Shakou Barrington Ratings and Reviews
The staff here is extremely attentive - so much so that while dining here last night, the manager came to my table to mention that there was a mix-up in the kitchen that I wasn't even aware of. He then ensured that I was cared for and they even surprised me with a delicious dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant because of the superior service, food, and ambiance!
I had made a reservation, Shakou called to confirm our reservation, which I did. When we arrived they seated us in the bar. I don't make reservatuins to sit in a bar where I have to yell to here friends and my date. Also, the table was so small our plates were basically touching. It was very uncomfortable. I'd only recommend if tables in the dining area are available. We asked why they didn't tell me to expect to eat in the bar when we confirmed our reservation. They just said they were busy. To me not acceptable since I had made a reservation.
We really enjoyed the food and the service was very good but the music was so loud the we could hardly hear each other talk. We were entertaining our son from out of town and were disappointed that we could not carry on a conversation. I do not know why the music had to be so loud in such a nice restaurant. We would return if the music was not so loud.
The food and service at Shakou are wonderful. Sadly, the noise level makes an evening with friends difficult. Blaring music added to the conversations bouncing off all the hard surfaces combine to make the overall experience less than stellar. If the weather permits outside seating, it is much more enjoyable.
I have been wanting to try Shakou for some time -- I got a gift card for my birthday and used it the other night. It was great... definitely not a place I would take small kids. The atmosphere has a Chicago feel. We sat on the first floor in the bar at a high top. Music was contemporary and the mostly an adult crowd.
Our waitress was great. The person I was with -- his meal was delayed and she let us know and offered us a complimentary drink. When the food came, portions were sizeable not over the top, yet portions were not "too" small for the price we paid (for both appetizers and the main meals).
Overall we had a great experience and will go back. I would recommend this to anyone, not just a special occasion. There is both an area for fine dining (more intimate) and the bar seating to suit whatever atmosphere you are in the mood for. Thumbs up....
2 appetizers, a drink, 2 green teas, 1 steak meal, 1 Black Widow sushi... $127 with tax... worth it
This was a selection for our annual girls night out. The food was amazing, three of us had the same dish. Our service was terrific. I, myself, used to wait tables. My only complaint was the raging loud music, we were screaming at each other, and the amount of wine in my wine glass for $12. It was barely 2 sips. Not sure I would go back, because the music was so loud, and frankly, not necessary. But I would recommend it for the food.
I was just so disappointed in the ambiance - it was very cold and music too loud and told they wouldn't turn it down. We asked to split an entree after ordering multiple appetizers and it was brought on one plate so we had to split it ourselves at the table. Shakou has been a favorite spot and this was so disappointing. I couldn't wait to leave to warm up and be able to hear the person I was with.
It is a great restaurant, I really like the food, and it has a good vibe but it is just too loud. You can hardly have a conversation with your table without shouting. If you could just turn the music down several notches it would be great. Seriously, just so loud.
