I have always loved coming to the ship’s tavern but this last visit was simply terrible. The bao bun was inedible and the meat tasted like shoe leather and had to be sent back. One of our guests ordered chicken and half of it was raw.
We both had the Primb rib sandwich with no bread. It was excellent when it eventually came they took 30+ minutes. They gas us a discount due to the long delay. That was nice.
Food took a very long time to come out and though we had a reservation, the restaurant seemed unprepared for our arrival - and we were late. They had just rolled out a new menu so that might have contributed. Additionally, they were unwilling to make substitutions. A place of this caliber might need to review this policy.
They have amazing drinks. They are expensive at $16 each. Very tasty
The Tavern Cobb salad was low quality with minimal turkey and ham on it.
I had never been to this restaurant, nor the Hotel, unfortunately I wouldn’t say my experience was unforgettable but I also wouldn’t say it was bad.
The food was good, a slightly pricey and I felt that there could have been more toppings on my salad (I got the quinoa salad with Salmon).
The staff were very nice and our waiter was attentive and prompt.
Excellent food and service. Historic hotel across from Denver's oldest church, Trinity United Methodist. Our guests from out of state were really liked it.
We have been to the Ship Tavern many times, it is an annual special occasion. Service outstanding, Dean was very good server. However, after many visits, there was something different about the quality of the food. I had a Colorado Burger. In the past the burger was a half pound beef patty, this time it was two 1/4 patties stack on a day old dry bun. The beef was good but for 17.00 it did not meet expectation. Some one else in out group and had the Philly Steak and commented that it was not as good as the previous one. Our visit may just have been an exception. We will be back and try again... we did miss the bison burger option...
Food was very average. Expected a lot more from the brown palace.
This is a regular go-to for a nice lunch and impeccable service.
Great meal - portions were bigger than necessary, but the quality of food outstanding. We had a Ruben sandwich, a club sandwich and the seafood chowder, all excellent. Service was of a quality that is expected for a luxury property, it was obvious that the servers enjoyed their job, and that they understood how to deliver a great experience to the guest.
Our first time at this Denver institution didn't disappoint. The food was fantastic (no surprise). But beyond that, the service was absolutely first class. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, ready to answer any question or accommodate any request. We look forward to going back soon.
We have always enjoyed the Brown Palace and all of it's ambiances. Especially the restaurants. But, this visit to the Ships Tavern was not good. We started with an early lunch @ 11:30am. We were only the second table in the Tavern. The Food took forever (25 mins) and the service was terrible. It appeared that the kitchen was understaffed and the waiter help was overwhelmed with too many tables. The food was excellent as always, but I recommend to the management to get more and better service help for the Tavern or they will loose life long patrons like us.
Great place to celebrate, have lunch, or happy hour. Loved all the options with Prime Rib!
Disappointed in the quality of the food. Salads were ok, the meat on the cheese steak sandwich was tough and fatty and the cheese tasted like cheap velveeta. Ambiance was the only positive experience.
Incredibly poor service. Otherwise as great as always.
Love the atmosphere! I had a bit of a time crunch and told the host. The waiter was informed before he came to the table. The lunch came out in a very timely fashion The salad I ordered. The Wedge. Was delicious. In the end I had 10 min to spare! They went over and above to accommodate my tight schedule!
The Ship’s Tavern has gone way downhill. We’ve been going here for 20+ years and yesterday it wasn’t even busy. The French onion soup was cold. The potato chips were stale. No one waited on us for 42 mins. Then we ordered our food and it took 1 hr for it to come. It was Easter but we arrived at 1:30pm and the entire Ship’s Tavern was only 50% filled until we left at 3:55pm, yes, 3:55pm.
The Ship's Tavern at the Brown Palace is a long standing Denver tradition and history. It is a comfortable and elegant place where you can enjoy high quality food with attention given to every detail.
My son and I had a lovely Easter lunch. Thank you!
