Food is incredible. Service was outstanding. Have not ordered anything that wasn't delicious. Pounding club music major drawback. You cannot have conversation while you dine. We eat there in spite of the LOUD music.
The food was decent. The noise level was so loud for a 6pm dinner that we couldn't hear each other speaking.
Delicious food, great service. Could eliminate the downtown club music pounding on a Monday night. Also wish people would respect the beautiful setting and not wear ripped jeans and baseball hats. Generous portions served almost instantly after ordering.
The food is fantastic. It is a nice interior space. The music was loud and kind of night clubby. Our server could have been a little more attentive, he rarely checked on our table. Overall, a great place to eat
We had reservations for dinner but did not actually dine at Shakou on 5/11. My husband and I have eaten there several times and are very fond of the food and the atmosphere so we and made reservations looking forward to a quiet relaxing evening with our son and daughter in law. As soon as we entered the restaurant we all commented on the loud thumping music. We asked to be seated in the quietest area possible so we were seated near the fireplace in the bar. The music was so loud we had to practically yell across the table to hear one another. I asked the hostess if there was a quieter table (no) and if the music could be turned down a little (no). The hostess was extremely polite and accommodating but said there was nothing they could do. I could understand if it was 9 or 10pm but it was 7pm on a Sat night and we were expecting music that would be more in keeping with a dining atmosphere, not a dance party. Regretfully we decided to leave and informed the hostess that it was just too loud and not at all relaxing. We went down the street to the The Tavern where we spent $300 on food and drinks. I am writing to inform you that it was only due to the music that you lost our business on Sat night. We hope to return to dine again but will not be doing so as long as the music is played SO loudly. I realize that we are in our 60's and our taste in music might differ from your target audience, but our kids are in their 30's and it was too loud for them as well. I do hope you will consider toning the music down during peak dining hours so your guests can enjoy BOTH your food and the company of their dining companions.
Too loud, I wanted to go to dinner not a nightclub. Could barely hear my fiance to have any sort of conversation.
Family get together
Good selection but very noisy and a bit pricey for what you get.
Excellent restaurant, great food and service. A little dark as to my taste but some like it that way, trendy looking.
I like Shakou. My family really enjoys the variety and quality of the sushi and I can always count on a perfectly prepared steak teriyaki.
Fresh fish, wonderful food, beautiful decoration and very good service.
The food and service was excellent. I was not a huge fan of the volume of the music, but that's a small price to pay for delicious sushi.
We ordered the sushi boat for 4 people and surely it was enough to fill us all up! There wasn’t much people there which was perfect because we did not have to wait too much time for our food. Service was ok, we were a big table I get it. Wish we would have been checked on a tad more. We were left there for a couple minutes without being checked on especially refilling our drinks. Other than that the food was delicious, the ambience was great, and the hostess was very welcoming when we came in and left.
Everything about this restaurant is good EXCEPT the music is too loud to try to have conversation. It sounds like you’re in a dance club rather than having dinner. And it is consistently too loud. Wasn’t just this visit
The food was fabulous. And the music was at a more acceptable level from the last tome we were here.
Dance club music level was far to loud. Had to practically shout to have a conversation. Nice place and sushi was good but noise level was too much.
Nice place with excellent food but little noisy and to much young kids walking around. Also makis needs to be more consistency and do not breakers easily
The host station seemed rushed and not very friendly. Brought us to the wrong area and seemed very confused.
Every other service was great.
Fresh. Amazing recipes. Fast and upbeat. I thought I was having good sushi until I had it here. No comparison. Will be back for sure!
We came in for our adult daughter’s birthday! Have been to Shakou before and have so enjoyed our experience......however, this time the music was very loud Club music all during our drinks and dinner.....which I have never experienced before during our dinners. We asked the waiter several times if they could turn down the music......but it was never turned down. It was so hard to talk because we could no hear each other!!! The waiter did say at one point that the manager liked this music......
My thought is the patrons are the reason the restaurant survives.....
The atmosphere , food and service were all very good. We went for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful night. The music is much too loud for a restaurant though. You can barely hear the person across the table.
Great ambiance and music!
Food and drink were great as always. I only have two complaints:
1 - Cold air blowing on us - I had to put my coat over my shoulders to stay comfortable.
2 - Loud music - we are sr citizens and are probably the only ones to complain about that.
I love your restaurant. It is my number one choice in Libertyville!
We held a birthday party at Shakou Libertyville for our 18 year old daughter and 13 guests. The wait staff was great, the teens loved the private room and the FOH staff was very helpful. Thank you.
Food is amazing! The only thing I was not impressed with was the wait time for a table. We had a 7:30pm reservation and weren’t sat until 8:15pm. What is the use of a reservation if you have to wait 45 minutes.
Used open table for 7:15 reservation in a low table. Feel like they have my table away to someone else accidentally and then offered me a high table many times. Arrived at 7:00 pm and was finally seated at 7:30 pm. Tough experience for a date.
This was a father daughter date night and what a treat. This place was quite the sensory experience with the fairly loud music, beautiful decor, art & excellent bar. The restaurant is spread over two floors with high top & low top tables. It’s plenty big but seem very popular so reservations are a smart start. I’m not a big Sushi guy but loved their menu as the options were seemingly endless. Little dishes for tasting, big dishes for sharing, etc. As I said, not a big raw fish guy so if you aren’t into the raw thing don’t be intimidated as all raw dishes are clearly noted. The drinks were generous and the service was outstanding. It is a bit loud but my daughter and I were able to enjoy good conversation without having to yell. Oh ya, it’s an easy walk from the local Libertyville free parking facility. Give it a try, I’m pretty sure your gonna love it.
This is the best part in Libertyville, Food is amazing and all the people are so friendly
I really love the food here, but I wish the music was a bit toned down. We we're placed (with reservations) in the bar area with the high top tables (2 of us, table for 4). First, we couldn't have a decent conversation. The music was so loud and pumping around the area. Then, people kept trying to sit at the two empty chairs at our table. This was our RESERVED DINNER TABLE. Someone else thought is would be a good idea to set his discarded drinking glass on our table, and yet another couple stood so close to me that I couldn't move my arm. I couldn't wait to leave. When we walked outside I felt like I had been at a concert. I could hardly hear the rest of the night.
Good i had a great
We love it at Shakou. We always have fun. Whether its just my husband & I or when we bring friends. We love the food, so many choices. and don't forget the dessert.
Food was great! Our server was wonderful but the noise level was uncomfortably loud! 'Energetic' doesn't cover it. We were in a booth and the music was still very loud and prevented us from having our conversation normally. In the restaurant's defense, we did not ask them to turn the music down. It may be a factor in deciding to return:(
Spring Break Family time!
Great service and food was amazing!
Music was too loud to have a comfortable conversation with our friends.
This was our second visit to Shakou Libertyville. While it was not quite as good as the first time it is still worth dining here. My husband had the Bul Go Gi, while it was good we were expecting the meat to be more tender. I hide a side order of Potato Croquettes, served drizzled with bbq sauce, does not add to the dish. Crab sashimi was excellent as well as the udon dish. Service was superb. Will return.
Clean and greatly decorated
The spicy noodle salad with scallops and shrimp was DELICIOUS!!! Our waitress was attentive but not hovering which was perfect!
Shakou NEVER disappoints! The flavor and quality of the sushi was second to none. Great service and knowledgeable staff. A MUST TRY when in Libertyville.
Great food and environment overall... definitely awesome for a date night!
