Shaw's Crab House - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
I travel to Chicago once a year and I always visit Shaw's at least once during the trip. The food is always fantastic, the staff is top notch, the service is fast, professional and friendly. Shaw's has it all! I only wish there were a comparable restaurant in my hometown.
Shaw's never fails to deliver a great dining experience. It is our go-to place for special family occasions, the impromptu drop in for dinner, and the terrific brunch buffet. Pricing is fair, food always properly cooked, with an emphasis on really fresh seafood and shellfish . Service is always friendly and professional.
Best brunch we ever had. We were celebrating a special occasion - "Appreciation Brunch" for my sisters, brothers-in-law and niece, who help us year after year, babysitting our "Twinkies" (3 year old twin grandsons )!
Atmosphere was exciting...food smelled delicious as we walked into the restaurant. Everybody had a great time and our private room was perfect. The food was amazing and the Alaskan King Crab legs were great but some were small. My favorite was the Belgium Waffles (yum!), au gratin potatoes, "Rita's eggs (wow! best scrambled eggs I ever had, fluffy and so tasty, I didn't need any seasoning. ) The oysters, shrimp and sushi were perfect. Although I was full, I had to try the desserts: the Pot de Crème and Crème Brule couldn't be missed - and Do-Rite donuts, my sisters love those donuts!! Great coffee - hot and delicious! Lobster bisque was excellent. I loved everything and want to go back again soon!!
My girlfriend & I had a great dining experience. The young woman at the hostess station was somewhat curt when we checked in for our reservation. Other than that, we had exceptional service. Our waiter was friendly & efficient. Our food was delicious. I had the Alaskan Red King Crab legs & they were scrumptious - pricey but worth it. She had the seafood sampler & loved it. We’ll be back again.
I brought a date who had not been to Shaw's. She is from Chicago, and I am from DC. I have been many times and just love the place. My date did too. Call me if the place ever considers closing - it is a landmark that should be around in 200 years like a couple of good old spots in Boston. Many thanks!
We went out to dinner before seeing Wicked on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated immediately in the fine dining section. We had awesome wait staff, delicious appetizers and bread, and a pretty darn good passion fruit drink. The crab and oysters were perfect. It was all so good we even had a dessert sampler with key lime pie, raspberry pie, creme brûlée and cheesecake all sooooo good we will definitely go back the next time we stay in downtown Chicago!
We have been patrons of Shaw's before and never had an issue but this time was so unfortunately disappointing. ALL our food that came to the table was cold.. The soup, the sauteed spinach, cauliflower and my fish dish.. we were so disappointed and I would have sent it back or said something but our server rarely came back to the table so I just said lets just finish and go home..Also, the $28 King crab bites were not worth $28.. the pieces were small and the crab meat was not good..
The food was spectacular and service good as usual, however the food stations were really spread out this year, and we were all the way in the back of the back room, so it wa a long walk to the food. Seemed liked more tables too this year, too many in my opinion and too crowded. I’d like to see less tables and buffets closer together.
We really enjoyed this place. It is a seafood house in the classic style, reminiscent of the supper clubs of the 30's and 40's. Everyone was friendly and comfortable to be around, attentive and just plain pleasant but professional. The food was fabulously prepared. The scallops were, without exaggeration, the best I have ever had. This was how scallops were always meant to be I think, buttery, sweet, full texture, perfect preparation. My girlfriend had a lovely tuna dish, and the sprouts and sauteed spinach sides were prepared just right. A couple nice cocktails, a fine dinner here, then off to a show or piano bar makes this a perfect evening. Classics are classic for a reason.
This is my favorite place for weekend brunch. I love that they added Saturday Brunch. Everything about this place is consistent, the food, the service, other patrons. Always a good time whether meeting with a small group or dining with one other person. I love this place!
This was our second time at Shaw’s brunch and again it was phenomenal! The manager Kevin added to our wonderful experience. The service was friendly and overall great. Already can’t wait to go back again. Unlimited crab legs, oysters and sushi...yes please!
