About Shiok Singapore Kitchen

Shiok! Singapore Kitchen offers a selection of authentic Singaporean food in a casual and friendly environment. We hope you will enjoy our home-cooked flavors and find it a Shiok experience too.

Singapore is a multi-ethnic society made up of Chinese, Malay, and Indian, whose immigrant forefathers brought with them rich food traditions from across Asia.

Typical Singaporean food is thus an exciting blend of culinary heritage based on some of Asia's greatest cuisine. This combination creates a unique and dynamic flavor more lively and far richer than the traditions from which they stem.

The food had a stink to it and was not flavorful. We spent our Saturday night with an expectation to enjoy Singaporean cuisine but were highly disappointed. The food seemed stale and we were more than happy to leave our leftovers behind.

Very friendly, helpful staff gave great recommendations on amount of food for our party. Desserts were excellent as well. Quiet place even with lots of customers, which is nice when dining with my parents who are a bit sensitive to noise.

Our favorite restaurant to go to with friends and family. Dennis , the chef / owner is the nicest person and takes good care of all the customers.
The food is authentic and delicious.
I love the vegetarian options. The roti is the best, probably even better than in Singapore.

ingredients were less than fresh, eggplant was undercooked, chili crab was precooked and dry. upside: service was polite and accomodating.

I made a reservation in good faith that the place would be open on a Sunday evening.
Opentable allowed it to happen, but when we got there, the place was closed!
Not pleasant.. luckily there were many restaurants nearby to choose from..
Message to opentable - got to do a better job of connecting with your restaurants for updates! Even a google search (which I did not do) says they are closed on Sunday..

Wonderful, hidden gem. Real value with great food, strong drinks, and lower than usual prices. I lived in Singapore for four years, and this place is very authentic...it can't get any better. +++ ample parking. Reservations recommended. Noise levels are pretty low, so perfect for a romantic evening.

Disappointing. Everything about the food and service was very low energy. Menlo Park is so quiet this restaurant needs to step up it's game to survive. I really enjoy Singaporean food and this place was by far the worst I've ever had. We ordered 4 dishes and everything was just okay. I will not be back again.

We loved our dinner at Shiok. Every plate we ordered was delicious. My husband and I split one of the Prix Fixe menus, which was fabulous -- and an amazing deal (only $59/couple including a glass of sangria for each of us). We had enough food to take home leftovers. Our kids also each ordered a dish and loved their choices. Wonderful to eat family style so that we all tasted a variety of foods. I especially loved the chicken satay and the noodle dish.

Our first discovery of a Singaporean restaurant in the Bay Area! definitely worth it.
Tried the chili prawns and roti paratha .. they were both excellent (the chili sauce was pretty authentic, imo as good as Jumbo Seafood in Clarke Quay). will definitely go back to try the chili crab!
Wine selection seemed limited but the chocolate wontons were excellent!
The host/owner did come over to check on us on the way out. Seemed pretty friendly.

Restaurant was cold and food was served on ice cold plates. Consequently the food, although served warm enough, was cooled very quickly. This is one of my pet peeves. I also felt the food was either not spiced or seasoned enough. Wait staff was helpful and pleasant and menu is extensive and interesting.

Great food and friendly for kids and family meals. Reminded us of some Malaysian cuisine that we loved - although with Singaporean style cooking almost the same. The biggest thing is that its kid friendly so no one is giving us that odd look when our little one was fussy. We sat in the back so we had some privacy.

We brought three friends who had not dined here before. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner of Roti, Satay skewers, Sambal string beans, Sayor Lodeh, Beef Rendang, Coconut Prawns, and Claypot Rice. If you like lychee, I highly recommend the lychee drink (non-alcoholic). The ambiance is great, staff is friendly, and service is attentive. A very reasonable bill for 6 of us. Thank you!

Went there for our anniversary and had some outstanding and unusual dishes like ribs marinaded in coffee. The only thing that didn't stand out was their fried banana w/ice cream. The bananas weren't hot at all--should've been really hot & sweet & cooked...which was a let down from the wonderful meal.

