some of the servers are not very friendly or helpful with the menu.
We have been eating here for many years and have never been disappointed by a meal. Excellent food and an excellent value, too.
First time to Shalimar but an enjoyable evening. Competent service who ask about level of spice for the food orders.
Will definitely make a return visit.
I have dined at Shalimar several times in the past and always found both the food and service to be excellent. This time the food was good, but the service and attitudes of the wait staff and management were so bad that the entire experience was terrible. I will never dine there again.
Excellent food, excellent service. Very nice restaurant. Highly recommended.
From the staff, food, and restaurant display, dining at Shalimar will provide a direct experience with Indian culture. The staff was courteous and kind. The menu offers many options. Not vegan-friendly but vegetarians can dine comfortably. Price is very reasonable.
We enjoyed the food. We went during lunch and order off of the menu to take home as well. While the best way to get your moneys worth is to just eat the buffet. The plate that we took home was expensive and the portion was not as big as i thoight it was going to be.
The food was absolutely amazing. The appetizers and mains were all very authentic and presented in a traditional fashion, with all the plates in the middle of the table. The food was truly delicious.
On top of that, it is a family run restaurant that they clearly pour their hearts and souls into. The service was impeccable and they want you to really enjoy your experience there. They don't just treat you like a transaction to make money, but instead treat you like a guest. Overall, a fantastic experience.
I eat here often! Food is always good, but esp. good this night! Service was great, & I loved the vegetable korma that was recommended! Thank you!
It was my birthday and I'm a vegetarian. Wonderful food and staff!
Shalimar has wonderful curry dishes that can be adjusted for a desired level of spiciness by telling the waiter mild, nedium or hot. I really enjoyed the Lamb Korma.
This restaurant is always clean and the customer service and food are excellent.
I have never had a bad meal at Shalimar. However, their lunch price is now out of my range ($11). A better value when it was under $10.
Great service as usual. They graciously accommodated our ever expanding party. The food was fresh and plentiful. My parents are regulars here so it was nice to be greeted as valued guests. If you know you will have a big group, making a reservation is key.
The food and service were both excellent! We had a party of 8 and the food arrived quickly and hot! It was a perfect ending of a special occasion.
Our dining experience was delightful. The food was superb and the service was exceptional. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We will definitely dine here often.
Have enjoyed the restaurant many times over, always pleased with both the food and ambiance. Authentic cuisine, fast service and excellent food. Many options, reasonably priced.
Staff did not seem to realize we had a standing reservation for 7 through Open Table. They had to prepare a table for six and fit in another setting and asked us several times for clarification of did we had a reservation and where did we make it.
The entire dining experience made for a great date!
I realized that I must not be a fan of Indian food. My guest and I.
Great restaurant for vegan or plant based diets. The service was great. Nice folks.
Service is excellent. Everyone is so kind and personable. And the food is AMAZING!
Reservation had requested seat away from the front entrance and away from the kitchen door. Both were accomplished. Noise level was low, food was excellent, service was also very good. I would not hesitate to go again.
This review is actually going to be quite simple. We had an appetizer of vegetarian samosas, then entrees of goat curry and house-recommended non-vegetarian Thali. The food was incredibly flavorful. Being able to dip rice in the various seasonings as well as having each seasoning flavoring a specific type of meat was absolutely delicious. Every bit of food was something I would gladly get again and again. Plus, the portion of each was definitely filling.
Apart from the food, the service was excellent - courteous and prompt but not overbearing. The decor and environment is okay, nothing great but also nothing bad. In general I would highly recommend Shalimar to anyone who likes Indian food; it is very much worth the trip.
This was not the Louisville restaurant we remembered from almost 10 years ago. My husband liked his curry lamb dish but my medley that was supposed to have seafood and lamb mostly had chicken and tofu. Plus we asked for a taste of the Indian white wine then another attendant gave us partial glasses of wine when we said we liked it. I was disappointed overall.
This is our favorite Indian spot in Louisville. It's a little fancier than other Indian places I have been to. The food is always good and we super love the naan choices. I would defiantly go back and eat to my heart's content.
If I could change one thing, I wish it was closer to where we live.
The masala was delicious; the swordfish in the tan doori grill was grilled to perfection; the naan was scrumptious; nicely served hot and quick; friendly wait staff
Nice relaxing place to have a very tasty and reasonably priced meal!
The naan is always great. Tikka Masala was amazing. I forgot one important option...bring your own alcohol! Not that it was necessary. Always a great visit!
One server was fantastic, the other was somewhat rude.
Wonderful food with very accommodating staff and good prices. Very nice, upscale atmosphere.
If you want a quiet place to visit with someone while eating delicious Indian food then this is your place. The service is wonderful.
Service was good, but the food was rather bland and the chicken tikka was a bit salty. I've definitely had better Indian food...
Great place for a party, we requested the private dining room which was quiet and fit our group very comfortably
Love the food love the staff. I always Enjoy my time here. The samosas, lentil soup, garlic naan, Briyani, and saag are a few favorites. The chi tea is the best in town. I'll go back soon!
I am not from Louisville but a big fan of Indian food having lived in NYC. This place is the real deal and a great value. I can't wait for my next trip to Louisville. The service was great. The place was clean. And the food was great.
Shalimar is my favorite Indian restaurant in town. Always great service and always great food! Since I am somewhat of a regular, the server(s) already know my favorite (Chicken Tikka Massala) and are very attentive. Would also recommend this place for larger groups, families, and for their lunch buffet and categering!
Shalimar has been one of my regular places. Whenever I have the urge to have Indian food, it's the place to go. I enjoy their breads and all the dishes. Also, for the thrifty there are always coupons that make it even more affordable.
This was my first time eating Indian food and it was an excellent experience. The service was excellent and the atmosphere great for an intimate conversation with my husband. I will definitely visit this restaurant again.
The food and service was outstanding. We have been here over a dozen times and keep coming back.
