Shaw's Crab House - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Even if you Don't believe in the aphrodisiac power of oysters the place worth a visit.
Walk down the street and cross the threshold of an ambiance e that could deserve the plate Al Capone ate here.
Wooden, leather, dimmed light and jazz music are the right accessories to a menu that offers the best of classic "surf's and "turfs".
Everything served on impeccable white linens by courteous staff.
If you like a little bit more of speak-easy feeling, step into the oyster bar.
Don't waste your money on the Sunday Brunch. The food was terrible! For $60 a person, you can go to a different restaurant and get a gourmet meal. The draw for me in the first place was the King Crab Legs, but they might as well have been snow crab from Red Lobster. They are small and although already open somewhat, you really have to fight to get the little bit of meat out. Other items were just overcooked and bland except for the tenderloin which was really red.
I like my steaks medium, but I guess some people like to eat red meat that is practically raw inside. T he only good thing I ate was the cold shrimp. Also, no breakfast potatoes, they serve tater tots. If you get seated in the room that is not near the bar, you have to cross the hostess stand to get to the most of the food, so you are running into people that are arriving as you are trying to carry a plate of food to your table. Whoever is running this place really needs to rethink the layout for the Sunday Brunch and also improve the quality of the food!! I can't stand that we spent $200 for such crappy food.
Great place to dine. Celebrated my wife's birthday. Super good experience, enjoyed some fresh oysters and a drink at the oyster bar before dinner. It is obvious that many people agree that this is a fantastic restaurant as there were plenty of people waiting in the lobby. We had reservations and would suggest the same to others. Service was second to none through out our dining experience. Definitely recommend to everyone.
Fabulous Service with a smile by server 413
Brunch was fabulous and the King Crab legs were amazing. We have eaten many times over the years at Shaw's, however had not tried the brunch. We will be back with friends and family - we may need to diet for two weeks prior, but oh it will be so worth it. Thanks for a great brunch!
I thought that I had made a mistake walking to the restaurant... the location is not very pretty, but after stepping in the front door, I was delighted! The restaurant is divided into two parts. There is a lively and charming oyster bar on one side and a more elegant restaurant on the other. The menu is vast and the food absolutely fabulous. Service impeccable. Without a doubt the best meal we had in Chicago.
Sunday brunch is a splurge at $59pp, but well worth it. Steamed crab legs, lobster bisque, and various shrimp dishes were out of this world. Great salads. Maki rolls were okay. Breakfast selections were great. Desserts were delicious. Perfect for a special occasion. Go back to the buffet as often as you like...coffee, juice, and other n/a drinks are included. Bloody Mary was very good ($10). Excellent service from our server.
My wife and I were in Chicago for Parents' Weekend at our son's college. We treated him and three of his friends to Sunday brunch here. Sensory overload. The buffet is extravagant and delicious. Start with the seafood buffet in the Oyster Bar, but limit your portion sizes so you can enjoy as much of other decadence as possible. Love the Do-Rite Doughnuts! Our server, Kathleen, was friendly and attentive. We all had a great experience.
Shaw’s is our go-to place whenever visiting Chicago. The seafood menu is incredible. I love stone crab claws and can get them in the Midwest in November. I also had the haddock which was very well prepared. My husband had a seafood medley that he enjoys every time we are here.
I love Shaw's and have been many times before but my experience this time was just ok. Our table was way in the back corner and it felt like our table was in trouble LOL, we had to send one of our steaks back because it wasn't cooked right, and the waiter was ok. I hope my next visit is much better than my last visit.
Outstanding food and service on a Saturday night with several great friends. Everyones dinner was Great from the salads to seafood to sushi, plus a special request from one of our guests to prepare something not on the menu. The waitress was Great the entire time. Everyone was extremely satisfied. Cant wait to return with our friends
This is the second time I have had a business dinner here and the second time somebody in the group ended up not feeling well that night/next day. we had one bad oyster we noticed (smelled) and when we told the waitress she said they "normally catch those". The seafood was OK, but not as good as expected for a crab house. Based on the last two experiences, we will not be booking anymore meals here.
