Shaw's Crab House - Schaumburg Ratings and Reviews
We do this Santa Brunch Buffet each year with the kids. Disappointing this year as they had no crab or prime rib. Server said they stopped offering crab 4 months ago at the Brunch and moved it to a-la-carte, clearly so they can charge more for it. In addition to the fixed price.
They should at minimum, consider offering another tier of pricing to include crab as well.
Service and ambience are always nice.
This restaurant has really gone downhill. Terrible wine list. $9 for a glass of wine from a bottle I can buy at jewel not even mid shelf for $7.99??? The food was the equivalent of some chain ie Noodles n company. The lettuce was browned and wilted in my chopped salad with lack of ingredients (in all fairness I asked for the bacon to be removed) and pasta was greasy and lacking flavor. This place used to be so good! Please stay away! Spend a fraction of the money with better quality going to a Mom n pop shop in River Forest. Lesson learned. I had gone back in 2015 (bad then) and wanted to give it another chance. One thing I will say is the service (Maria) was excellent! My only positive
Unfortunately, my opinion on this location is largely based in comparison the the Chicago location.
The price for Sunday brunch was "reasonable," at $45 per person, but it is less expensive than the Chicago location because they do not offer crablegs, beef tenderloin or crab cakes - 3 items I specifically book brunch at Shaw's to eat! The brunch value is remarkable compared to normal menu. The waiter was telling us you could probably spend about $100/person on a normal meal without the vast selection of a buffet. I probably would not dine here outside of brunch because of this.
The environment is a little bit more comfortable than the Chicago location, much larger and more open, and far less crowded. But that doesn't really say something good about the restaurant if they're not busy during their best time of the week to eat.
It feels a little bit less "fancy" than the Chicago location, but not much. It's still opulent and made me feel like it was a truly special occasion being there.
The service was excellent, very attentive, friendly and informative.
The quality of the food is excellent, though the variety is considerably limited compared to the Chicago location. I particularly love their sausage and bacon - my boyfriend and I call it God's bacon. Thick-cut, carmelized and smoky - it's almost like eating a softer version of a honey-baked ham crust. It's amazing!
The parmesan crusted haddock (or sometimes cod) is excellent. I'm not a huge fan of cooked fish (though I like sushi, which they also have) but this fish has me going back for more. It's crunchy as well as flaky and tender.
Their sushi isn't really sushi-restaurant quality, but it's decent enough and I appreciate the fact that they offer it.
The dutch apple pancake pieces were amazing, I kept going back for more! And, of course, creme brulee for dessert. SO YUMMY!
These are just my favorites, there are considerably more options. But next time I will pay $14 more to visit the Chicago location.
Our first time coming in for Brunch - we were so impressed! The food was great, service was awesome, plates removed as soon as we were finished and going back for more. Plenty of food out and as soon as something was low, it was replaced with fresh. We will definitely be back for brunch - love what you get for the money and the pace is a bit slower, and quieter.
Our favorite for "Seafood at it's Best"! We chose bar seating for energy on a Friday evening after shopping. Busy, yet our server, Louis, was most attentive and professional and added to the experience. Food is excellent plus! Yes, it's expensive, but the high quality is worth the price. Can't wait to go again!
Unfortunately we went to the Sunday Brunch 1/2 hour before their last seating. Maybe if we had gone at an earlier time the food would have been fresh!! It was a shame. The food was so dried out some of it was inedible. The raw oysters and shrimp were actually very good. The sushi was obviously made in advance and was dried out as well. Very disappointing. For the price you pay for it ($45.00) you expect it to be flawless at any time !! Would not go back for it. However our Waitress was very attentive.
My husband and I have been to Shaw’s many times for brunch. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and he loves seafood. We have always enjoyed the brunch, but this past Sunday I was very disappointed. It was very different from whAt it used to be. The pancakes were ice cold, the bacon was very peppery, the salmon was dry, the omelet was flat and awful. There were no crab cakes and no beef. When we left I told the person who was getting our coats how unhappy I was and all he said was that he was sorry. We were so looking forward to coming to Shaw’s and left very disappointed. I do not think we will come back.
The Thanksgiving brunch was enjoyable. They did not overbook/overcrowd the Restaurant. The lobster bisque was the best I’ve ever had. There was a nice variety of dishes, along w/ the classic Thanksgiving staples. My favorite part was the dessert table. They had the classic fall pies & notable treats, such as raspberry pie, creme brûlée, Chocolate pots de creme, cupcakes, cookies, dipped apples, hot or cold cider & much more. The service was professional & friendly. Never did I feel like they were trying to turn the table over. Shaw’s exceeded my expectations. If I had one complaint, it would be that I wish coffee was serviced at the dessert table & included in the brunch price.
As always, service was impeccable. Our waiter was efficient, humorous, friendly and informative. His recommendations were spot on (my main course of scallops was absolutely delicious), although at the high end of the price range.
We ate in leisure, being under no pressure to leave, simply enjoying each other's company and the excellent food.
Wine by the glass is fairly priced anda good selection is offered.
As the name implies, this is a seafood restaurant and we have never been disappointed in the quality of the seafood on offer, nor its preparation.
We will continue to return as often as possible.
As always the food and service was outstanding. We were served by Barnaby and he was very knowledgeable, helpful, and charming as well. I had the parmesan crusted flounderover a bed of sauteed spinach and it was tasty and prepare just right. My wife had the surf and surf which was lobster and king crab legs. The crab legs were huge and very easy to crack and access the meat. All and all, if one is interested in great seafood dining, Shaw's is hands down one of the best place to go!
Took my wife out for her birthday. Spent over $400 on oysters, crab, and lobster and a few cocktails. All to be expected and had no problem spending the money. Only problem is halfway through our meal they sat a party of 10 obnoxious meatheads right next to us dressed in cutoff shirts who were very loud and really took away from the experience when I thought I was taking my lady out for a classy evening. Oh well. Lots of other restaurants out there to spend my money in.
