It was a nice evening so we sat outside. The atmosphere was nice and casual. It's right off Florida avenue and since it was around 7pm, there was a lot of traffic and sights but not distracting or overly loud. There were people with babies and/or dogs. The food was good. Was not a fan of the Kale salad. The happy hour is very limited so no need to rush for their happy hour, although the pizza was very good. Our particular server was slow but nice.
Dinner with friends. It's a great local sports bar with a wide variety of food and drinks options. The food is nothing too special but it hits the spot and you'll be able to find something you're craving. A good range of beers, wines, and full bar with some classic cocktails. Solid tv coverage. Haven't been upstairs yet but hope to check out the piano bar sometime soon!
The grilled cheese sandwich was really good. I order a Shirley Temple, which the waiter didn't really know how to make....she put too much grenadine. It's a pretty easy drink but since it's virgin, it's probably not requested as often.
I'd heard good things about the tavern, but service left much to be desired. Our group was 6 people for a Saturday brunch.
1. Our reservation was "honored," but only because they put us outside on metal chairs in a tent-- I think most people would agree that a reservation entails a spot to experience the ambiance of the restaurant. If outside/inside was a concern, we should have been contacted before.
2. Food did not come out together, and we had to pester both the runner and the server for the food, which eventually came out after everyone else had finished.
To other points, they were very good about staying on top of our glasses for bottomless brunch, and the server did give free apps for our troubles. Food was "good."
Not the most amazing cuisine, but solid choices and a menu that kind of feels like a grown-up kids menu. The place had a good vibe, though - good music, nice people, relaxed and easy. Great for when you just want to be social without a lot of pretension.
The brunch menu was great and had some nice vegetarian options too!
I love Shaw's Tavern but what I've noticed is the service isn't great! The food and prices are great but not the waiters! I've waited a long time for food, for a drink, and to get my check.
My boyfriend and I ate here for Valentine's Day. I usually love Shaw's Tavern but they may not be the best at tending to large crowds. My boyfriend had to walk to the bar twice in order to refill my mimosa... which should have never been empty. Also the food seriously lacked seasoning. My mac n cheese tasted like noodles mixed with soupy, salt-less cheese sauce. Maybe I'm biased because I ordered the wrong thing. But our servers wasn't all that great either.
I went there for brunch at 10am on a Sunday. Food was meh, expensive, and coffee was not hot.
Super fun and affordable! Great live jazz, and the s'mores for the table was a huge hit. The food was good and the bar scene was ever busy and sounded fun. A great neighborhood spot!
I have been before and still will easily go back to Shaw's Tavern. This time however, there was not enough waitstaff to ensure timely service.
Waffle was a little different, I didn't enjoy it that much. Chicken was under-cooked, very red.
Mediocre service and food with a downright rude host. We were one of a handful of tables when they opened at 10am. The table also had crumbs on it, so it clearly wasn't cleaned property.
Got there 10 minutes before our reservation and they seated us right away. Had the western omelette and breakfast potatoes, which were really awesome. Best part was the bottomless mimosas that were truly bottomless. Our server was great and really nice. Awesome date spot or for groups!
Great neighborhood spot either after work or just for dinner with friends.
I always enjoy dining at Shaw's Tavern. The food is consistently good and the staff is friendly and attentive. It has a great neighborhood feel and has always been welcoming.
Bloody Mary tasted very fresh. Everyone in our party was pleased with their food.
The food was great and my favorite was the fried green tomatoes!!
The Server wasn't very attentive. He disappeared for long stretches and then has to request a refill on bottomless mimosas. He didn't seem like he wanted to be at work. The food was merely ok. I did enjoy the teriyaki wings. Lastly, it's a small space so a few tables are awkwardly placed: in front of the hostess stand and two right in the path of the food pickup area.
I have eaten there twice and both times waited 30 minutes plus for the first round of drinks to arrive. At the most recent visit, they came at the same time as the food, 35 minutes after we ordered. We got up from our table twice to check on the order and were told both times they were coming. We were never offered an apology.