Love this spot! Great vibe, in the beautiful Brown Palace, and delicious food. Lobster salad and reuben are the strongest, burgers are excellent, and each salad is perfect. Ask for your fries well done, and get a cocktail!
Good setting for semi-business or social meeting, good silent ambiance for a pleasant conversation, food is moderately engaging which is also less of a distraction
All is good except the size of the wine pours we very small considering they charge $15 a glass.
A great time had by our table of five--Thank You. We will be back
This was an excellent experience; it was an anniversary for us and we were treated like royalty. First, the prime rib was the best I’ve had and there are very generous servings. A special dessert with greetings appeared as a complimentary plate. Wait staff were attentive and delightful. Absolutely recommend!
Unfortunately the food was poor, took over an hour to get. We did like the French onion soup!
Our server was excellent, lunch was delicious, all very enjoyable!! Thank you
Not the best value for your money, but what in Downtown Denver isn't over priced? Had a reservation, and arrived early. Decided to ask if they could take us early, and they did. Set in a front corner, by the piano. The place was busy, and quite noisy, as they were broadcasting "March Madness" games. Service was prompt, for drinks, and although food was a bit slower, it was timely considering the crowd. My burger was good, hot and there were plenty of hot, fries. My wife's prime rib, was good, but I'm sure not the "Best in Denver" as advertised. Check, and take home boxes arrived promptly. Seen it and experienced it. Next overnight in Denver, I will check out another establishment.
Haven't dined here in probably 10 years but good to come back for the nostalgia and a business lunch.
Always a fun place for an upscale casual lunch experience.
We have been going to Ship Tavern for over 60 years, celebrating special occasions or when the spirit moves us. We've always been delighted with the experience. This last time was no different...
The Ship Tavern seems to get high marks for business dinners, but I don’t recommend it. The food and service was good, and it’s a cute place, but incredibly noisy. We could barely hear each other and we had a small intimate table.
Way too noisy. Overpriced for what you get. Have had better food at a breakfast place: fish was greasy; prime rib was dry and stringy; soups were cold; Cobb salad was overdressed and made with iceberg lettuce (gave me indigestion until the next morning). Server Donnie was wonderful. Very attentive and friendly.
I always tell people this is my favorite restaurant in Denver when I travel to my office there. I'm boring and pretty much always get French onion soup and prime rib, because they do it so well. This time, they were off their game. I fear it might have been because I was dining alone on a Saturday night. I was put at a high top table over protest (I'm 5'3" and 60s with a bad back). Then it went downhill. 35 minutes for the soup to arrive, missing the usual thick browned cheese. The broth and onions were same as always but the cheese was sparse and not fully heated. It seemed to be topped with grated parmesan too. I asked the maitre d for their bread basket, which is always a highlight, as the waiter never brought it. Never did arrive. Prime rib was fine as always but I think had been waiting a bit while I finished the delayed soup. I didn't stick around for dessert.
We had such a lovely time here for a birthday celebration! The food was superb, as was the ambience!
Food is tremendous every single time. Waitstaff is attentive but not intrusive. I can’t recommend Ships Tavern highly enough.
This has been a favorite go to for over 30 years. Unfortunately under the Sheraton's ownership it's slipped quite drastically in a lot of ways. Cleanliness, menu's were dirty and crinkled, server's training lacked, hot food was warm at best, overall quality and value no longer impressive. Sadly the details aren't on point anymore.
We loved the food, the ambience and our waiter. He was a young guy and very attentive. We had a reservation for 7:00 pm for 6 of us. At approximately 8:10 we had just paid and were ready to leave. The hostess came over just as we got out checks back to sign and told us we would have to leave and that the next party was waiting for their table. It’s not like we were sitting there talking for hours. We have never been asked to leave before. I called the manager and she will talk to the hostess. We were very disappointed that happened especially since we were ready to leave anyway.
Thank for a beautiful evening celebrating our valentines
The food was fantastic, one of the best meals I've had in Denver, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The service wasn't the best- a little slow and the server was kind of rude, but overall it was a great night out.
