Excellent service as always ....
Great service, excellent presentation, excellent taste!
This may be the best restaurant in the northern suburbs. If you like sushi, you're in for a treat. If you don't, there's plenty of other inspired choices on the menu. The atmosphere is fantastic. It's swanky but not clubby.
Great food and good service has good ambiance and good energy
It was awesome. Every part of the experience was great and worth the $$!
My boys get to pick their birthday dinner restaurant each birthday. My 12 year old picked Shakou. I put in the notes when I reserved that it was his birthday and could we have a nicer booth or a nicer table. We were put by the door which is cold in the winter. The hostess told the other host that it was my son's birthday and to let the server know. It obviously didn't stick. Our service was slow. I could see our food waiting and actually my sushi roll went to another table. So when our food came, I had nothing. She told me they were making it now. 10 minutes later, I had my roll. We asked for low sodium soy sauce....that took about 8 minutes along with my son's steak knife and ketchup....the only thing that came and went quickly was the check and her processing it....and not a word of my son's birthday. Not one word. I told the hostess and we were offered a piece of cake to go. Sad. Just sad. At least the food was delicious, even after the wait and waiting for utensils.
Great Sushi and other dishes for those not into sushi. Large menu. Very good noodle dishes and tempura. Downtown Chicago vibe. Good attentive service. Have been back several times and will continue to in the future.
Delicious food. Great service. Lovely funky decor. Great place to celebrate!!
Good service, very good food. The atmosphere was a bit noisy, making conversation a bit challenging at times.
The food is really good- we love the sushi and appetizers. It is definitely worth the drive!
We ordered the sushi boat and it was excellent! My teen daughter has now added sashimi to her list of favorite food. Server was very friendly and vibrant. We will definitely come back!
My favorite restaurant in downtown Libertyville! The food is great and very consistent and the drinks are amazing! I love the Chilean Sea Bass, it’s the best I’ve ever had! Service is always top notch and I have to mention the restaurant is beautiful! If you haven’t tried Shakou, make a reservation, you won’t be disappointed!
I have dined there before but was very disappointed. We were seated in a cramped table for two. The waiter was over anxious and hurried us and the noise level was very loud. We were celebrating a birthday and it did not live up to my expectations.
The food is excellent and the ambience very good. The only exception is that do not take specific requests when you make a reservation. They need to build more booths.
Absolutely fantastic meals. Exceptional wait staff. My only gripe is with the hostess, who directed all conversation to my wife, and basically made me feel like an accessory along to pick up the check.
Reataurant was overly busy and loud. Food was good...not outstanding. Waitress was good but she could have used some assistance. She was great but probably had too many tables. Desserts were awful.
I seriously love this place. The food is incredible, drinks inventive and delicious, and the place is gorgeous inside. They have hosted one of my big parties, and we have also been there with another couple... both were catered excellently!! The best!!
Family dinner for daughters 23rd birthday. Service was prompt & server was very knowledgeable & helpful. Food was delicious. Drinks were fun. EDM background music wasn’t to my husband’s liking, but my 20-something kids loved it.
I keep trying to love this location. But the Libertyville one is just not good. We saw our waitress once when she took our drink orders. Someone else brought them out. She took our sushi order and we never saw her again. Once again someone else brought the food out to us. Our order came out correctly. But the service here is terrible. And the sushi here is just okay. It’s nothing to write home about. I really they had better customer service here.
The noise level was way too high to visit with friends--constant pulse of the beat plus the actual music. The food was OK--steak ordered medium was very rare, but 3 other dishes were fine. Do not plan to visit again simply due to noise level.
The food was outstanding, and the wine was great too. I love the interior, beautiful decor. My only negative comment would be that it was a bit loud with the music going on upstairs.
I always enjoy the food and the atmosphere, I come here a lot! I usually come on a Friday or Saturday- I love the music, I need to find out what playlist they use. It’s also a great place to come if you want to get a drink!
Second time to Shakou..food great! Service not as great as our first visit... but oh well could have been an off night for our server... she seemed to have a lot of tables ... when booking reservation I indicated it was my sisters birthday and at check in they acknowledged it was a birthday celebration ... I didn’t think I’d have to do anything after that ... but no recognition of her birthday ... we traveled 35 minutes from Wisconsin for great dinner and we were not dissapointed ...just hoping for that extra special for my sister who has a toddler and doesn’t get out much but no there was none ... so I guess be specific if birthday celebration ... otherwise great atmosphere... great food ... ( music a bit too loud for conversation while dining)
Music was to loud, it was difficult to have a normal conversation. Every thing else was excellent.
Friendly waitstaff very good food some veggie sushi more of a special occasion kinda place to me. Loved the sake and the sushi
The food took a little time to come, but other wise the food was excellent. Honestly best sushi I’ve ever had!! I went for a valentines date with my boyfriend and this restaurant was recommended to me. I was not disappointed. Again food took a while, but worth the wait! I’ll come again!! Along with the service. She recommended some dishes too!
So much food!
Service, food, preparation always very much excellent. there are so many roll options as well as food for non-sushi lovers that everyone can find something great to eat!
Hostess was very unfriendly. Everything else was great
We have eaten here often This last time, the food was disappointing. Everything tasted the same.
Really had a great time at this restaurant....the wine and very good food was a part of that. Also our waiter was excellent! Very attentive, but also left us alone to enjoy ourselves, perfect combination! All in all, I would gladly recommend Shakou and would gladly go back there to dine!
Very disappointing. Made reservations almost a month ago for my boyfriend's birthday. We were both looking forward to trying it out. We arrived 10 mins before our reservation and were told by management at the hostess station that she was sitting us in the bar area. I said, "even with a reservation?" She responded very snotty with, "well, it's going to be a 45 min in wait then." We reluctantly took the high top in the bar area. 15 min after being seated we watch another couple come in and were seated promptly at a table in the dining area. I was furious. While sitting at our table, a party of about 10 crowded around the bar directly behind where we were seated. A rowdy group that kept knocking into my boyfriend who was trying to enjoy his birthday dinner. Horrible experience! Service was good by the waitstaff, food was mediocore and overpriced. Young children running around and music so loud, we could barely converse. I will never return.
The food was delicious as always. A little chilly in the downstairs so dress warmly. It feels like they still have the A.C. blowing even though it was snowing. Being cold even wearing a sweater is not fun when you are trying to enjoy your meal, especially sitting next to a ginormous window.
Terrific food, service, atmosphere. A+ My new favorite restaurant.
First time here.Food was excellent.Service was awesome.Great atmosphere
I enjoyed my evening but it is not an everyday place for me. It was loud - which can be fun! The food was very good but not cheap. We had a party of 5. Each person had an average of 1.5 cocktails. We split 2 rolls as appetizers and each person had a lower priced entree. With an 18% tip it was $52.00 a person.
Great food, nice atmosphere,we had a good evening.
Loved this place. Food is fantastic. The only think I don't like is the music is too loud to dine. We couldn't have a normal conversation. This was at 6:00!
First time there, it was a great atmosphere and food. I wish our waiter would have been a little more attentive to us. I would still recommend to friends.
Shakou is definitely a fan favorite. My fiancé and I really enjoy coming to relax and talk. It’s very private even though the floor plan is open because of the taste and variety of music and people talking. It almost has a club like feel as you walk in and sit at couches or a booth. 5 starts and will be a returning customer for a very long time. Not to mention the sushi and dishes are top notch 👌🏼