I had the Fried Chicken with the Cornbread Waffle and a bourbon maple syrup. It was ammmaaazziinngg. The chicken was juicy and crunchy and the waffle was great.
Friend green tomatoes and eggvocado are delicious. However, we waited about 45 min from our appetizers to our main course.
A group of five of us went for brunch. They were accommodating of us having one person more than I had a reservation for, so that was nice. We were able to get a seat outside relatively easy. The food was fine. Better than I remembering it being. But the service was very poor. The server was very nice, but was notably absent, and the place did not seem very crowded at all. The tipping point (pun intended) was when the check came out, and they had included a 20 percent gratuity for a five-person table. I understand mandatory gratuity for boozy brunches, but only one of us was drinking. This "gratuity policy" was also noted nowhere on any menu, so there was no way we could be informed.
This is a fun neighborhood bar but the food is just okay for me.
I went here with some friends for brunch because I heard great things! I chose the California eggs Benedict and unfortunately I was not impressed at all. The eggs were cold and it really did not have much taste. I heard from a few other people that they found this to be true as well but the rest of the menu is great. I am going to give it another shot-the ambiance and service were great!
The daily pizza was absolutely delicious
Nice food, high energy, very lively restaurant. 'Gastropub' description is probably a stretch but a nice evening out.
Recommend the watermelon pitchers
and the fish sandwich was taken off the menu...must bring that back asap!
Just moved into the neighborhood, so it's a real regular spot for me now, but I've been coming to Shaw's Tavern for solid burgers and good salads for years. Friendly staff, too. Sign up to sing on piano-bar nights at your own risk, though: it's competitive.
Tuesday half priced burger and pizza is a great deal
Our server was not attentive. The only time we had contact with was by asking another server to get him. Never before have i experienced such poor service.
In love with this place- probably go two or three times a month! This menu is so fun and there is something for everyone. Beautiful salads that will please any lady and incredible comfort food options like pulled pork sandwiches, ribs and mac and cheese. Handmade pizzas here are always unique and the cocktails are amazing. Love the strawberry margarita and moscow mule. The servers are all hip and pleasant and the overall vibe is pretty cool and different than other DC hot spots. A great add to Shaw and a local favorite, sort of hipster but incredibly approachable and fun. Super great for groups or a nice and casual date night. Brunch is an absolute must here and the live music on the weekends, plus weeknight events and trivia, make each visit a little different and exciting. Also, the menu is really good with changing according to seasonal ingredients, which I always love. This place is trending for sure, check it out and you will be back again and again. Cheers!
My friends and I decided to try Shaws Tavern for a weekend escape. I had the chicken and waffles and loved it! The syrup has little pieces of bacon in it which had me in heaven. Two of my friends also enjoyed the chicken and waffles. We were all very pleased and plan to return to Shaws soon.
Shaws Tavern really disappoints and it's nice to have a neighborhood restaurant with consistently good food and service. I am a fan of their brunch menu and I always get the chicken and waffles. I hear they will add white meat which is awesome. They just need more options for kids to round out the menu.
Delicious food and cocktails and great service. Definitely worth stopping by this DC gem.
Was in town for vacation, was recommended to go here with the understanding that service wasn't the best. We went and our waiter came to our table once to take our food order, and after the food runner dropped off our food we never saw the waiter again. Had to get up and ask where he was so we could get our check.
It's nice to go if you have a lot of time, the food is pretty good!
Beautiful patio and great place in the neighborhood - grab a beer or some comfort food and relax .
Unfortunately if you are a steak and eggs eater do not order this meal if you require steak sauce. My steak and eggs was incomplete without it. The steak was very chewy. Service was great and the cheesy grits were delicious that my friend ordered. I ate more of his meal than mine.
Neighborhood tavern with good food. Service almost too quick. Good wings, Salmon and specials/
