Shalimar Indian Restaurant
Some restaurants are ideal for special occasions. Indeed we hope many of you, our guests, will celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other memorable events with us. But, at Shalimar we strive to make every lunch and dinner a special occasion for every guest.
When we open the doors to the restaurant for lunch, dinner or catering, it's as if we're opening the doors to our own homes and inviting guests to enjoy extraordinary food paired with a rich Indian lager beer or a glass of wine from our extensive wine list.
Our menu features the finest Northern Indian entrees and our specialty Tandoori (Clay Oven) dishes.
Shalimar is elegant, relaxed, and affordable, inviting guests to enjoy the hospitality that reflects our Indian heritage.
Always excellent there. And one of the managers was kind enough to get the University of Louisville basketball game on the TV for me. Everyone there goes out of their way to make dining at Shalimar an enjoyable experience.
Love Shalimar's food. Even my family loved their food and dessert. They are really picky eaters ( I have a 6 year old and a 10 year old) so I was surprised. Great prices, atmosphere, service and we didn't have a wait to get a table.
Food was just okay, and service was terrible. We had several servers, and they were all unfriendly.
Need more space where the buffet is when it gets busy.
Dined with friends , each of us bought wdrb gift certificates. There policy allows only one gift certificate per table! Even though we were separate couples! Read your fine print, under impression bread was served with meal & was charged an extra $5 for it. Portions were also very small.
Good food and value
Fantastic as always!
Food was delicious and authentic. Desserts were also very good. Will be going more often.
Always dependable and a great value for lunch or dinner
Always amazing buffet and regular waiters/customers. Food is always fresh.
Everything was great. One problem is the worn out vinyl seat in the booths. The vinyl is cracked badly, with the sharp edges poking on my skin when sitting down with a skirt or shorts.
Please fix the seats.
My husband & I opened our fast @ 9:07pm. We were treated very nicely, despite the late hour! The food was wonderful as always, esp the Bindi gosh! Thank you! 🤗🤗🤗
Excellent all around.
Our party of 10 was well cared for. The food was spectacular as expected.
Great as usual.
The cuisine here is a good representation of Northern Indian food- good but not great. We eat out at Indian restaurants once a week so are very familiar with Indian fare.
The service is lacking at this restaurant from the greeting at the front desk through the dining experience. It may be a training issue so that is fixable although we felt like the staff was just going through their motions at just barely passable service.
some of the servers are not very friendly or helpful with the menu.
We have been eating here for many years and have never been disappointed by a meal. Excellent food and an excellent value, too.
First time to Shalimar but an enjoyable evening. Competent service who ask about level of spice for the food orders.
Will definitely make a return visit.
I have dined at Shalimar several times in the past and always found both the food and service to be excellent. This time the food was good, but the service and attitudes of the wait staff and management were so bad that the entire experience was terrible. I will never dine there again.
Excellent food, excellent service. Very nice restaurant. Highly recommended.
From the staff, food, and restaurant display, dining at Shalimar will provide a direct experience with Indian culture. The staff was courteous and kind. The menu offers many options. Not vegan-friendly but vegetarians can dine comfortably. Price is very reasonable.
We enjoyed the food. We went during lunch and order off of the menu to take home as well. While the best way to get your moneys worth is to just eat the buffet. The plate that we took home was expensive and the portion was not as big as i thoight it was going to be.
The food was absolutely amazing. The appetizers and mains were all very authentic and presented in a traditional fashion, with all the plates in the middle of the table. The food was truly delicious.
On top of that, it is a family run restaurant that they clearly pour their hearts and souls into. The service was impeccable and they want you to really enjoy your experience there. They don't just treat you like a transaction to make money, but instead treat you like a guest. Overall, a fantastic experience.
I eat here often! Food is always good, but esp. good this night! Service was great, & I loved the vegetable korma that was recommended! Thank you!
It was my birthday and I'm a vegetarian. Wonderful food and staff!
Shalimar has wonderful curry dishes that can be adjusted for a desired level of spiciness by telling the waiter mild, nedium or hot. I really enjoyed the Lamb Korma.
This restaurant is always clean and the customer service and food are excellent.
I have never had a bad meal at Shalimar. However, their lunch price is now out of my range ($11). A better value when it was under $10.
Great service as usual. They graciously accommodated our ever expanding party. The food was fresh and plentiful. My parents are regulars here so it was nice to be greeted as valued guests. If you know you will have a big group, making a reservation is key.
The food and service were both excellent! We had a party of 8 and the food arrived quickly and hot! It was a perfect ending of a special occasion.
Our dining experience was delightful. The food was superb and the service was exceptional. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We will definitely dine here often.
Have enjoyed the restaurant many times over, always pleased with both the food and ambiance. Authentic cuisine, fast service and excellent food. Many options, reasonably priced.
Staff did not seem to realize we had a standing reservation for 7 through Open Table. They had to prepare a table for six and fit in another setting and asked us several times for clarification of did we had a reservation and where did we make it.
The entire dining experience made for a great date!
I realized that I must not be a fan of Indian food. My guest and I.
Great restaurant for vegan or plant based diets. The service was great. Nice folks.
Service is excellent. Everyone is so kind and personable. And the food is AMAZING!
Reservation had requested seat away from the front entrance and away from the kitchen door. Both were accomplished. Noise level was low, food was excellent, service was also very good. I would not hesitate to go again.
This review is actually going to be quite simple. We had an appetizer of vegetarian samosas, then entrees of goat curry and house-recommended non-vegetarian Thali. The food was incredibly flavorful. Being able to dip rice in the various seasonings as well as having each seasoning flavoring a specific type of meat was absolutely delicious. Every bit of food was something I would gladly get again and again. Plus, the portion of each was definitely filling.
Apart from the food, the service was excellent - courteous and prompt but not overbearing. The decor and environment is okay, nothing great but also nothing bad. In general I would highly recommend Shalimar to anyone who likes Indian food; it is very much worth the trip.
