Shalimar Cuisine of India Ratings and Reviews
As usual, we had a delicious dinner. We always love the chicken tikka- tender and very flavorful. We also enjoy a lamb dish that is served sizzling hot in an iron pot. The owner always makes the best recommendation when we can't decide or are looking to try something new. This time we tried a wonderful eggplant dish that I know will now be part of our dinner every time we go. We always order the aloo sag mushroom. We love the garlic and onion naan bread. There seems to be an infinite variety of great vegetable dishes. The service is great- attentive, anticipatory and polite but never overbearing. Shalimar has been a neighborhood staple for many years and is dependable and delicious.
Stumbled upon this place once, and then saw it again in OpenTable and knew that I had to write this review. This is hands down our favorite Indian food restaurant in the Valley. The family that owns it has been here for a long time and keeps it traditional. They also have some Pakistani dishes on the menu and everything is full of flavor and fresh. The wine list isn't too extensive, but the prices for a bottle are VERY good. Eat here if you want to have some awesome Indian food. Great spice and flavor profiles.
Delicious foods from a wide swath of India/Pakistan and who knows where else. Perhaps a touch rich for my taste, but the spicing was first rate! Wonder if they're going old school and cooking with lots of ghee.
Anyway, I'll be back to try more of the unusual dishes.
I was surprised to find this neighborhood gem. Shalimar is very small, yet its mirrored wall give the illusion of size. An army of employees give marvelous service, and food is presented elegantly. My wife and I ordered curry dishes, which were delicious and plentiful. The restaurant serves a limited selection of low-end wines. I would suggest bringing your own.
Found this local restaurant for Valentine's Day as husband loves Indian food and since new to the area used Open table and very pleased with the entire meal and service was outstanding…we booked early and glad as they got very busy later in the evening but we never fell/t rushed!
Shalimar has been in the West Valley for many years. The food is good for a local Indian restaurant but you wont find anything special on the menu. The service was very slow and as they were busy and they had no idea that a reservation was made through open table. I am not sure they even know they have it. Wont go back on a Saturday night again much better for a mid week lunch.
Being one that loves a good curry, I totally recommend this gem. The atmosphere was serene and cozy but the mirrors make it appear bigger so you don't feel closed in.
I had driven past a multitude of times not realizing it was there. the service was attentive and detail explanations given where necessary. They were able to tailor to our taste for each individual dish - and there were 6 of us!
I had a shrimp madras, egg fried rice and a parata. I like my curries spicey, it was spot on. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their lamb, beef and chicken dishes and the chicken byriani was also a hit.
Am looking forward to returning again!
My most recent Shalimar experience was very disappointing. The restaurant is remodeling and the workers were hammering while we were eating. We ordered samosa and Mullagatawney soup. Our main course was Tandoori fish for me and chicken tikka masala for my wife. I asked the type of fish but the waiter didn't know. The dinners came a la carte or full dinner. The full dinner was $4.95 added to the menu price. It included coffee or tea, rice, soup or salad, and a dessert of the day. We opted for the a la carte on the strength of the assurance that all dinners came with white rice. As it turned out, my wife's dinner did not. My fish was mushy. My wife's chicken sauce was very heavy and oily and the chicken was very rubbery and tough.
I don't often eat Indian Food but it was the requested specialty of the night. I've driven by Shalimar many times but never gone in. They made a small restaurant appear larger with many mirrors. Great smells await when you enter. We had the Chicken Tikka Massala and a Chicken Curry. Both were delicious along with some Garlic Spinach and Naan bread. Really all the food was delicious, the service was timely, the prices reasonable and we could hold a conversation with no overwhelming background noise to distract us. We arrived at 7:10 on a Tuesday night and it wasn't that crowded.
There are two other Indian restaurants in the same area, they're both better then this place. Food was ok, but the other restaurants have much better. I love Indian food, so Im usually biased. Horrible service, the waiter made it pretty clear he didn't want to be there.
Will never come back
I've been coming to Shalimar for over 20 years, so I think it's safe to say that I really love their food. They are by far the best Indian restaurant I have found in the Valley and I've never been disappointed with their food. They've recently altered their cooking style to make it a little healthier, and while the food quality has suffered a tiny bit, I think it's a good move overall, and will definitely make me eat there more often.
