Shalom Japan
Co-owners and chefs Aaron Israel and Sawako Okochi created a menu that combines both Jewish and Japanese cultures as well as fresh ingredients sourced from local markets. Plates, such as matzoh ball ramen with foie gras dumpling and sake kasu challah with raisin butter, are meant to be shared with the table for dinner. Visit for brunch and enjoy the lox bowl or pastrami-don.

Great food! Great service! Love this place.
The whole experience was very rushed and we left hungry. $500 for 2 people, did tasting menu and they brought 2 courses at the same time. Outdoor dining was freezing bad heater situation. Gave us a different dessert than what was on the menu at the end and it was nasty. Not enough food and terrible value for what we got.
Loved the prefix valentines brunch menu, and the start were charming.
food was unique and delicious! staff was friendly and atmosphere felt safe- would definitely recommend!
Food was fantastic!!! Service was very attentive. We had almost everything on the menu. The stand out favorites were the challah and pastrami!!! Can’t wait to go back!
Ramen. With pork. Warm, filling, amazing! Also the chirashi. Our waiter was lovely!
We had a great outdoor dinner. Excellent food, cocktails and wine; and even better service. We will be back!
Great food and service!!!
Fantastic experience with their Christmas Prie-Fix menu. The food was delicious and an amazing, unique encounter with Jewish-Japanese Fusion. The staff were so friendly and attentive as well. I'm definitely wanting to come back in the near future to see what their seasonal/special menu is like!
The food was delicious and really interesting! The service staff were very kind and keen to help us however they could.
the food was really great- we loved trying to decipher which part was Jewish and which part was Japanese! Love the mix of flavors. The staff were very friendly and we felt very safe (and warm) eating outside.
Shalom Japan has a nice outdoor eating area with heaters so I felt both safe and warm. The food was delicious, definitely recommend the okonomiyaki latke and matzoh ball soup ramen. Definitely recommend!
Went in the winter during Covid19. Heated outdoor seating but still pretty chilly when it's windy. Bring a blanket. Food is excellent and worth the cold!
Wonderful food as always. They have. A good outdoor set up with overhead heaters.
Everything was amazing. New favorite nyc restaurant !
Shalom Japan is one of my favorite restaurants in all NYC! It’s so yummy and I really appreciate all the precautions they are taking. From everyday dining to a date night, it’s a great spot. Love it!
Scallops and okonomiyaki appetizers were excellent. The matzo ramen was pretty salty but still good!
I liked the simplicity of the menus and authentic fusion of both cultures. The waiter recommended a great main dish, and the deserts were great.
Great place! Very unique, delicious food! Wonderful service.
Outstanding! The scallops are one of the best dishes....ever.
Broccoli, challah, Waygu pastrami sandwich and Japanese hot pocket are off the charts.
Save a little room for the bread pudding. Game over!
Service was superb.
Favorite restaurant in NYC.
We love Shalom Japan. The food and the service is always incredible. So happy to have it in the neighborhood!
Love Shalom Japan! Amazing service and ambiance. I LOVED the scallops dish!
Always enjoy coming here! Great service and food!!!
A true gem. Creative, unique, fabulous fusion cooking on a neat, hip Brooklyn Street. Wonderful staff. Not to be missed.
Incredible service with such kind and fun people! The food was delicious and unique :)
This restaurant has good food, good ambiance and great service.
Server was super attentive. (We actually had two so very well taken care of!) We had the maztoh ball soup ramen, really good. Make sure to get the scallion pancake for the table!
Shalom Japan was recommended by a friend & it exceeded expectations! Everything was delicious & had unique flavor. The service was welcoming & attentive. They also have some heated seating for outdoor dining! I will absolutely be going again soon!!
Delicious food - even cant stop thinking about the challah bread! Great out door dining with social distancing
Exquisite food. Lovely service. I am always dreaming of returning if I'm not there dining.
Definitely a unique place! All the food was lovely - not amazing blow your mind, but still lovely! I suppose it's difficult to truly blend Jewish and Japanese flavors, so the end result is more like "themed" Jewish and Japanese. For example the matzah ball ramen just really tasted like matzah ball soup with the additives (ramen, scallions, egg) sitting in there. But hey, where else are you going to get this stuff? It's a novelty place, and novelty is what you get.
Other than the food, the servers were all super helpful, energetic, and knowledgable about their stuff! A nice experience, if perhaps a bit too expensive (for me, a cheapskate) to come back very often.
I love the vibe, the food and the service. I’ve gone with friends, family, my kids, and dates. Great for creative yummy food with no pretense.
Awesome food
I love Shalom Japan Rob and his team make August feel so welcome the food is so unusual so many different flavors and textures I am addicted
Traditional Japanese was seemingly fused with another cuisine in the kitchen. Was not expecting this..
Wow, I enjoyed everything about this place
Delicious food! Highly recommend the matzoh ball ramen and the burger for brunch :)
We had an amazing time! Great food! Excellent service!
The food was more than average. A rice paddy covered with a slice of smoked salmon isn’t really a dish...
Truly terrible experience.
We had a reservation at 6pm and arrived a few minutes late (called them to let them know). Our order had been entered into the system by 6:15pm. By 7:58pm we still had one course of the omakase, which is 5 courses, and the dessert to go. They took more than 25 minutes between courses (one of which was a salad - one salad - split between three people). The food was fine, but not excellent, and the concept didn't really come through. At 7:58pm, still hungry and waiting, we asked for the bill so we could leave.
At this point, one of my guests (who was inviting) was really upset and just signed the receipt, which was for the full (overpriced) cost. The waitress told us that if we had a cutoff time we should've let them know because omakase always takes 2hrs and 15 minutes (where is this rule? never heard it in my life). She said "when you come next time you should..." and my guest just said "I don't think there will be a next time" to which she reacted poorly. She then noted that a tip should be left regardless, because it's not the waiter's fault, which, I agree, but when service has been bad, the food hasn't been good and your customer service is garbage, I'm sorry but you don't get to demand *more* things from your guests. If you're sincerely concerned about your waiter, you will discount part of the meal and I know that my guest would've left a tip, but for $250 for 4 bite-sized pieces of food, one bowl of greens to share and sparkling water, that's a lot to ask.
I highly recommend you go somewhere else, especially in Williamsburg where there are so many great options.
