Shinto Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge - Naperville Ratings and Reviews
Overall the food and service was good, the server was attentive and our food came without delay. However when we looked at the dessert menu, it was dirty and sticky, it made me wonder if the kitchen was just as dirty. When I informed the server, I was told " I think someone was cleaning them today!" wow those things should be cleaned on a daily basis. I went right to the restroom to wash my hands. Very disappointed, I don't know if I will be back.
The food and the ambiance at Shinto have always been great. However, we went there last Sunday and were disappointed with the service. Shinto was very understaffed in the sushi lounge. We would see our waiter every 20 minutes or so and have to wait even longer for our food and drink orders. Our waiter was friendly, but he was very brief with us. We were celebrating my birthday and my wife had to tell our waiter three times that it was my birthday. He just said that the kitchen was backed up. My wife had to apologize to me about the long wait on my surprise birthday treat as we were both looking to leave by the time it finally arrived. Shinto has had a good track record, but last Sunday was poor.
Wonderful place, I was greeted by wonderful hosts and had a great server who made sure we were okay during our whole dinner. The chef was wonderful and fun yet professional in his craft. The dining experience was top entertainment, nothing like good food and a show! It was amazing that one restaurant can perfect good cooking and good rolls of sushi, both were amazing options to take and left a party in your mouth.
We went for the Naperville Restaurant Week nenu. The food was abundant, very good, almost too much (it WAS too much for my wife), and a good bargain (were it not for Restaurant Week, the ssme food would have cost quite a bit more). The service and "entertainment" were also top notch.
Our family has found our new favorite Japanese Steakhouse! We are a family of five with a son in a wheelchair, and they were very accommodating to us. From our wonderful and lively Chef named Juan, to our fantastic waitress, Alissa, who specifically brought out little things that she thought might be helpful to our son with special needs (a glass of ice for the very hot soup and a couple of different spoons to make it easier to feed him). We also appreciated the friendly greeting from the General Manager, Brandon. He was very pleased we had such a wonderful dining experience. Excellent food, terrific service and nice atmosphere at Shinto's of Naperville!
The food was terrific and cooked to perfection. We liked the hibachi chef a lot. Otherwise the service wasn’t great. We had to remind our server more than once to bring chopstick helpers for the kids. She wasn’t friendly, just meh. The hibachi chef was just the opposite. My martini was warm, not chilled, and no sugar rim on a lemon drop? I didn’t send it back but it wasn’t great. I think the servers need more training and more personality.
Typically the sushi is good and I come here all the time. Just wasn’t good sushi this evening for whatever reason. Always get the Rainbow roll which was small and not get good and the filet roll wasn’t good and was falling a part. Don’t typically complain, but you asked.
My husband and I came here for a New Years Day early dinner. We had heard wonderful things about the sushi. The Monday half off specialty rolls is an amazing deal, can't beat it! And on top of that, it was happy hour. The food was amazing and the place was really nice. The only thing to make it better would have been better service. The bar wasn't that busy but the bartender wasn't attentive at all. We wanted to order spicy mayo to eat with our rolls but she never came back and we didn't want the rolls to get cold, so we just ate them. She finally came back at the end.
Always looking for a good Hibachi meal, and Shinto lived up to their expectations. Chef was friendly and entertaining, everything was cooked just right, portion was very good. I would recommend. I do understand the best value here is to go on Tuesday when they have the $12.00 Hibachi special, but reservations are required. If you like Hibachi dining, then Shinto is the go to place.
Unfortunately, in spite of having a 6:30 p.m. reservation for 6, we weren't seated until 7:15 p.m. because they had to push two tables together and the two women at one of the tables needed decided to "linger" L-O-N-G past the end of their meal (while we waited and waited...) The staff was very apologetic but despite their best efforts to encourage the women to leave, the women wouldn't budge. By the time we ordered and were served, it was past 8:00 p.m. They did give a a discount with their apology, but the delay messed up our schedule for the rest of the evening. Also, we were seated by the windows, which was VERY chilly due to the outside temp being -2. Those of us with our backs to the windows wore our coats during dinner. Brrr...! All of the said, the staff was polite and professional, and the food was good (as it should be for the prices they charge).
Food and service very good.
The only negative is when seated at Hibachi table you run the risk of sitting with others that use their outside voices inside. Too much over the top talk and laughing. Habe a good time but respect others in your surroundings. It may be too much to ask for.
Had an appointment at 9 p.m. Had to go back up to the check in at 9:20 to see what's going on. Didn't sit us till 9:30. The waiter had no idea what he was doing. Constantly forgot things people ask for and did not even ask one half of the table if they wanted appetizers i I asked for a lemon wedge three times and still never got it. Chef didn't get out till about 10 after 10. Been here plenty of times before and this was by far the worst experience ever being there.
We were very excited to go to this place for a special occasion for my daughters. We had made reservations only to have to wait an additional 45min. After our reservation time due to a miscommunication at the front desk. It was an unpleasant experience due to the lapse in time. Very sad it didn’t work out. Our bill however still was well over $300.00. Maybe if the attention was delivered we would return. Thank you!
Overall the experience was “fine”. Nothing spectacular or better than other habachi restaurants. My favorite habachi restaurant has amazing, cravable, teriyaki sauce - this place doesn’t even come close, so I won’t be going back. Also, I feel they could use an update on their ambiance/decor.
Because it was so busy, Shinto was extremely noisy. Because there were only 5 of us, we had to share our table with 3 noisy young women. We ordered appetizers, but we were rushed through because the other party didn't want them, so the soup and salad came quickly. The cook did a very good job, and the food was delicious.
