Shaw's Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Bad service, bad food. Got the beet salad- which had way too much dressing on it. My boyfriend got the skillet mac n cheese with eggs, and the eggs were dramatically under-cooked and the mac n cheese was soupy. The waitress forgot about bringing more water to our table; my friend got the unlimited mimosas and the waitress wasn't around to refill them at all.
Overall, really disappointing experience. Will not be going back. Upset that it was as expensive as it was for the service and food quality.
Went here for a birthday date with my boyfriend and I really enjoyed my time here. This was my first time here and the food was great, but the price for bottomless mimosas was even better! Next time I come I'll make sure to get the chicken and waffles. They also did a great job with making sure the note I left in the notes section was met
Beware of the seat below upstairs dining . Dust fell right into our first table and into my drink so we had to move. The waiter didn't quite explain the corn bread waffle accurately he said it was a waffle and the chicken was breaded in corn bread. Not my preference or the friend I was with. The chicken was huge but kind of dry. We had to send it back. It comes with bacon maple syrup and maple syrup. The 2nd order was decent. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and my friend had the 2 eggs breakfast with toast and pork sausages if I remember correctly. She liked it . Gravy from my meal was a little soupy but tasty like a broth with 2 eggs over easy and some spicy sausages that were yummy. The mimosas were a great value which kind of help me get over the chicken and waffles. The menu I feel should be revamped. The staff was very nice and service was great honestly. Just didn't care for the food.
Food was excellent, but one of the dishes was incorrect, and they forgot to bring my client their soda. They brought out the right dish quickly, but still forgot to take the incorrect one off the bill when it came. Tough to get the attention of the waiter to get the incorrect meal corrected. While the food was great, would not recommend it for a business lunch.
We came before a show at the 930 club and it was good service, great food, and a nice place for us to connect and have a conversation before heading to a show were you can't talk. I had the fall salad and was able to add chicken for a reasonable price, it was tasty and I love having options on the menu that are healthier and yummy. My husband had the burger and enjoyed it as well.
This was a very disappointing experience, as I've been here before and had much better.
Let's start with our arrival. When I got to the restaurant at my reservation time (12:00), the hostess said "your table isn't ready" and that it would be a "short wait" before we could sit down. Okay, no problem. About fifteen minutes go by, so I inquire with the hostess again. She says something about her getting to the restaurant late and blames the servers for seating people at our reserved table, which I found off putting and entirely unprofessional. By 12:25, we are hungry, extremely annoyed, and about ready to leave. The hostess tells us it'll be just five minutes, that they have to clear off the table. A waitress who we've seen advising the hostess that people with reservations come in and sit down and shouldn't have to wait comes over and apologizes, saying our table is almost ready. Not a minute later, the hostess comes over to us and says, "actually did you want to sit outside?" ...What? You just told us our table was being cleared off and would be ready in a few minutes. No, we don't want to sit outside; it's 50 degrees. Again the waitress comes over and is apologetic, but this time she leads us to our table. 12:35
I wish the review could stop there, but there's more At least 2 groups just in the time we were there had booked party-brunches (in such a small dining room? Who okayed that?) and while one group was permitted to bring in giant, child-sized balloons that bumped into at least four tables, the other group had to (?) change the location of their tables, causing a hubbub in the restaurant as they moved.
During our brunch, my boyfriend and I were horrified by the inattention of our waiter (the waitress who'd been so attentive earlier frequently picked up his slack). At one point, we couldn't even find this guy in the dining room for over 10 minutes.
Overall, this is the worst experience I have had at Shaw's Tavern, and I will likely not be going back.
Second date, kind of skeptical, especially when you've never been to a place before. Did a quick review scan and got the go ahead from one of my good friends. Surprisingly it was my date's first time as well. Needless to say, everything about this place was great. Looking forward to coming back for the much talked about brunch. Food, service, and the overall vibe was great. Most importantly they had clean fresh smelling bathrooms. LOL
Took our teenage kids here while visiting my son at college. Casual, cozy neighborhood bar feel and great live music was just the atmosphere we were looking for. Baked wings as an appetizer was a standout. Chicken and waffle cones appetizer was fun but too sweet for my taste. We all had burgers that had great flavor and a good char on the outside. Good beer selection too. I'm not sure what is great about this Shaw neighborhood as we are from out of town. There really wasn't anywhere to walk around after or shops to look in- that was a bit disappointing.
The restaurant was really cute. We went for brunch after seeing many positive reviews. I ordered the eggs benedict. I was disappointed in the way they tasted, didn't even finish them. My friends said their meals were okay as well. Nothing too great. The service was also just okay. Would try again, but maybe not for brunch.
A group of friends introduced me to Shaw's Tavern earlier this year. I typically don't eat out a lot because I have very specific taste in atmosphere.
I love everything about Shaw's Tavern. Since my first visit I've visited your establishment at least 8 times. I would change a thing about this place.
Unexpectedly decided to come to lunch here for first time. Fun place that appears to be LGBT friendly. Wednesday lunch special was Maryland crab, shrimp and avocado quasidella and it was excellent! My friend ordered the Cobb salad and the server was kind enough to note it was missing grilled chicken and quickly remedied by getting some. Great open space, lots of windows looling ourside restaurant/bar with outside seating too. Friendly and attentive service too!
My husband and I thought we would try out this place this past Tuesday, their trivia night. First note, make sure to make reservations, they get pretty busy after 7pm! It was a fun atmosphere and it was a full house even on a rainy night which was surprising. I came in half drenched and in poor spirits from the rain and boy did this place make it a great night. We ordered the chicken & waffles and the pesto chicken pizza - both were so delicious! We also ordered a pitcher of the red sangria (came in a huge glass jug!) which was well worth the 40 bucks. Highly recommend and we'll be back with friends!
A great place to grab a bite to eat and your favorite beverage or explore a new beverage. Cajun shrimp and grits was quite spicy with rather too firm grits for my liking but it was good, ample serving. Appetizers are a meal in themselves and fit for sharing. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Clean, well kept interior; outdoor seating on the corner of Florida Ave and 6th St NW so be happy with constant heavy traffic passing on Florida Ave or sit inside; multiple TV screens with varied programs; well announced daily live entertainment and/or specials in the evenings.
Love coming to Shaws! Such a great neighborhood hangout spot. 1/2 burger and pizzas on Tuesdays is the best deal in DC.. Get the white one pizza or the Heidenberger (sp). Funnel cake fries are also amazing... With they still had s'mores though! Delicious food and a fun vibe every time!
Shaw's Tavern is a great neighborhood gathering place, with good food and cheery customers. Friends and I met for Sunday brunch, which was crowded, but the food was delicious. The downside to its popularity is the high-decibel environment inside, from both the patrons and the addition of ear-splitting music. I liked the tunes, but it was too loud for conversation, and we left sooner than we might have.
