I like Shakou, its an unexpected surprise in Libertyville. I am spoiled with my job as I am a meeting planner and stay at 5-star hotels all over the States.
Great service and very knowledgeable staff but the portions of sushi are unusually large and so that should be mentioned (I was entertaining someone from England too)- so two people that have a soup and then sushi do not need 3 difference sushi dishes, maybe share 1 or 2 - that should be mentioned to folks and the sushi is large but great, they do a fabulous job with it.
Unfortunately we were sat in the bar area and it was great until the next table had 3 loud girls that kept jumping off their chairs to take pics, not the restaurants fault but brushing against the table and stuff was very annoying.....been there numerous times, always good.
Quality food but slightly overpriced
I chose the most expensive items on the menu. Otherwise I think this place is overpriced and overrated. Although for that part of the country I guess it is OK. I prefer a more quiet atmosphere to dine in. The background music reminds one of being in the Caribbean resort. Just loud boom-boom music. Something soothing would be more appropriate.
Food is exceptional as always. Music is so loud, so it's nice to get up near the windows in a booth so it's easier to have a conversation.
Another fun visit to one of our favorite local venues. Excellent, drinks, food and environment - great vibe to celebrate a special occasion (birthday in our case). Always top notch!
I recently had my birthday dinner at Shakou (Libertyville) with my family & they were fantastic! First of all, my boyfriend needed to be accommodated to a lower seating (we were initially assigned the higher chairs) due to his recent surgery and they were very flexible in ensuring us a table. Our waiter answered all of our questions regarding the menu and provided suggestions based on our taste. The food arrived promptly and it the taste was spectacular--definitely will recommend for any sort of occasion!
The food is crazy amazing and the price is so reasonable
Great food, nice atmosphere
My biggest complaint is the tables are too small! Five of us at a table that could be setup for six left no room for drinks, water, dining plates/utensils and food. Sharing was very hard in cramped quarters. Music is too loud so I don't think iot is a good location for a date, intimate conversation. or a business meal. The food is very good. Plenty of good choices for every appetite. They did accommodate my request for a main floor seating and food restriction.
Service was attentive but maybe a little more time between courses. There is parking with handicap accessibility behind the restaurant.
Amazing as always!
Great food and atmosphere
This was our first time here and we were very impressed! The hosts and waitress were very friendly and accommodating and the food was fantastic. Arguably the best sushi and miso soup we've ever had.
The steak was underdone, sent it back, came back underdone again. Asked for medium and it was nearly rare both times. Otherwise, excellent good!! Very nice ambiance.
Fabulous as always!
Great food and service as all of the employees were very friendly.
Some of the finest Sushi north of downtown Chicago
As usual, staff and food were excellent. I highly recommend the braised short rib - incredibly tender and delicious.
As always Shakou has fresh food and we were not disappointed. We always try something new each time and again we were pleased with our waiter’s suggestion for our new dish to try.
Been there 2 times. Food was excellent. Seems like an interesting blend of Asia and American food
Excellent service as always ....
The music is too loud! And it isn't enjoyable. It's not a nightclub. That said, we both had fish and it was well-prepared and tasty and the crab cakes to begin with were very good. We would come more often if the music were different. We just don't like it.
Great service, excellent presentation, excellent taste!
Absolutely my favorite place for sushi, even compared to many amazing places in the city. The Libertyville location is one of the poshest looking restaurants I've ever seen, the sushi prep is phenomenally flavorful and fresh, and I have had nothing but stellar service every single time. I always look forward to returning to Shakou whether for a date, business meeting, or to catch up with friends. Never been anything but 10/10 and loved by everyone I've brought.
This may be the best restaurant in the northern suburbs. If you like sushi, you're in for a treat. If you don't, there's plenty of other inspired choices on the menu. The atmosphere is fantastic. It's swanky but not clubby.
Great food and good service has good ambiance and good energy
It was awesome. Every part of the experience was great and worth the $$!
My boys get to pick their birthday dinner restaurant each birthday. My 12 year old picked Shakou. I put in the notes when I reserved that it was his birthday and could we have a nicer booth or a nicer table. We were put by the door which is cold in the winter. The hostess told the other host that it was my son's birthday and to let the server know. It obviously didn't stick. Our service was slow. I could see our food waiting and actually my sushi roll went to another table. So when our food came, I had nothing. She told me they were making it now. 10 minutes later, I had my roll. We asked for low sodium soy sauce....that took about 8 minutes along with my son's steak knife and ketchup....the only thing that came and went quickly was the check and her processing it....and not a word of my son's birthday. Not one word. I told the hostess and we were offered a piece of cake to go. Sad. Just sad. At least the food was delicious, even after the wait and waiting for utensils.
Great Sushi and other dishes for those not into sushi. Large menu. Very good noodle dishes and tempura. Downtown Chicago vibe. Good attentive service. Have been back several times and will continue to in the future.
Delicious food. Great service. Lovely funky decor. Great place to celebrate!!
Good service, very good food. The atmosphere was a bit noisy, making conversation a bit challenging at times.
The food is really good- we love the sushi and appetizers. It is definitely worth the drive!
We ordered the sushi boat and it was excellent! My teen daughter has now added sashimi to her list of favorite food. Server was very friendly and vibrant. We will definitely come back!
My favorite restaurant in downtown Libertyville! The food is great and very consistent and the drinks are amazing! I love the Chilean Sea Bass, it’s the best I’ve ever had! Service is always top notch and I have to mention the restaurant is beautiful! If you haven’t tried Shakou, make a reservation, you won’t be disappointed!
I have dined there before but was very disappointed. We were seated in a cramped table for two. The waiter was over anxious and hurried us and the noise level was very loud. We were celebrating a birthday and it did not live up to my expectations.
The food is excellent and the ambience very good. The only exception is that do not take specific requests when you make a reservation. They need to build more booths.
Absolutely fantastic meals. Exceptional wait staff. My only gripe is with the hostess, who directed all conversation to my wife, and basically made me feel like an accessory along to pick up the check.
Reataurant was overly busy and loud. Food was good...not outstanding. Waitress was good but she could have used some assistance. She was great but probably had too many tables. Desserts were awful.
I seriously love this place. The food is incredible, drinks inventive and delicious, and the place is gorgeous inside. They have hosted one of my big parties, and we have also been there with another couple... both were catered excellently!! The best!!
Family dinner for daughters 23rd birthday. Service was prompt & server was very knowledgeable & helpful. Food was delicious. Drinks were fun. EDM background music wasn’t to my husband’s liking, but my 20-something kids loved it.
