Shearns Seafood and Prime Steaks Ratings and Reviews
First time visit: Great view, imaginative menu and great wine by the glass list. Lobster risotto with corn (side dish) was delicious, amuse bouche before meal and palate cleansers between courses were a bonus. A very pleasant surprise to discover this level of fine dining on our little island.
My wife and I were staying at the hotel and wanted to have a nice dinner. The reviews were decent so we gave Shearns a try. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Wine list was a little disappointing but they had something for every price range. Escargot was good and we both ordered the surf and turf. The steak was excellent and prepared as we asked. The lobster tail was overdone and tough. Overall the restaurant was good. The hotel calls it "fine dining" so I guess I was expecting more.
Micheal, our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu even went as far as telling us about the special of the day. Both my wife and myself got the prime rib with the lump crabmeat which by the way was delicious. Michael was very attentive & polite as well. Hope to come back soon.
The overall ambiance of the resturant was so relaxing with a view of the ocean and the water park . The food was absolutely delicious. The ribeye steak was so tender it could melt in your mouth and seasoned to perfection. The sauted shrimp were delightful. I would definitely recommend to my anyone looking for a quiet romantic evening to make a reservation.
This was by far the best restaurant that we visited in Galveston. I absolutely enjoy first class table settings and service and Shearns is it. The food was excellent; the service superb. If you enjoy fine dining you cannot miss this restaurant. All of the food was served beautifully and at the correct temperatures. The dessert we chose, the chocolate cake could have served 4; it was absolutely delicious! We had to take it home. I say if you are anywhere near Galveston, go here! You will be glad you did!
We have been to Shearns several times over many years. This past experience was VERY disappointing in every way. Only about 30% of the tables were occupied when we arrived. The service was extremely slow and non attentive and the food was fair. We left very disappointed in the service and food. It will be awhile before we return.
Place and food were decent. But an annoying FLY disrupted things for me and my guests! Almost entire time. Servers said they could not do much... even though this is a fine dining establishment...disappointing. Thanks to manager Mr. Perez for free dessert sand coffee.
By far the finest restaurant in Galveston! Shearn's has a formal atmosphere intentionally perpetuated by linen table coverings and napkins, nice flatware and dinnerware, plush seating, high ceilings, and uniformed waitstaff. The Gulf of Mexico looms beyond.....but the ambience is invaded by the 9th story visual of Schlitterbahn directly below and blocking every view. Oh well. This IS waterfront Southeast Texas so what can one reasonably expect? Moody Gardens is, after all, a totally casual family-themed resort with Shearn's the only classy oasis in the midst of bathing-suit clad flip-flopped tourists that keep the place in business. The food and service at this top-floor dining room is superlative, however, and we never fail to make reservations whenever we are in town.
The food was excellent. The drinks were really very good - would compare to Rudy and Paco or the Tremont on the Island. Service was good but waiter seemed a little overwhelmed even though it was not crowded. Did not get Sorbet like most of the other people surrounding us nor did we see our waiter often. However he was very polite and and friendly, just seemed a little flustered. The view and rest of staff were great. This is one of the best places on the Island.
We hadn't been to Shearn's for a while and were pleasantly surprised. The food was quite good and the service was also quite good. We were celebrating some friend's 45th wedding anniversary and everything was just right for the occasion. Prices are a bit high for Galveston but worth the expense.
Shearn's is a hidden gem in Galveston, at the top of the Moody Gardens Hotel. It blends old-school service with a fresh menu. Steaks are superlative, but do not forget to order your souffle for dessert! My favorite is raspberry. These days, it feels like we pay five-star prices for three-star service and meals--at Shearn's, you get what you pay for--in a good way!
Romantic, quiet with awesome Gulf views and top level service and menu. Brush up on your knowledge of multiple utensils and wine glasses!! If you don't have a clue about "high" or "executive" restaurant service, the staff will subtly handle it without embarrassing you. The maitre d is a gentlemanly pro and the waitstaff top notch.
Dress up and enjoy old world class.
Shearns opened for Fathers Day, so I decided to surprise my boyfriend with dinner. Booking through Open Table was easy and quick, BUT--I didn't see the dress code, so we showed up in shorts. The maitre d' didn't miss a beat, but directed us to the lounge, where we enjoyed excellent service, the same menu as in the dining room, and live music, all with a great sunset view and a casual but classy atmosphere.
We both had steaks--the NY Strip and the 20 oz. bone-in ribeye special. I asked for Pittsburgh Rare and got it to perfection. Outstanding!!! I highly recommend the wedge salad--blue cheese, bacon, and a yummy dressing that blends everything together. The sides were very nice, although I found the sautéed spinach to be very garlic-heavy. We finished up with cappuccinos.
Shearns turned my mistake into a terrific and memorable evening, instead of a big disappointment. We felt like our evening plans were important to everyone we encountered, even the pianist. We will return!
This is a very special place - unfortunately there was a table of five very chatty (loud) women seated near us and it sort of spoiled the ambiance. There were just having a good time, so we didn't want to raise an issue, but it made it impossible for us to have a quiet conversation. I certainly learned all about them, however, much more than I was interested in knowing. When you are spending 100+ for dinner for two, you really don't want people acting like you are a Denny's nearby. Won't prevent me giving another try, however. The views are spectacular and the piano bar is terrific.
