Co-owners and chefs Aaron Israel and Sawako Okochi created a menu that combines both Jewish and Japanese cultures as well as fresh ingredients sourced from local markets. Plates, such as matzoh ball ramen with foie gras dumpling and sake kasu challah with raisin butter, are meant to be shared with the table for dinner. Visit for brunch and enjoy the lox bowl or pastrami-don.

Matzoh Ball Ramen
Teriyaki Duck Wings
There was just that little something extra that was missing, but id go back to give it another shot
I love this place and the service is exemplary. Will definitely be back.
We went on a Sunday evening. It was lovely. The ambiance of the restaurant is neighborly exotic, it has a warm, welcoming asian ambiance with a hint of pub. The Fauci-ouchi was an exceptional cocktail. We enjoyed the okonomyaki but more fried than expected in a traditional japanese manner and oilier than a potato pancake, so this wasn't a positive. The roasted vegetable were superb and the ramen was just the perfect marriage of Jewish and Japanese comfort foods. Well done all around.
Such delicious, creative, comfort food here. We managed to try about half the things on the brunch menu, and every bite was delicious. There were so many “why didn’t I think of that” moments when we saw the different elements of international cuisines combined. The staff was charming and attentive and made us feel like we were at home among friends. Love this place. Can’t wait to go back for dinner.
Everything perfect, except it was too cold outside
Amazing food. One of the few restaurants outside of my neighborhood I go back to again and again.
Will definitely come back!!!
We absolutely loved our dining experience. The food was delicious, the chef and staff were incredibly friendly and all of our food was great. We tried almost everything on the menu and enjoyed it all.
Our second meal there.....still outstanding food and great waitstaff!
Omg delicious. Every dish was a winner. Server was great with explaining as well as personable. We were early diners and it was of course not noisy. When we left at 7 it was full and understandably livelier. Will definitely go back.
The food here is always excellent and interesting. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city.
Matzoh ball ramen was fantastic, it is very hard to pull off a good chicken ramen and they did it. Uni nori toast special also a highlight. Strong recommend.
Made a reservation for my partner's birthday, we were excited as we are a Jewish / Asian couple and looked forward to trying out the food. We specified special occasion in the reservation. Was offered a seat outside (it was very cold and windy that day, and the outside heaters were only half on / not placed directly over the tables). The host was very rude and dismissive about it. Asked to be given a reservation for inside later in the day when he said they were available, and the host again was very rude about it, making a big fuss in front of all the other customers. Decided to head elsewhere for the night, will not return, do not recommend.
The dining staff seemed rushed - when our food was delivered with the wrong items, they were frustrated and annoyed that we said something. The new order took much longer and it was an uneven amount of time to wait for one persons meal.
Great staff, and unique fusion food. Definitely a good spot for a date night or if you're curious about a new take on Japanese (or Jewish) cuisine.
We loved our experience at Shalom Japan. Restaurant offers an interesting and original take on the blend of Asian and Jewish foods. We had the Jew Egg to start which was wonderful and then we enjoyed the Ramen and the Lox plate. A wonderful mix of flavors and textures. Ample out door seating. We would recommend Shalom Japan
Loved dinner at Shalom Japan last night. Amazing food. Friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend.
Incredible fusion dishes! Pastrami lovers rejoice!
Love this place, 2nd time I'm there and it's even better than I remember.
The food was delicious. Highly recommend this place! The cocktails were also well done.
The food was top notch. The house smoked wagyu pastrami was better than Katz deli. And the chicken matzoh ball ramen was the comfort food of my dreams. We also ordered the “Jew egg sandwich platter” and it was divine. A creative take on the scotch egg with a perfectly jammy egg coated in falafel! The hummus was also incredible. Will definitely be back to sample everything else this menu has to offer! A truly brilliant mashup!
The food here was truly out of this world. Every dish we had was delicious; the matzah ball ramen gave me life back in my soul! Cannot recommend enough
Shalom Japan is good but not great. Not worth a trek but fine if you’re nearby. The food is not spectacular but it is interesting. Certainly not a bad meal, just not a memorable one.
Food was very overpriced for the quality and size, but the waitstaff was very friendly and knowledgeable
The staff had great personality, the food was unique and inspired, a great combination of Asian and Jewish cuisine. Would highly recommend a visit.
Service was excellent and it was a cute spot that was very unique. The food was exotic and special, but very hard to combine two incredibly different cultures and I think they did the best they could.
Incredible food and service as always!
A lovely unique and high end experience that is great for any special occasion.
Fun place to eat at. Interesting menu
Had the matzoh ball soup. It was so good I got extra noodles! Highhhly recommend
Food itself was very tasty; starter portions particularly small and pricy; not great bang for buck
Always remarkably delicious. They are very talented. So good, I always leave in a far better mood.
A great meal, very interesting food, we shared three dishes all of which were tasty and well presented. The Jew Egg was a highlight. A couple of drinks as well both of which were fantastic.
Service was quick and friendly. We will be back to try other items on the menu.
One and done
Amazing food, service and atmosphere!
Our evening was absolutely wonderful. The staff is so friendly and my date and I felt so well taken care of. My on wish is for the Tuna Tataki to come back on the menu.
Service at first was good we were served main then forgotten about. Had to wait longer than expected for more water. Coffees were served without milk or sugar. By that time coffees went cold. All the while waiter was in kitchen hanging out. Not returning or reccomending
Fantastic staff, excellent food, good playlist. What more can you ask for?
One of the waiters is extremely rude. Ruined the experience.
Unique fusion of Jewish and Japanese cuisines.
