The table was pretty sticky, service was slow (albeit Valentine's Day, so they were slammed). The edamame shells seemed old and weren't sliding off nicely, kept getting extra shell with every bite. Miso soup was not good, which I don't know if I've ever had bad miso soup until then? Sushi was underwhelming. They charged $15 for a corking fee, which I think they did just because it was Valentine's Day because their menu says no corkage fee Mon-Thurs... I am not sure why sushi places in Chicago can get away with being kind of dirty, have sub-par sushi and slow service and still survive. It's pretty close to home, but I don't forsee myself going back...
Excellent sushi, attentive staff, and clean upscale interior. Great place for a date.

Sushi is always spot on. Terrific bowls that serve as an alternate meal.
Fresh and creative. Great sushi.
Great food and service. Impressed upon the sushi rolls. Incredibly delicious.
Frequent diner, the food is always great and consistent.
However, they got rid of their valet parking, and it now takes at least 10-15 minutes to find a spot to park, which is so inconvenient, that this will be a negative for us going as frequently.
We just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to try out "SHINE" The service was spectacular- the hostess who seated us as well as the waiter were fantastic and welcoming. We had a table indoors but the wall opened up to the side walk so it was like being outside/ Great ambience and decor. Very light and airy. I had a great signature roll- spicy tuna/avocado/ cream cheese. It was beautifully presented and tasted great! My husband ordered the "morsels" chicken dish was delicious- perfectly cooked bite sized pieces of tender white meat chicken in a delicious, spicy sauce. The brown rice was cooked perfectly. The hot and sour soup was very good- with a slight lemon grass taste that made it fresh and different. The staff made us feel welcomed and we can't wait to visit again.
Great food and service as always! One of my favorite sushi places in the city!
Great food. We love the spring rolls and the sesame chicken.
Really good food and really good service. The same as Rise without the wait
Great food as always and marvelous service
Our server went above and beyond!! We brought our 20 month old there and just to accommodate her she brought us more edamame and couldn't have been sweeter. The food was great as always, but they treated us very well.
Everything about this place is wonderful - the food, The ambiance and the service. It's a well kept secret.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the Shanghai Noodles.
Super noisy with very low quality food. I suggest you dine somewhere else.
Lovely atmosphere with comfortable tables widely spaced, and a relaxed, quite ambience. Friendly service really aiming to please. Delicious fresh food in large portions, nicely seasoned. Many vegetarian options for us. We really enjoyed it and plan to go back.
My husbands and mine go to place for fresh sushi. Love the ambiance and the service is always great. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with a smile and a welcome.
It's my go-to sushi place. Love it, it's close by and has my favorite roll - the mexican maki.
Great food and friendly service. Price is right and casual.
Nice food and good waitress. They just forgot to bring out one of our rolls of sushi.
Didn't have sushi so can't comment on that. One of the dishes we ordered was mediocre at best, the other was interesting and tasty. Typical of Asian restaurants, a poor beer and wine selection.
We went here on a Sunday night. The restaurant was pretty quiet. One of my friends ordered sushi and there was a hair in it which kinda put a downer on the rest of the meal. Sushi was ok but have had better elsewhere. Entree portions were big.
Very good all around!
Restaurant was CLOSED! They had a burst water pipe. It happens. However they never called. Open Table never contacted me. We had theater tickets and everywhere else we went was booked.
I went here for a date on a Wednesday nigh since my significant other is vegetarian it was one of the best places to go to for vegetarian options. I had the sushi and it was fresh and fantastically tasty. My date enjoyed her meal as well as the wine. The service was very attentive and polite from the greeter, server, to the help. The price is fair since it is a Japanese Restaurant. I would go back to this restaurant multiple times. Thank you for the wonderful first experience!
We've loved this restaurant for many years and it didn't disappoint! Everything was great!
Shine is one of our favorites . The sushi is always fresh. Delightful!
Excellent as always! Third time here and I love it! Staff is awesome and food is amazing
Shine has been a neighborhood gem for years. Great sushi and consistent service.
This place is definitely under-rated. It was an excellent find. The sushi and food was amazing. We really enjoyed the soft-shell crab. We also had two specialty rolls. Great place and I will definitely return!
We ordered the Yuku roll & the Honey roll & it was great.
We also each had two martini's and split edamame, & our total was about $50 each, again reasonable pricing.
The sushi was so good! I recommended the sesame chicken too. The ambiance is perfect for talking. The service is quick too. I really enjoyed it.
We like to come here for sushi and other cooked Asian entrees. The food is always good and the service is spot on. The restaurant is always clean.
Great place to bring friends and family.
Always good, both the Japanese and Chinese menu.
The specialty rolls here are amazing and huge. The staff is so nice and made sure we were completely happy for our entire dinner. Will become a regular dinner stop for us.
Great dinner. Great favors. Excellent service a must try
Shine has good sushi and the ambiance is a step above what you find in most sushi restaurants in the area.
Service can be hit or miss, but the food is consistently well prepared.
This is a good go to for an easy week night meal
My review title is clever... :)
But in all seriousness, Shine was a great sushi restaurant. I have been to their sister location, 'Rise', which also provides a great dining experience. I recommend both of these restaurants for casual dinners or even a solid date spot
Shine is one of my favorite neighborhood sushi spots. Nothing that will blow your mind, but the fish is fresh and I like that they also over a variety of Asian entrees for those who don't love sushi!
