Shinto Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge - Naperville Ratings and Reviews
There are quite a few local sushi restaurants, but we travel a little further to enjoy Shinto. A very nice modern ambiance, some very innovative sushi selections, and some very good daily specials combine to make this a regular stop for us.
Your evening at Shinto will go much smoother with a reservation as walk up wait times can get pretty lengthy, especially for the Monday sushi special.
Came here for a friends night out and Shinto did not disappoint! We arrived early and hung out at the bar. The bartender Joe was phenomenal! Very friendly and knowledgable when asking for recommendations. When we moved to our table, our server Adrian was fantastic. He joked around with us - which with me is a necessity - and was super accommodating. My two friends and I are all in the restaurant industry so it can be difficult to impress us while dining. Both Joe and Adrian far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning! :)
We eat here often. Reservations honored on time. Friendly staff. Food always good. Must try the specialty roll of the week always a great value. However this time our service was terrible. Our waiter took our order, then disappeared??? We needed to flag down just about anyone to get a simple refill. Other tables didn't have our problems. Truly disappointing! Ordered dessert, which never showed up. Our waiter eventually wound up bringing the check. He said the kitchen was backed up. Really...what poor excuse
Monday night 1/2 price sushi. Even though we had a reservation, it was crowded and we expected more of a wait. But the staff got us seated within 5 minutes of our time and that was fine. 1/2 price only applied to the standard rolls of which there are plenty to choose from and the nice thing now is they can substitute soy paper for the seaweed (which I find bitter). The Chicago roll, Lobster roll are my favorites. But, dragon roll and others with eel sauce are also good. Service can be a bit choppy simply because of the crowd, so order a few plates up front rather than pace them out.
Nicely done meal. Way to load to have conversation with anyone at table, but that is the nature of the setup. Ambiance would have improved if they closed the drapes , spent meal looking out a a parking lot and if kind of took away from the authentic decor. Chef was very engaging, meal was cooked as requested, swerved attentive.
The service was good, but the food not so much. My fried rice had pieces of hard rice. The food was okay, but not necessarily good. I had swordfish hibachi style. Husband had a combo. My daughter loved her udonnoodles. This place is overrated and too expensive for the quality of the food. I am glad that I had a Groupon discount. The experience was nice, but I would not go again.
We went in for the Tuesday special and the portions have gotten so small. I've been her before for the special and the portions sizes weren't reduced at the time but now they are literally half what they usually are. I would not be going back to Shinto. Even the special martinis tasted different.
Gustavo was a great chef I had the steak and chicken the steak was medium rare incredibly juicy and tender not chewy or tough perfect and the chicken was amazing along with the shrimp flambé if you are a fan of shrimp chicken and steak I recommend ordering the trio
I've been going to SHinto for years and I love it. A friend suggested SHinto for hibachi. We went and we were all sweating the entire meal. Several people at our table and others were asking about the A/C with no response. It was unbelievably uncomfortable. I'll be back - but bot until winter - when the A/C wont be a factor.
Shinto turned out to be better than expected. It is a very noisy place, made noisier by the very loud, vigorous Happy Birthday singing by the collective servers. The hibachi chefs are most enthusiastic and fun loving; they chat up the guests and show off. It is not a place for quiet conversation. The hibachi tables are set for eight people; two of us were seated with five others all celebrating a birthday. One of us had been to Shinto before and was wildly enthusiastic about the food and the experience. She thoroughly enjoyed it once more, ordering the hibachi steak and flaming shrimp dinner. That dinner comes with rice, soup, and a salad. The rice can be shifted from plain white to fried rice with chicken for $3 more. It is pretty good. The soup was remarkably tasty, actually, and quite comforting. The salad had a sweet ginger dressing. And the amount of food prepared for this hibachi dinner was a lot, quite a lot. Surely most people take some of it home. The other of us chose to eat an appetizer portion of shrimp tempura: it was delightful! The shrimp was accompanied by several vegetables tempura style. The tastiest was the sweet potato slice. It would be smart of Shinto to offer a full meal of shrimp and vegetable tempura! If you'd like to try the hibachi meal, go on a Tuesday when it is half price. That is a very good deal.
The cook was amazing and did a wonderful job and was a pleasure . Although our server on the other hand spent most of his time entertaining two guests that he clearly knew at our table. 1 of the guest even was caressing his hand and fixing his tie for him I did feel like it was a little inappropriate. Also I reservation was for 8 p.m. and we did not receive a cook until about 9:35 I understand that Tuesday is a very busy night but I think sitting there for an hour and 35 minutes was a little obnoxious
Went with a friend for a birthday celebration and it was her first time at Shinto's. We were both extremely pleased with the chef at our table as he was professional as well as personable and even the little children at our table were entertained. The food was very good and overall a great experience.
This is a very nice place where anyone can go and have fun. It is pricy but worth it because you actually get a better serving size than others do. We had the shrimp and they were larger than many places around. The swordfish is very good too. I would recommend this place to friends and family for those special occasions.
Shinto may have the best Japanese food I've ever had.
There were 6 of us for my daughter and son-in-law's birthdays. We had steak and egg yolk shrimp, teriyaki chicken, seafood combo, chicken and hibachi shrimp and filet and garlic shrimp. All meals included soup, salad, grilled shrimp appetizer, entree, veggies and rice.
The soup was the most flavorful miso-type soup I've ever had. It was beef-based instead of the normal chicken-based. The salad had a delicious ginger dressing, much better than usual. The dipping sauces were a mustard sauce and a ginger sauce; both were wonderful. The veggies, carrots, onion, zucchini, broccoli and mushrooms, were prepared perfectly crisp-tender.
With a little sharing, we only had one small box of leftovers. We all were stuffed, but really happy.
Don't miss this place!
We've been here many times, but it was somehow even better this time around. Our Chef was fun without being corny or mechanical. Conversations flowed easily and we laughed quite a bit. Food was fresh and tasty as usual. Don't forget to ask about the $5.00 take home container of their ginger dressing. Such a great deal, but not on the menu. We will continue to make this our go-to place to celebrate birthdays with our adult children.
