Shaw's Crab House - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed, seating was delayed restaurant seemed overwhelmed, my wife’s fish was partially raw. Wine service was poor glasses were left empty. Asked for additional rolls which were never received. Took two tries to get simple drink orders correct. Consider this a very overrated restaurant. If the reservation would have been earlier maybe they would have been less overwhelmed.
We found Shaw's on open table and not being from the area, didn't know what to expect. We got a reservation and what a treat it was! Service was fantastic, fun atmosphere - old time supper club/seafood place with lots of wood paneling and character. The food was really good - quality seafood, some unique preparations along with classic dishes. The lobster bisque was very good, my founder stuffed with crab was perfectly cooked and flavor-full. My dining mates were equally happy with their meals. It was a fun and relaxing dinner. It's on the expensive (maybe not for Chicago?), but worth the money paid for a special occasion.
We selected Shaw's for a group dinner because of the sushi, seafood and steak options. We are frequent diners in all sorts of restaurants. Shaw's does have a very nice dining room and attentive servers. Calamari is $16, good but not the best we've ever had. Double the price of other restaurants. Entree selections are very nice, pricey, and good, but not incredible. Filet on one order of surf and turf, ordered Medium Rare, came out well done on half of the steak. It was replaced with another one upon mentioning this to the server. Sushi was ordered by one of us. Freshness was good, until one roll was found with a hair in it....yes, turned off the appetite of this diner. Replacements were made and items comped, but still made it impossible to eat after that. Three entrees, 2 cups of soup, 2 appetizers, 5 drinks, $450 even with the comped sushi rolls.
Celebrating my fiance birthday, everything was great until she was got trap in the women's restroom stall. The staff handle the situation and Manger on duty showed empathy and very apologetic. Also our Waiter was very helpful and accommodating as my fiance wasn't quite ready to eat and just wanted to enjoy the band.
Absolutely amazing service. The food was nothing less than a dance to my tastebuds. I signed up for their email before I traveled to Chicago and they offered me a $25 discount on my $165 bill which was such a nice gift for my birthday. I will be back and I will let everyone in St. Louis know their name. If I have to be a critic I will say that it could be slightly updated and tables further apart for more privacy. Overall, it was great! Thank you!
Very good seafood and service in classic old Chicago style fine dining with red leather booths and white tablecloths. Nice wine list with some good values. Only complaint was that the hostess wouldn’t seat the table until everyone was at the hostess stand even though the only missing persons from our table of 8 were two who were parking the car. The restaurant is in a busy area without convenient self parking options, so it took several minutes to complete the full party and get seated.
Some of the best seafood I’ve ever experienced. Tables for two are a bit small and closely spaced so it’s hard to have an intimate conversation. The service from the staff is top notch and we were left wanting nothing. Expect to pay at least near $200 for drinks, appetizers, meal and dessert.