The restaurant has a very cheap setup - you have to walk all the way through the kitchen to get to the bathrooms; there are cups pre-filled with water sitting in the kitchen, fully exposed. $7 gave us 2 chicken satay skewers, and the rest of the dishes were all tiny for the big sticker price. We paid over $90 for something we expected to pay $70 max. Food tasted good, but just not worth it.

The choices were good for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The meal of the day, for two, was more than enough. The nan was delicious as was the chicken satay. We also enjoyed the fried tofu. Our beef dish was devoured by our growing teenager who also loved the chicken and rice and another meat dish.

There was something for everyone, me, my husband, teenage son and pre-teen daughter. We'll definitely be back. We wish we had discovered the restaurant a long time ago. It's been there 12 years. I would advise more advertising!

Having lived in the region (grew up there) I can spot a place that is not too authentic. Also I travel to the regions several times a year so my taste buds are calibrated pretty well. I would say of the dishes I had during my visit to Shiok, the Roti Canai (Prata on the menu) was extremely authentic. Nice and think and has the layers you look for in the Roti Canai. Most places are thin and crispy but you will not find that in Malaysia/Singapore. The Char Kuey Teow was also very nice. Give this place a try and you won't go wrong.

On a quite street, off the "main" downtown street; quiet, unassuming decor; can be a bit noisy, especially for those of us who'd prefer a bit of peace and quiet after a long "noisy" day! Authentic food makes up for that, as well as smiling, friendly staff. Already told local friends as well as non-local friends to try it on their next visit!

This is where you go to in the Bay Area for the most authentic Singaporean fare. Shiok! is run by a true blue Singaporean and like every Singaporean, food is in our blood. We talk about food before we eat, when we eat and after we eat. We talk about the next meal while we are eating the current meal.

Must try are Laksa, Oyster Omelet, Chicken Rice, Char Kway Teow, Sambal Kang Kong/Okra, Hokkien Prawn Noodles and leave space for dessert. Goreng Pisang and Pulot Hitam are the stars of the dessert menu.

Make a reservation as it gets crowded.

We've been coming here since it opened with family or a GNO. It never disappoints, service is fast, food comes out quick and delicious and a special lunch treat for my then HS kids, now a must during the summer when they're back home. So happy this restaurant is still striving for them but more so, our palettes.

Was a bit disappointed in the food. It wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting for Singaporean food. Had the Coffee Braised Spareribs which were good but the broccoli was just steamed and placed on the plate, absolutely no seasoning. Singapore noodles were also just okay. My husband had the chili shrimp and they were good but overcooked. I probably would not make the effort to drive all the way to this restaurant again.

I tried it for the first time after reading so many raving reviews. Was not that impressed. Overall food dishes are good, people are nice and all. But the prices are steep and portions are very small and great number of dishes are fried food with small plates than a decent meal for family style dining.

Not sure I would go back.

The best samosas! Brought to the table piping hot. We always plan to try other items, but usually get the chili prawns, which are fabulously seasoned. Their Pinot Noir wine by the glass is always good paired with the prawns!

No one in our group of seven had been to a Singaporean restuarant. The server was extremely helpful in guiding us to a delicious collecion of appetizers and small plates to start. Next she helped us pick two entrees and a rice dish and a noodle dish. We devoured it all and especially enjoyed the shrimp dishes and the beef entree. Two members of our group ordered desserts, which were enormous enough to share. The wine list is brief, but the choices are good.

It's easy to miss this restaurant as it doesn't stand out, but the food surely does. We had the Prix Fixe menu for 2 and this came with 2 appetizers (Roti and chicken satay). Both were delicious as were the Garlic duck noodles and the Sea Bass. Probably not enough food for large eaters, but it was perfect for us. This even came with 2 glasses of sangria, but they let us substitute it for whatever drink we preferred which included wine, ice tea, etc...The dessert was black glutinous rice which was very good, not too sweet. Since we had 3 in our party we also ordered the Singapore Clay Pot which was also tasty, but it was a bit on the dry side. WE will definately return.

The food is consistently delicious at Shiok; service is attentive but not overbearing. the Prix-fix meal for two is worthy of consideration; there are two choices and on the night of my visit, the server was wiling to trade items from one menu with the other. Will definitely return!
