We sat in the bar for a drink before dinner and I thought the bartender was rude to me.
We had a very nice waitress for dinner but the food was disappointing. I got the corn beef & cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day and it wasn’t very good. My husband did enjoy his lamb stew and the salads were good.
Food consistently high quality and at a reasonable price point. Service s bit below quality of the food - but perfectly acceptable. Will go again. Good for dinner conversation in a larger group.
Excellent seafood. Service was very slow. 20 minutes until we received water or asked for drink order. Nice ambiance great clams and seafood salad. Will definitely return!
cant believe I have been driving past this gem for a few years now. I will definitely be going back soon.
Service was excellent. Food was good but the portions were way too small. I left feeling hungry. Brussel Sprouts are not a good choice for veggie of the day. How many people really eat Brussel Sprouts?
Historically have enjoyed it here, but in the last two years food quality and portion have suffered. Shrimp and Crab meat special was very good, but the calamari was pizza shop quality and the sea bass was like a small filet-o-fish from McDonald's. Service was very good, no complaints. Its a shame, we love the historical ambiance but won't be back.
Great food, great service. I had the rack of lamb which was cooked just like I like it, medium rare. It had a very tasty sauce.
We had a great time here! My mom loved her steak filet, it was cooked perfectly. I had the crab cake and it was the best I’ve ever had! The desserts were amazing too! The restaurant is very nice and cozy especially while sitting by the fireplace. Our waitress, Carrie, was very attentive, gave perfect recommendations on everything from appetizers to entrees to desserts (she was right on everything we ordered being really good) and she was very nice. I can’t wait to go again!!!
The rooms are lovely and it's great to be seated near one of the many fireplaces on a chilly day! The menu is limited but the food is good quality. The waiter totally messed up one of the orders (brought a steak filet instead of salmon) and although he made a small attempt at an apology I would have thought the restaurant would have done something more. (The diner accepted the filet because he didn't want to keep everyone else waiting while the kitchen corrected the order; the waiter just accepted that and never mentioned it again.) I did indicate on the Open Table reservation that the occasion was a birthday but there was nothing special offered or done by the restaurant towards that (a complimentary dessert might have been nice).
Bar atmosphere was great, then into dining room it was quiet and very warm with the fireplace.
Hostess and waitress were great.
Nice restaurant in converted older home, the room we were seated in had a nice fireplace, a cozy touch. Steak and Salmon were our entree choices this evening, both selections were well prepared, good flavors, and generous portion sizes. Nice wine list to complement our meal choices. Server knew menu well, easily fielding our inquiries, was attentive without hovering. Overall, an enjoyable evening.
The service was quite slow for how empty the place was. The calamari starter was really good, but the burgers were very ordinary. Would go back if it was the only option - found it quite pricey
My Salmon with brie dill sauce and jasmine rice was the best salmon I've had dining out.
Atmosphere was nice and cozy, felt the great vibe in the room from the robust crowd of people in the place. everyone was happy with their meals and service. Colleen stopped by the table to check in on us and we also booked a party with her for springtime. Looking forward to returning.
We've been regulars for 7 years and have never been disappointed.
The service is professional and attentive and the creative cusine is beyond words.
Anything with seafood is a must!
I've read a few negative reviews on line of late, but noticed they were all guests on New Year's Eve !!!
The Ship Inn is the kind of restaurant serious Open Table diners flock to and rest assured they will enjoy a quality dining experience.
Thank you Michael, Gertie and Colleen.
The prices were too high and did not match the quality of the service and food. We ordered a $38 bottle of wine and the sweet waitress spilled as she was pouring our glasses. While very friendly, the service did not match the prices.
Beautiful building and decore...too bad the food was not as pleasant. Food was cold and over cooked. Bree cheese was delicious but was served with 4 townhouse crackers - very odd pairing and certainly not enough crackers for the amount of cheese served. Desert had a good flavor but, again, was cold. Service was not great either. Very disappointed.
My first time at the Ship In was New Year's Eve December 2017. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and Richard's chocolate cake was great. Service was friendly too. I will definitely return.
Great customer service experience. Had the Seafood Platter dinner feature. It was outstanding.
Cozy atmosphere. Table by the fireplace was inviting.
Staff was friendly.
We were not thrilled with our recent dining experience. We went to The Ship Inn for NYE as a special night out. I made the reservation a month in advance thanks to their effective promotional emails. We were sat in a booth area of the restaurant that had bright lighting, loud top 100 hit music and was reminiscent of a diner. The experience was night and day to our experience the NYE prior. When asked if we could move to the dining room that is dimly-lit, cozy and romantic, we were told there wasn't space, perhaps the empty table over there was already ear marked? We did eventually ask for the music to be turned down, it was blaring and did not fit the restaurant. All would have been okay if it wasn't for our warm champagne, luke-warm soup and forgotten oyster order. We were told the manager would be by to apologize for this (not prompted by us), but no one ever came by. Maybe this all would have been okay if more reasonable food options were served, but for a $200 bill, I hoped for a bit more and was sorely disappointed. I recommend the restaurant dim the lights in the booth area, turn on some jazz and chill the bubbly...if you want repeat customers.
I've enjoyed eating at the Ship Inn many times. The wait staff has always been friendly and courteous. The food has always been great.
We met our best friends there for New Year's Eve dinner. We had beef and our friends had seafood. All 4 dinners were prepared to our requests and were delicious. Our friends live in the area but didn't know it was there. They will be back. We've never left. Recommend to anyone for any occasion.
