Ship Inn Seafood and Steak
Our original building was built in 1796 and has since carried a tradition of welcoming guests for a memorable dining experience.
We welcome private dining, bar patrons, as well as private events. We have separate dining rooms which are perfect for that special event such as a corporate luncheon, rehearsal dinner, etc. Our goal is to make your special event as memorable as possible.
We look forward to extending our hospitality and fine cuisine to you and your guests while you dine in one of Chester County's oldest and most historical buildings.

The table we were given was very good. It was next to a window with a nice view of the patio area. The waiter was prompt, he provided us with a very good dining experience and was very professional. The quality of the food did not disappoint. The appetizer of seared, bacon wrapped shrimp was very tasty. The main course was proportioned just right and the platters were expertly garnished. The mood in the dining room was very relaxing. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves for this Mother's day dinner outing.
Food was delicious, service was very slow from the time we walked in to dessert. I had to ask someone to seat us, then I had to ask for menus. Our server was mediocre at best. Didn't seem to be on his game.
Self seating with no menu until our server appeared. Good food consumed in a pleasant environment.
I think the ambiance varies depending on where you are seated. We usually end up in a large open room on the first floor that can be noisy. The smaller dining rooms are much quieter. The food is very good every time. I have been disappointed with the food at other local inns that have highbrow reputations and prices to match. The Ship Inn has never let me down.
I previously wrote, but didn't go through. Normally very good but Mothers day not good. Hot soup was very good. Main entry was barely Luke warm. Filet was cold and poached egg was hard boiled and cold as well. Will give it only 1 more try.
We went to the Ship Inn for a Mother's Day Brunch. While I understand that the restaurant is usually closed on Sundays until 3 pm and may have been short-staffed for this unusual event, both the seating and service took much longer than expected. At least ten minutes passed from the time we were seated until we were greeted by our server – who then disappeared for at least another five minutes before he came back and took our order. The drinks took between five and ten minutes to arrive. Then began the wait for our food, which did not, however, seem to take an inordinate / unreasonable amount of time to arrive. The food was great, though.
Terrible horrible Mother’s Day . Will never be back.
Mothers Day brunch was a failure. We were the second table seated and took forever for service. The waitress was scarce, one coffee refill and we had to go to the bar to refill the water. When received our food it was cold and without taste.
Came to Ships Inn with guests from Baltimore. They usually are very smug about Baltimore being known for their seafood, especially crabs. We all ordered different seood entrees, and they were very enthusiastic about the quality of our seafood dinners. All in all it was a successful evening. Our server, Matt, was great, too. Definitely would come back.
We waited over an hour for our meal AFTER our order was taken. I had brought multiple guests and all were very disappointed by that. I was pretty frustrated. Server was personable but sporadically attentive. I do not rate critically very often but I would advise against going there if you are in a hurry.
We love the Ship Inn. it is one of the few restaurants where you can have a conversation and not have to raise your voice so that the people at your table can hear you. the ambiance is very nice and the food is great
We had a great time . Food was great! Couple of us had the filet and one had the steak Diane and it was all so good, steak done to wellness requested. Dessert was incredible - I mean just insane! We will be back again for sure .
Out of town, visiting relatives and friends and couldn’t have selected a better, authentic colonial experience in the area. Food was delicious, service very good and setting wonderful.
Simply ok / waitress had to be reminded of a couple of items, strip steak - not even sure if it was a strip.
My wife’s sea bass had no flavor whatsoever.
Maybe a bad night but it left a sour taste in our mouth.
Table of six and had a reservation. When gave my name at the door they said I did not pick up my call but they would see if they could get me a table. That was the best part of this 2 1/2 hour brunch. The worst part was management seemed not concerned.
Easter brunch. Ordered eggs Benedict. Was mediocre. Eggs were overdone. Muffin was hard and stale. Very disappointed
Our lunch was excellent. We each enjoyed our entree and each of our desserts. Our waitress was very attentive in a very low-key sort of way. We wanted to talk and we were able to do that without feeling rushed. We will definitely dine there again.
THE FOOD AND SERVE IS VERY GOOD BUT AN UPDATE THE BUILDING WOULD HELP.
wE HAVE BEEN COMING HEAR FOR BETTER THAN 8 YEARS BUT IT IS THE SAME SURROUNDINGS,
Amazing food and service. The crab cakes were to die for and the roasted Atlantic salmon was 5 stars. You can’t forget the amazing dessert I was super pleased with everything. 💙
My husband's steak was not hot and he sent it back. It was still only warm when they returned it.
