Shaw's Crab House - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
The Oysters Rockefeller rock! And so did the service. We had the oysters, gumbo and lobster bisque soups, and caesar salad with crab cake. The chef kindly split the salad for us, so we my husband and I didn't have to argue on Valentine's Day! A lovely and delicious experience all around.
Reservation was moved back due to travel issues, and the hostess was extremely accommodating. Our server was very polite and formal but somewhat stiff in explaining the menu. He did describe the shimp/lobster fettuccine to perfection. Another delicious meal at Shaw's.
I have been dining at Shaw's since the late 1980's. I love it for dinner or lunch. The seafood selection is outstanding and everything is good. It's amazing how the interior has been so well maintained. Our table ordered haddock, mahimahi, and a combination plate. I am usually skeptical about combination plates. Something is bound to be better than something else, but the shrimp, scallops and crab cake were all excellent. And we love the mini desserts - a great option.
I have been to Shaw's for brunch several times and have never once been disappointed. The food is consistently fantastic, and the service is always top-notch. The brunch is worth every penny, although you might want to schedule a nap afterward to address the food coma! All jokes aside, Shaw's is a wonderful restaurant that provides a wonderful experience, start to finish.
We like Shaw’s, so we made a reservation for our 35th wedding anniversary. We were looking forward to eating the crab legs, which are no longer included in the buffet at the Schaumburg location. The first serving we received was fair - one segment of large leg, the rest were small (more shell than meat). When we returned for subsequent servings, we no longer received large segments, only small ones. Disappointing, we won’t be returning for the grand crab buffet.
I was so disappointed in this Chicago institution that I had heard so much about. The hostess was not welcoming and friendly, and couldn't seem to locate my reservation until I pulled out my phone. I was "dismissed to the side" to wait and given a cold shoulder. The shell fish was great and fresh. My ceasar salad was dry and not flavorful and I didn't eat it. My husband had the mahi and it was overcooked and dry and he didn't finish it. Table service was inconsistent and we were always looking for our waiter. We ordered dessert and it was uninspiring. I would not go back.
Always great food and the best key lime pie in Chicago as far as we are concerned. The table where we were seated was close to a pillar and another table. One of our guest was bumped into several times by different servers and finally by our waiter ( that one was a real jolt! ) We couldn't have moved the chair in any closer to our table. That took away from our experience. Next time ( and there will be a next time ) we might request a different table.
We went to Shaw's based upon its reviews. It more than lived up to its reputation. The food was excellent and the service superb. I asked if it would be possible to order fried oysters which are not on the menu. The answer was not only yes but they were the best fried oysters ever! And I have had a lot of fried oysters.