Very nice decor- prices were good. Food wonderful. Having great difficulty getting my 100 points credit!!! Manager allegedly named Colleen has dissed me twice!
Everything was wonderful, from the beautiful and cozy dining room, to the friendly and attentive staff, to the delicious food. I will certainly be back and will also recommend it to others.
Christmas Eve dinner. Food was lukewarm. Limited menu. Service felt rushed and the restaurant was not that busy
There are no curtains or shades in the front windows, so we had to move from our table because the sun was too intense. So we were seated in a smaller room which had fireplace and it was cozy. However, it was also dirty on the walls/ceilings because of the gas fireplace. Service was OK-- only a few people to wait on the entire restaurant. It wasn't that busy when we arrived but it was getting busier throughout our meal. 3 of us ordered filet and the way we requested it cooked was not 100% accurately recorded, so we changed plates in order to not have to send food back. One person ordered the filet tips which were full of gristle and way overdone. The spaetzle that came with the tips were hard and completely inedible as well. We did tell Jack, our waiter and he apologized and said he would let the chef know. He also didn't charge us for that meal. I had the filet, cooked medium, and it was delicious with the salad wedge and blue cheese dressing.
Had not been there in 20 years. Was a favorite for get togethers and family dinners. The Sunday nite dinner menu was perfect for a dinner after Thanksgiving.Limited selection but all parties enjoyed their selection. Will go again!.
Our dinner was a birthday celebration and we wanted a special place to have it. We could not have been more pleased with every aspect of the meal. We will definitely go again!
We enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. The food was good. The service was wonderful. It was an all around enjoyable experience!
The food for Thanksgiving was bland gravy tasted like wallpaper paste nothing nice to say about this meal
We went for Thanksgiving. The service was excellent but we were seated in a room entirely by ourselves with a view of the bar which we found disappointing for the holiday.
The main course of turkey with trimmings was tasty with excellent sides but we had only small pieces of turkey as if we got what was left on the bird.
I would pass on the baked Brie app which was served with stale saltines and some Ritz crackers.
A mixed bag but I would give this local favorite another try; appreciate the staff working hard to make a pleasant holiday for others.
The meal was superb, the martini perfection. The ambiance is historic with panache. Wonderful service as well. I’m a devoted customer.
Server was less than acceptable. He refilled my water glass 2 times. Each time he grabbed the glass by the rim (rather than the bottom), took the glass to wherever to be refilled, and returned with the same straw and lemon each time. Was this the only glass, straw, and lemon wedge in the restaurant? Server asked me how my meal was. I told him it was very good, except for the mussels. There were mussell shells, but very little inside the shell. I guess he never had a diner say they were disappointed. He said nothing, no apology, etc. Then he walked away and never asked my wife what she thought of her meal (which she had no complaints). We used your reservation system for a special occassion, a birthday celebration Server never asked whose birthday it was and wished that person well. We were one of three couples in the restaurant. Why the server would disappear for long periods of time was not acceptable. Perhaps the fact that we were one of 3 couples in the restaurnat says it all.
The food here is excellent. We have had the Steak Diane many times, it is very tender with a sauce to die for. I tried the strip steak with a brie, sauteed onions and red wine sauce and was wary of the combo. but it worked very well. Our friends had the shrimp francaise and the crabcakes, both excellent. The veggies are not neglected, our friend had the sauteed spinach, and their potatoes and mixed veggies are very flavorful
The only downside was the service, due to understaffing. The bartender was away, which is not uncommon, so the servers fill in. Then everyone has to scramble. The owner should not try to cut corners with this, it is taking away from the otherwise good service. And you feel neglected at the bar.
That said, the food alone would have us return, and the ambiance is great.
Had a wonderful dinner with our 93 yr old father & his children. Food was delicious & the service was wonderful.
This was our first visit and likely our last visit. We arrived on a Sunday evening with a reservation and took two seats at the bar. The restaurant had a stale musty odor and was very humid. The decor of the place is dated and a little tacky. It jneeds refreshing.
It appears the restaurant doesn't employ a bartender on Sunday nights or at least didn't have one that night. As a result we had the curious experience of being the only ones at the bar with virtually no service. There were only about a dozen people in the entire place but nonetheless it took nearly a half hour to get a Caprese Salad. I sat nearly that same time with an empty drink and then we waited another half hour for a wrap and some ravioli. The ravioli was lukewarm at best and didn't come with bread, grated cheese, salt, pepper or anything. I didn't see the waiter again after he dropped the food for fifteen minutes and simple gave up and ate my dish.
The staff seemed oblivious to how long we are waiting for food and how little attention we received. While it is possible they were having issues in the kitchen or were under-staffed there was no appearance of that (three people on the floor with only twelve people in attendance) and there was no explanation in that regard. It simply seemed like the staff slowed down to a crawl on a slow night
The paella was really oily from the chorizo in the dish. This made the rice too heavy also.
If you're a seafood lover, the Ship Inn is great.
I love their signature Ship Inn Seafood Salad with large Scallops, Shrimp and Crabmeat atop a bed of Baby Spinach.
Another winner is their Mussels in Beer with Sausage.
Always our "go to" place when we want great food and great service in an historic setting.
This is our go to place for a weekly date night.. Great home made dinner rolls and excellent food and dessert.
The food was good. The service was great. Charissa took good care of us.
Everything about this restaurant is top notch. It is a beautiful, quaint restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the company of the people you're with. We were looking for a place where we could talk to our friends without screaming to each other above the noise that we usually find when going out to eat. The food was amazing. The wait staff was professional and attentive without being obnoxious. We highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