The restaurant was not very busy when we were there but our waiting time, particularly for the bill took much too much time. I had to leave the table to get our wait person.
Make this as short af possible. I proposed to my now future wife and Ship Inn could not have been more accommodating in the experience. They did an amazing job setting the mood and we enjoyed every moment that we had there. The waitress was great and the manager was just as accommodating. I can't recommend this place more! Little pricey, but worth every penny! 5 stars!
Good variety of menu choices and special specials, wait staff well informed about details of menu and food preparation; a very nice evening; we look forward to returning.
The Ship Inn never disappoints! From the specialty cocktails (Irish Mules for St. Patrick’s Day) and excellent wines by the glass to Richard’s chocolate lava cake for dessert, the chef and staff made our occasion all the more special.
Lovely but noisy
This place seems like it’s on its last legs. Saturday night and at one point we were the only ones in the main dining room. Service was slow and terrible (we had to ask for water). Steak was terribly undercooked and half of it was so fatty it was inedible. Used to be a local gem but Won’t be back.
We’ve eaten here many times over the years. Tonight we had slow service, lukewarm meals and were charged $2.75 for each club soda....not eager to return....
The special Polynesian Pork was absolutely scrumptious. Everything tasted fresh and was well prepared. Our server Janet was fun and top notch class. We'll be back.
Decent property but for a restaurant that is aiming for fine dining it noticeably lacks in service, food quality, and wine list.
One positive side note, the host who seated us was great. He had a warm and inviting personality, was well dressed, and set a comfortable table.
The atmosphere has elegant potential but the dining areas are quartered off and mismatching. The room we were seated in could only accommodate three parties. This meant either: our table was the only group speaking and our conversation filled the room or the conversation at the other table distractingly echoed to our table.
The waitress may have been sufficient for most restaurants, but again, when the establishment is aiming for fine dining and charges a price to match; her monotone disinterest was obvious and didn’t make us feel welcome.
As for the food, there are other restaurants in the area you can order blackened sea bass and have it prepared with skill. Somehow it was almost bland despite the potent creole seasoning that wasn’t so much blackened as it was simply applied and heated. To compliment it were some thawed and heated vegetables with unseasoned rice.
Lastly I’ll mention the wine list which was dominated by labels you’d find in a convenience mart cold case. That wouldn’t bother me if they didn’t also demand 4x the retail price for a bottle.
To summarize, this could be a gem but it’s going to need a lot more polishing.
Always impressed by the menu choices. As usual, we all had seafood; two had lumpmeat Crab cakes; Very little 'filler'.....they were delicious. The fresh cobbler dessert was a special treat.
Enjoyed the fire in the fireplace on a chilly night.
It's a pleasure to recommend Ship Inn to others.
I ordered sea bass but I swear it was Salmon! Did not taste like sea bass at all. Otherwise good experience
The fish as the main course was delivered to table significantly burnt. When I brought this to the waitresses's attention she took this to management. However, there was no redress and no apology. Significantly disappointing!
This was a very poor experience and I will not use the Ship Inn again.
Service was sub par at best, food was cold, and when we didn’t leave a 20 percent tip we were QUESTIONED! The waiter actually summoned my husband to the lobby to discuss the tip, and we had left 15%, this is absolutely unacceptable!! I will not be returning! I’m appalled.
Mushroom bisque was unbelievable. Surf and Turf - lobster tail was great but the the steak was one of the of the most delicious and juiceous pieces of meat I have had. Service was outstanding
Food was delicious, although we wish it would have been a little less expensive. Would visit this restaurant more often if it weren't for the prices.
It was a special occasion and we'd been to the Ship Inn before so we asked for the room with the fireplace that we dined in last year and were quickly accommodated. From the time we sat down to the end of our meal, the waitress was attentive. The oysters were outstanding, as was the roasted beet salad, and our entrees were cooked to perfection. We love this place and highly recommend it!
food and atmosphere always good. We have eaten there many times
I revisited the inn after many years. I was surprised by the interesting and varied menu. Mushroom soup was out of the park delicious. Enjoyed lump crab meat on the appetizer flatbread with artichokes. I will recommed the inn to ladies who lunch.
Food was delicious and cooked to perfection! Our waitress Carrie was excellent! Very attentive and professional! We will definitely return!
