
Felt like being on a beautiful ship.
This was my second meal at The Ship's Tavern this season. The Iconic BROWN PALACE HOTEL and its atmospheric restaurants are "a must" for native Denverites like me each holiday season -- and TWO VISITS made my holiday. The first occasion was a family dinner with 8 diners who relish the atmosphere as much as I do. The second was a belated Christmas lunch with two of my closest friends who always want to go to the Brown Palace at least once each holiday. We had excellent service, wonderful food, and the historic ship models to admire. It was amazing that we unknowingly chose the night of the Debutante Ball for our first visit, and the Stock Show Parade marching by at the second. This is a bit of Denver history everyone should experience. It never fails to please. One feels like she is in "Another Time, Another Place" each time she enters the door and is greeted with cordiality and smiles by the top notch staff.
