Shelter Pizza Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoyed my time here. Didn’t plan on coming here at all because I was expecting it to be your typical pizza joint. Luckily I looked at the menu and got really excited about the empanadas which were you actually really good. I ordered the pulled piggy and beef empanadas. My friends also really enjoyed their food as well: Steak, Lox and burger. The wines are really good as well as the pear cider, which my friend raves about. Will definitely be coming back!
This was a very cosy spot, I can’t wait to see it when th fireplace is going. I went wth a couple of friends. We sat on the couch and shared pizza and wine. It was nice, Pizza was good. Again, I’d like to go back when the fire is going. Very nice atmosphere.
Made a reservation for 7:00pm. We came from out of town to meet friends and booked the reservation weeks in advance. When we got there, my reservation had been moved to 9:00pm, without prior notice or contact to me, due to a private party that was planned. We, of course, had to go elsewhere. I would have appreciated being contacted before we went all the way there.
Was late for my reservation by 10 minutes--still accommodated me and date no issue. Staff was friendly--but not overbearingly so. Food and drink orders taken quickly--arrived quickly and hot.
The empanadas were underwhelming for the price. The pizza was a nice snack for two on our way to a concert.
The $15 cocktail was delicious, but very small.
Nice place to stop before hitting your planned venue in Williamsburg. The smell of wood burning in the chimney place while you dine is a nice aromatic way to escape the city without leaving it.
The place is absolutely incredible, it looks like you eat in a chalet after sking !
However, we didn't found the food so good : we were a little disappointed by the plate we take..
We definitely think that you have to chose the pizza or empanadas if you get there !
But the atmosphere is incredible, i loved this place
One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. And I've had some bad ones at Shelter. Brought some people no food, some people their entrees before their apps, some people just their entrees with no apps. Manager humiliated himself trying to "make it right". Just a disaster.
Came here for brunch and found the atmosphere different (sort of western looking) with its large open feel and living room style seating (sofas and coffee style tables). I would like to come back for a happy hour to see the evening scene and would think it is nice during the winter with its large fireplace. I'd recommend it
The atmosphere and ambiance of this place cannot be beat! Cottage in the mountains feel with unique and delicious pizza options! Came here to celebrate a special occasion with 8 people. Upon arrival and check in with the hostess, it appeared she couldn't find our reservation as I believe she gave it to the group directly in front of us on accident. However, within 10-15 minutes, with an apology and smile on her face, she was able to seat us at another table and the night was saved. Service was a little lack luster considering it was pretty slow at the time.
I've been to Shelter many times, cause their pizza and empanadas are delicious, I loved their comfortable couches and casual atmosphere. This time I walked in with friends, as I always did. They told me it would take 40 minutes to get a table. We decided to wait. More than 1 hour later, we had to table yet (after talking to the hostess a number of times). I go to the Open Table app and make a reservation, for 10 min later (to my surprise, it shows tables would be available!). In 10 min I talk to the hostess and she says they have no table for us. I question why they accepted my reservation in Open Table. She calls the owner. He says: "the fact that you have a reservation confirmed in Open Table doesn't mean we have tables available". What?!?!? After discussing the situation with the owner, we were obviously disappointed and decided to go somewhere else, when they miraculously found us a table. We sat and I enjoyed my very last meal at this place, as I'm never going back there. The total waiting time was 2 hours.
There is no good food that can compensate the embarrassment of taking your guests to a place, and make them wait forever for a table, as the hostess would give us wrong waiting time estimates again and again, and the owner saying your reservation means nothing.
Shelter's management don't know how to do the very basics in a restaurant that accepts reservations: manage reservations.
My husband and I read some bad reviews about Shelter and the service but it looked really cute and we were looking for a cozy spot to hang. Our waitress was great! Whenever we needed something she was right there and I noticed she payed attention to all of her tables. We were very satisfied. The food, mainly the Kale Salad and the Margherita Pizza were AMAZING. We will definitely be back.
This place was good for our double date, lots of groups around so definitely felt it was a good place for small or even large groups. Service was mediocre..our server was nice but forgot our drink orders a couple times. The burger was pretty good but the mussels were not - broken shells and some weren't even opened.
Cocktails were pretty good and atmosphere is very cool.
My name is Camila Jurado and I am writing to you because I have some suggestions and some complains in name of my boyfriend and I, that I think you will appreciate for your restaurant in the future. We went for brunch yesterday in our anniversary because last year my boyfriend had a delicious pizza with eggs and bacon (the one you have in the webpage), we were very excited to come back and eat the pizza again and very happy to celebrate the day, but things didn't go well in he restaurant. We made a reservation and when we arrived the waitress told us that they didn't had that pizza anymore, even though You had it in your menu in your webpage (and that was he only reason we wanted to go there) so we where like ok, we are already here so let's eat something, so he tried the pizza with mushroom and I asked for the steak and eggs. The pizza was nothing like the last one we had and the steak that I asked as MEDIUM RARE came extremely cooked, I had to returned it and the taste wasn't even that good, but we finished our plates. Then we wanted to try other thing to make the brunch worth it and we asked for the French toasts, The waitress took almost 40 minutes to bring us the next thing we ordered and when we got it the French toast was all burned, dry and only had a small amount of dulce de leche, so it tasted like a burned bread. We felt really down because the experience wasn't even good enough for the occasion and for the price we payed, and I don't think this is a place I would recommend anymore, I really hope you fix this problems you have because it will cost you costumers and you bussines. It's just a recommendation and I do his because our first time there was so good we picked you for a special day.
Thank you for reading this,
Camila Jurado and David Ospina
Really nice and cozy ambiance that's great for dining with your s.o. or a large group of friends. Their gluten-free pizza is ah-mazing, best I've ever tried hands down! My fiancee (who's lucky enough to eat gluten) orders the GF crust over the regular, it's that good. They also have live music which is awesome. Overall, this place never disappoints making it one of my regular dining go-to's.
I came here for my birthday last weekend with 8 people. The waitress made sure to let me know that we were limited on time, and seemed annoyed that we were not placing our order right away. She made me feel rushed, and ruined the experience. I said something to her about it, and she laughed it off. Probably would not recommend this place for large parties.
Shelter Pizza is one of my favorites, with the exception of this past Saturday night (11/21) when I arrived with a party of 10 people. Put bluntly, the hostess who was working that night deserves to be fired on the spot.
I walked up to her with a smile, checked in, and she tried to turn us away because we were 10 minutes late. On background, we had a reservation and I touched base with the restaurant earlier in the afternoon about adding 2 people - which they confirmed was 'totally fine'. This woman, who was working at approximately 8pm, threatened twice that we had 1 hour and 20 minutes exactly to eat, and that we could not add additional chairs to our long table. I told her I had called several hours ago, and she responded, "well that wasn't me on the phone." It was the single most unprofessional encounter I've had in Williamsburg. I asked her again very nicely if we could add chairs, noting that we would obviously squish in, and she said, "Do you promise?"
I have never been spoken to like this. I will never be returning, which is a shame because it was my go-to for big groups. It is also a shame that one of my guests at dinner works for the NYT food section.
By the way: we told our waitress about this, and she was embarrassed but said she was not surprised by this at all. SHE was incredibly nice and accommodating, and put our order through very fast so that the hostess did not kick us out before we were done eating our meal. Again, please remove this hostess who was working at 8pm on 11/21 from your restaurant.
