Shandies Ratings and Reviews
Just ok. Appetizers were pretty good but the main courses, not so great. I got the beef medallions and my husband ordered a steak. Both were just ok. We ordered our first drinks and my wine was not good. Not sure what I expected for $7 but that was about all they offered. My husband ordered a drink and they brought it with no ice. Which was weird. He ordered a second drink and it never came. Probably would not go back.
Server was very friendly however it took way too long for us to get our order placed. We were there well over an hour and they only served me one drink. I would have ordered a few more but they never came back to the table until we finished eating. There were only two of us so not like it was a large party. Steak was under cooked but again I didn't have a chance to send it back because server never came back until it was time to have the check and food was cold.
Our server was terrible! The mac & cheese was cold, meatloaf somewhat warm and warm green beans. That was my husband meal and my meal BLT was good but cold fries. Our server had to be in her twenty, she called my husband & myself hun each time she came to our table. Now I am a 54 year old southern woman and I know when a person is saying hun as southerner or is a fake. (Fake!). Oh! not to mention we ordered wine, the first bottle she returned with was wrong then the second bottle they didn't have and finally the third bottle was a twist top (thank goodness) because she left it on the table without opening or pouring it for us. We still tipped because I can't be rude, because I'm southern.
Our server was terrible. Everything took longer than it should have (I was a bartender, waitress, and restaurant manager for years and she did not offer a valid explanation other than she usually bartends). Our food came out cold and you could tell it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. It took our waitress several trips to get our drink refills correct, silverware so we could eat, and the condiments we requested. And rather than be concerned that my sister had barely touch her catfish because it was cold, our waitress informed that she would take the leftovers home to her cat when we didn't want a togo box.
Our two other companions had eaten at Shandies previously and said they were not impressed, but didn't tell me that when I decided to make our reservation. I wish they had. We would have gone somewhere else and perhaps gotten our $100+ worth.
One positive note was that the atmosphere was nice which allowed us to talk easily and with relative privacy. But that's not enough to make me recommend Shandies to friend or family.
Oh, and we were able to learn a valuable lesson in the importance of NEVER parking on the street on Broadway. We watched more than one car bump off the car behind them as they tried to park and/or leave without so much as looking to see if damage was done or leave a note.
Started with the amber shandy (lemonade mixed with beer) and the cat cakes. My husband had the ribeye steak and I had the catfish dinner. We chose the greens, mashed rutabaga and Mac and cheese for our sides. Everyone MUST have the mac and cheese. It's the best I've ever encountered. This is truly the best restaurant in Paducah.
Reserved a table for Shandies because I was in Paducah for the solar eclipse. WOW was I disappointed. The food was average, at best, and the price was very high. AND, to top it off, they didn't have 3 of their "specialty" side dishes...our reservation was for 5:30 p.m. really? out of food already?
We came here for the eclipse, so, needless to say, Shandies was very crowded! Service was good, even so. I ordered an upscale BLT, and ate every morsel of it. One of us ordered the meatloaf sandwich; I've never seen such a large portion. Fried green tomato appetizer was outstanding. Very satisfying, overall, and a prime location.
Several people in our group ordered the meatloaf and it was delicious. I ordered the 8 oz fillet with a butter sauce that was equally delicious. The creamed rutabaga was very good and the macaroni and cheese was a favorite as well. I feel you couldn't go wrong with any item on the menu. I hadn't ate here in a while and was pleasantly surprised. The waitress was very friendly and did a great job attending to all our needs. Will definitely return.
Hostess was not friendly at all. Our waitress, Susie was great but a large party upstairs made our meal really slow in getting to us. I did state on my reservation that it was an anniversary for my friends but evidently, Standish doesn't do anything to recognize special occasions. I never order meatloaf but it was really good. Cat cakes were my favorite item.
Seated promptly, had reservation from Open Table, our table was set with menu, appetizers were excellent - French Onion Soup & Deviled Eggs.....
Entrees - Meatloaf stuffed w/ Bacon & Gouda Cheese ,, superb; Pork Medallions ,, tender and flavorful; sides - MAc N Cheese, creamed corn, roasted asparagus - all excellent....
Desserts - Crème Brule - excellent
First time at this restaurant, in an old historic building in downtown Paducah. They have done a great job in preserving the past. Restaurant was busy when we arrived with reservations. We were seated quickly at a desirable table. Our server was pleasant and greeted us within 2 minutes. Wife and I both ordered the catfish, which was delicious, it came with 2 sides, one of which was very good and the other neither of us ate. It was some kind of cooked greens. The server did not tell us upon ordering we would substitute and of the sides, I overheard from another server. Except for this one issue with the server, I highly recommend this place.
This was my third time to eat at Shandies. The other two were marginal but this time it was poor. Entering the restaurant on a cold breezy day, the restaurant was freezing. Nothing like being cold through dinner. Our waiter was attentive and tried. We each ordered something different. My husband's meal was ok, pork medallions. I had the french dip and other guest had BLT with gouda cheese. The worst of all was the French Onion Soup. It was served tepid warm with no cheese or toated bread on top. A few strings of cheese were found in the soup. It had a terrible taste and too spicy. Next time, I will go elsewhere.
A group of friends went to the Michael Bolton concert, so we decided to eat at Shandies for the convenience of the closeness of Carson Center. A few of us enjoyed a mixed drink. They were very nice and let us split our meal because the portions are so large. Most of us had the meat loaf, mac & cheese and roasted potatoes, and we enjoyed it so much. Mac & cheese was delicious. We all will definitely go again.
Ate there twice and both times it was excellent. First time we did not have a reservation and they found us a table with in minutes as to other places turned us away with a lot of open tables. Second time had reservation and had specific instructions and they were followed to the T.
