The worst restaurant in Williamsburg. The kitchen took it upon themselves to cook the food to their liking and make replacements for ingredients and side dishes mentioned on the menu. Management was completely absent and never addressed any of our issues. Our waitress seemed shocked that we wanted what we actually asked for and what was described on the menu.
One of my favorite spots in Williamsburg. I gave it 4 stars only because the music is a little too loud. Felt more like a lounge than a restaurant. If you go there just to hangout at the bar for drinks and a good time, then the loud music is perfect!
I am so conflicted about Shelter. Part of me loves it, and part of me hates it. Well, maybe not exactly hate...
The huge fireplace is such a great touch.. but know that you will leave and your clothes and jacket will reek and need to be cleaned, or aired out for days possibly weeks depending how close to the fire you are.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the music, but it is a bit loud, so it can make conversation hard. It feels more like a chill lounge where you should be having drinks, not exactly a place you would go for dinner?
The food and drinks are great, but if they are busy, be prepared to be ignored by your server.
So, would I recommend it, and would I go back? Probably... but maybe with some hesitations.
Fun place with great pizza.
We have been to Shelter many times and they are so nice! Food is delicious! We love to seat by the fireplace... Very cozy!
A+ in every way! Food, drinks, service, and ambience were all perfection!
Went for early brunch with a big group and had a perfect experience. Thank you so much!!
Out-of-town, and visiting Williamsburg to she a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Booking a reservation here was a shot in the dark (we picked it based off google reviews) and we could not have been more pleased. Shelter is worth the trip to BK in and of itself!
Wait staff was incredibly accommodating, and we appreciated the customized combination of meat and cheese boards for a party of two, at a more reasonable price. Pizza was excellent, and cocktails were delicious and creative!
Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the neighborhood.
Great place in the winter ! very very cosy. The decoration looks like a chalet in the mountains.
It was a nice experience, not great, but not terrible.
This used to be our favorite restaurant but it has really gone downhill. We hardly saw our server. They took our order maybe 20 minutes after we were seated. The food took 20 minutes. And the thing is- the restaurant was half empty- not that busy. When it came to paying our check - we had to hunt down our server and take our check to the cashier, since again, we were waiting ages for our server to come by. The food was ok- used to be better, but didn't make up for the terrible service.
Great find in Brooklyn. Super pizza, excellent crust. Service was awesome. Only con was sitting on stumps. Cute not comfy
Really nice service. Reservation was great. We loved the couch, the drinks, the pizza and the empanadas
Lovely pizza. Very cool and rustic design of the restaurant. Like an big old barn.
We've dined at Shelter before and had good experiences. Unfortunately this last visit left much to be desired. The food and service were both sub-par. Our server was over-stretched. We had to ask for water and condiments numerous times. Our sodas came out flat. The kale salad was droopy with butternut squash that was undercooked and hard as a rock. We were told that the burger could only prepared at medium temperature, and then it came out well-done. Zucchini carpaccio was over-seasoned and certainly not worth the price. Focaccia was tasty, but that was the only redeeming quality about our visit.
My friend and I split the truffle mac and cheese, which was incredible and very decadent. I got the margherita pizza, which was delicious; clearly had quality ingredients. Cocktails were delicious. We waited at our table after being seated for a fairly long time, given that the place was fairly empty, but once our orders were in, service was great.
It was a very pleasant stay at the Shelter. Food, service and ambiance were fantastic.
open air made it a bit warm staff was great...…………..
Booked and turned up and the restaurant was closed for the evening!!
Very good pizza. And we are Italians!!!
Rustic but chic
Music was alittle too loud to hold a converstaion but otherwise everything else was fine
Food was good. The ambiance is really nice. Waiters are very attentive!!! We will come back
Wonderful place with a lovely wooden atmosphere and great pizza! Also they do a wonderful brunch.
Love the open, rustic vibe here. Pizza and empanadas were yummy and the cocktails were different and fun!
The food was good. Unfortunately, I received my food about 20 minutes after the rest of my group got theirs. I literally had to flag multiply people down to ask about my food. Our waiter disappeared and never checked back on us when the food came. It wasn’t even busy I have no idea what those servers were doing. Nobody seemed to know how to work at a restaurant. I realized when the check came and the gratuity was already added in why he didn’t care. I made him take off my order since it took so long to come out. So horrible for me on Mother’s Day:( I will never return
great find! local place with good selection of food; pizza's excellent! music was a bit loud so hard to talk to each other but after asking to lower the staff did so.
The waiter seemed that he did not want to be there for some reasons. Besides the fact that he did bring the wrong drink he didn’t even apologize about it. We ordered 2 benedict’s he brought us only one, when we asked where’s the second he said it was coming. Obviously he ordered only one. The place should really take their time and train the staff properly, its a shame to have a nice place with good food and bad service. We were not expecting a red carpet but at least we expected some service. I hope things will change around SOON! I would give another chance to the place . Best of luck
Delicious food and great atmosphere, however the waitress was a bit pushy throughout the evening.
Muy buena y satisfactoria
Great spot for dinner before a show at the Music Hall. Really cute and cozy inside. Our cocktails were great, as was the pizza but the creme brulee was bad enough that we abandoned it. However they did comp it which was appreciated.
We got sat at a two top that really felt like it was squeezed into a hallway so we missed out on the wood fireplace experience. We could have asked for a different table, but who wants to be that person?
Overall I will definitely go back and sit somewhere else and order a different dessert!
They are super annoying about reservations and sitting near the fire. Also they have like 37 people working there, but somehow there service is awful
The food was delicious, the ambience comfortable and relaxing. But it was a huge disappointment that they were not serving Bloody Marys -- this was brunch time!!! -- because they were in the process of making the mix, and it wasn't ready until we were paying the bill. Who advertises their homemade Bloody Mary mix but doesn't have it ready for Sunday brunch?
Terrible experience - switched waiters and they completely forgot about us multiple times. Our table was freezing - we asked if we could move by the fire and they were rude about it. I asked if I could add a protein to my salad and was told no. There wasn’t even toilet paper in the bathroom. I rarely write reviews but this place was disappointing to say the least.
we went to celebrate my birthday. The food and service were excellent.
Way too loud and way more children than I’d have expected. Not bad for families but not great for conversation. Pizza was good though.
Lunch menu was limited on pizza selection. However the food was delicious.
The ambiance and environment were the only good things about Shelter. Our pizzas arrived soggy and we only saw our waiter once in 45 minutes (she sat us and took a drink order) bussers brought all of our food and drinks (we wound up ordering through them for more drinks) and eventually a new waiter came to wait on us at the end of our meal. Service was appalling and the wait staff were entirely disconnected and uninterested in giving us good service. Our first waiter literally barely acknowledged us. I won’t be returning or suggesting it to friends. Such a shame. The ambiance didn’t make up for the soggy food or appalling service.
The fix menu options get reduced to 1 simple option, the server was inattentive
The restaurant decor is so cozy and inviting. The fireplaces were ideal given the cold temps. Our brunch was delish and is definitely return but the empanadas are a little overpriced- delicious though.
