Salad was tasty. Pizza was fine but unremarkable, in my opinion (e.g., prosciutto was so thickly sliced as to border on cold cut ham). Our server attended to us as though we were a bother to her leisurely fraternizing with friends or other servers (?) at the bar area--hospitality skills were lacking. The hostess was quite lovely and accommodating to our needs. But overall, the experience just did not measure up to competing similar priced restaurants in the Brooklyn pizzariasphere--try Graziella's or Barboncino, Il Porto or Parkside for comparison, all far superior in my opinion.
We were in for the weekend and booked a reservation for Shelter Pizza. After driving to it and looking for parking, we walked to the restaurant and it was CLOSED!! I do not know if the food and service is good or not. I can tell you that Management is not very good and don't keep hours updated to prevent people from wasting their time deiving to a closed restaurant.
I'm a former patron of El Almacen (closed) Rosarito Fish Shack and Shelter since the day that it was started
Stopped going to all of them a while ago due to mediocre food, horrible service and cocktails that were watered down They also changed the staff very often due to payments problems as per former employees
Decided to give a chance to Shelter today but the experience was horrible We ordered cocktails that were pure water and ingredients were missing Ordered ham and cheese empanada a salad and a corn in addition to main courses and they brought them all together
Sent back my skirt steak and clearly requested to have a new one done when finished with my appetizer Requested one Ham and CH empanada and got two beef empanadas Sent them back Two soggy pizzas bland and my skirt steak was the same item brought first by mistake and it was just warm and rubbery Sent this back and requested to talk with the manager This place is a real mess Horrible food, watered down cocktails and no AC in the middle of summer Cheap owners that do not care about customers Will never return to this place
We liked a lot
The worst restaurant experience in a long time. I am a sure the food was good, but I cannot be certain because I never got my order. After 45 minutes watching our waiter talk to his friends while several other tables had to walk up to him to get checks, we finally threw in the towel. Had to tell the hostess to cancel our order and bring our check for our drinks. At least they comped the drinks.
So I would advise hesitancy to go here. Instead, do what we did. Walk to La Nonna where we were treated like royalty and had some damn good pizza.
Was so nice for date night with my love ❤️
Terrible fish, very long wait to place our order, and everything came at once. Also, had to flag down a server for each request, whether for water, to order, to get the check etc. sad because I really liked this place on previous occasions. Their chicken empanadas were still great though.
Arrived at 8PM. Ordered immediately and order easy things (One pizza, one burger, and four empanadas) because we were starving and had young kids with us. Got our drinks rather quickly, but they forgot my husband‘s beer. The beer arrived 15 minutes later and it was warm. Around 8:30 PM another waiter, who was not our original waiter, came by all of the tables and was explaining that the kitchen was very behind and that our food would be out next. I asked him if we could get the check, because we didn’t want to miss the fireworks. He brought the check immediately and I paid. Getting the check and paying the check was by far the fastest service we received. By 9 PM, we still had not received our food. When I went to inquire, because nobody had checked on us since 8:30, The only person I found was the hostess. I asked her if it was possible to check on the status of our food, since 75% of the tables were now empty. She replied, “I don’t know what you want me to do, I’m just the hostess. You’ll have to find a server.” We waited 20 more minutes and not ONE shelter pizza staff member was around. Finally, around 9:25 PM, a kitchen staff member brought out the food. He was apologetic, which was appreciated; however, because it was so late, we had to scarf it down. The food is a blur. Couldn’t even tell you how it tasted. My husband‘s empanadas were rockhard. Again, I never saw the server. We just got up and left. My kids missed the fireworks (which was literally the only reason we drove into Brooklyn) and we drove the hour home hungry and frustrated. My brother lives in Brooklyn and we have close friends that live three blocks from shelter pizza. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would recommend to either of them or would visit again when we are in the area.
The service here is sooooo slow. Everytime I've been here and sat outside, it has taken at least 30 minutes to have a server come. Maybe it's just for outside people?
The food was great. Expect service to be super slow if it’s busy. We had to wait 30 min for each drink order.
This is definitely one of the most original interiors in Williamsburg. Unfortunately the food is not as good as one would hope. Was a great chef yes this place could be a high point in Williamsburg. Unfortunately the kitchen is populated by cooks but there is very little imagination. Unfortunately too the steak that we had had been to defrosted. That’s not good
I do hope they fix the above things because the people who are serving us are delightful and they deserve a top kitchen situation
The pizzas and empanadas are fantastic! We also loved the guacamole we had as an appetizer. Service was attentive, and the ambience of the restaurant is really nice. We will be back.
Friendly waitress and great food.
It's always a great experience and a delicious meal!
Gluten Free pizza inedible!
Very heavy, tick and doughy.
The rest of the food average.
We waited for a very long time before we got the food.
Staff was very polite though and they even took the gf pizza off the check.
I had made a reservation, showed up on time , but the hostess was not helpful at all. She dismissed us from the moment we walked through the door, refused to acknowledge us, and finally offered us a table after complaining and showing our confirmation from OpenTable.
As someone who has worked in hospitality for several years at different upscale venues, I didn’t appreciate the comments made by the hostess and the staff, and it’s not funny to be ignored or made wait without any explanation or to be told that they are closing at 8pm at night, just because the hostess doesn’t want to sit you or do her job.
Amazingly good - delicious pizza and cocktails! My fave was the truffle pizza. Also, a margherita is a must.
Took this reservation with hopes of eating the same "Entraña" they used to sell at their sister restaurant, El Almacén. It was good, but not as great... the quality was not the same.
The service was good, wines by the glass ok. We had the burrata salad which was excellent, and with the meat we ordered the corn and the grilled veggies, that was great as well.
Music was a little bit loud, but the ambiance is nice.
The service was great and everything we ordered was delicious. The place is decorated so beautifully and the music was great.
Shelter is one of my favorite places in Williamsburg. The staff is amazing, the food is great, the atmosphere is spot on- and been such a great place to go during all of Covid- we have eaten outdoors in the coldest weather and could not have been happier. Will keep coming back as long as it remains this good!!
Great Ambience, Food and Service ! Would definitely go back !
Strange experience. We were sitting outside. Our food arrived and they turned the heater off.
I asked for it to go back on and was told that it had to be off as they were closing outside. We wouldn’t have chosen to eat there if there wasn’t a heater so it was a weird set up for them to turn it off as soon as they fed us. Food was fine but this put us off
Pizza was solid. The sauce could have had more flavor. The empanada was good, but served room temperature. It would have been better hot. The service was a bit slow, but overall a good dining experience.
Delicious food, super pleasant service, and a cool looking ambiance indoor and outdoor
Great food and Decent service ! Sat outside in the outdoor seating tent. Very comfortable atmosphere and the wait staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend this. The pizza is definitely highly recommended and so are the empanadas , made really well. I would go again !
The food was great and worth every penny.
Amazing service and great views
Great overall. Loved the food in general. Amazing pizza and empanadas
Ample outside seating- A few open air sidewalk tables in the shade and then a variety of tables in a tent with heat lamps. Only had a few small bites so can’t comment a ton- empanadas were more like stuffed cheesy bread but they are good. Dough is pizza dough and they are baked not fried. French toast was delicious! Portion is not too big or too small. We went at noon on a Saturday and crowd was super lite.
We arrived at open and were welcomed into this quaint restaurant. We were the first to arrive and warmly welcomed by the staff. We were told by friends that the pizza is the best in town- we happen to be keto at the moment (pizza... right?) so we ordered the PARILLADA FOR TWO- wow! Steaks, chicken, sausage- everything was fantastic. I would suggest maybe better for three people but if you are hungry and not in a hurry- it was just great.
Staff was all masked up and covid proper.
My date and I were seated promptly by the fireplace. It was super cozy and the ambiance was lovely. There was not silverware on our table and the service was spotty. The food was okay. We ordered a brick oven pizza that was tasty and also ordered an empanada which surprisingly was not a closed empanada but rather an open face dish. It was beautifully plated but didn’t pass the taste test. That could very well be a personal preference so take it with a grain of salt.
Beautiful place, delicious food and great music in the background.
Beautiful rustic interior design. The GM gave us free shots and we were reseated inside because open table over booked reservations. She was very accommodating. The shirt steak and fries was good. I’m definitely going back!
This place was fun and exciting to look at. The decor and ambiance is great.
Paradilla not cooked right
Service was extremely slow. It took a very long to get drinks and food.
Great experience! Super yummy yum yum yum yum yum yum
wonderful decor, friendly and knowledgable staff, good quality food
Very nice Place-- I would highly rec. I ate here a while ago- and the service and food was more of a 3 star place-- this time I would say 4.5 ....
Will definitely come back- and hope it stays 4.5 stars...
Definitely a nice romantic date spot, it was a bit cold but the blankets were a great addition. So happy to see couples bring their dogs as well.
