Very tasty brunch food - churros and hash were delicious. Nice, low-key yet classy atmosphere. Not too difficult to get a table for weekend brunch. Hoping to go back for the dinner some time. Would recommend!
The food is always delicious and creative. Service is friendly but very slow and not attentive. It’s way overpriced. This will be our last time here
Shakewell served quality food that is tasty and innovative. The servers were pleasant and prompt. We had a lunch but we'll go and check out the dinner. I had a three course veg. menu and my wife had three course choice with a steak sandwich. The squash soup was hearty and delicious. Both of our entrees were well executed. And chocolate dessert with caramel souce was memorable. Its Mediterranean menu appeals to us in California.
The noise level was over the top. You may want to call it energetic but I call it impossible to enjoy a
good tasting meal. In fact one of my birthday guest who was having dinner with us left in the middle of his entre because the noise level. I enjoyed the food but found myself eating fast so I could leave the restaurant.
I also found the service to be indifferent. Not unfriendly but indifferent.
This may be the new standard for restaurants. Delicious well prepared food is why you go to have dinner at a special restaurant but ambience and service is a must for me as well as the others I was eating with.
I do not see myself ever returning to Shakewells.
Our first visit & we enjoyed ourselves. One constructive concern..it was cold and drafty & we ended up eating with our coats on! Brrrr...
The flatbread with zatar was very good as were the brussel sprouts as starters. I had the classic paella with prawns and clams; overall the dish was very tasty and a much larger portion than I could eat at one sitting. The prawns were excellent, perfectly cooked and delicious. The clams were miniscule. My friend had the octopus and enjoyed it very much. We finished with the churros, which were a little disappointing. They could have been crispier (maybe smaller) and would have benefitted from addition of a little cinnamon.
Service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing.
A bit loud but food and drinks were amazing.
Came here for Oakland Restaurant Week with a reservation through OpenTable. We were greeted and seated promptly after arrival, with friendly service all around.
We had one order from the prix fixe menu: leafy green salad, grilled terrace major (bistro steak), and almond cake; as well as the fried chicken. We also ordered a few drinks, which were both tasty. The salad had a nice mix, and of decent portion. The bistro steak and the almond cake, though, were small in portion. Both had great flavor. The steak was cooked to a nice medium rare. I just wish there was more of it, even for the restaurant week price. The almond cake slice was tiny. The fried chicken was delicious and offered a nice portion.
I would come back and recommend to a friend, just not for the bistro steak or almond cake for the price.
Great time as always just cant wait for the Wednesday Fried Chicken dinner special
My family goes here for brunch for birthdays and special occasions. Staff are wonderful, personable and accommodating. Our favorite spot in the Bay for brunch.
Most of the dishes seem to use the same sauce which is disappointing
The best of the Bay!
Best thing I can say about this restaurant is that it feels like a local spot, with a comfortable welcoming atmosphere, and has food fit for a fine dining restaurant. For me, best of both worlds. The server was knowledgeable, patient and friendly. All of her recommendations were excellent. Highlights include Fried Chicken, Octopus and mushroom toast.
We had friends visiting from out of town and took them to Shakewell for brunch. We had to let them know about chicken and churros! Also, the Shakshura is amazing. Portions are generous and flavors delicious.
Expensive food and drinks, specialty cocktails need refinement, food is unique and tasty, service is average, very loud establishment with tight tables....
Always a great experience, and consistent
One of my favorite places for dinner or brunch! We enjoyed everything!
The food was wonderful and the wait-staff were some of the best I’ve experienced.
The food is reliably excellent and interesting, and the service great. I often go for lunch and the three course lunch special is the best deal in town.
As always, wonderful drinks, apps, entrees, and service!
Always love shakewell. I go about once a month. Food, drinks, & service great.
What a lovely brunch! The staff were super friendly and accommodating, never felt rushed or pressured to hurry our meal along. We loved the food!! The ambience was great. It was a little pricey and also pretty noisy, but hey, it’s a popular place with good reason! Good vibes and worth the $$. Just be sure to make your reservations in advance!
Menu had many choices to choose from. Very reasonable prices. Delicious Mediterranean food, particularly the Brussels sprouts and fried chicken. Our choice of paella was great and all of the dishes could be shared. A little too noisy for conversations.
Nice service, tasty food but a bit overpriced for some items.
Shakewell is an absolute favorite of mine! Always a place I take folks too when in town. A true gem!
Indeed! Really fun to share plates and taste everything. Every dish was perfect.
Amazing cocktails. Servers seemed a little overworked, serving too many stations so our drinks arrived a bit late. The octopus and fried chicken were perfect...we wanted the pork skewers but they ran out before we could get them. Oh yeah...the potatoes. I will dream of those potatoes.
They make a great fried chicken. The drinks look interesting.
Solid food and great service!
Delicious food and we had a group with quite varying dietary requirement. All were thrilled with their meals and service. Great vibe and a fun area.
Lovely Mediterranean dishes. The paella was superb. Nice wine list even though the wines are a bit pricey. Service was great - friendly, attentive without being too overbearing.
Octopus is fabulous!!!!!!
We love this place. It is such high quality food and service. We love good good and we love good service. We frequent this restaurant at least once perfect week if not twice. The owner, Tim, is wonderful.
Shakewell continues to maintain consistently high quality in their food and service. I've been frequenting the restaurant since shortly after their opening. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Our wait person for this visit was working her first day. Had she not told us, we would not have known as her service was flawless. Good job selecting new employees!
Not happy - the waitress kept coming to our table pushing for us to hurry to make decisions or finishing our meal. It felt very uncomfortable and it took away from our dining experience.
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. LITTLE NOISY AND TABELS A BIT CLOSES BUT REALLY A WONDERFUL PLACE TO EAT AND IMBIBE!
I brought a cousin I hadn't seen in 40 years and work mate of his, they live in rural Oregon and they loved it, couldn't stop raving about Shakewells. I always enjoy it but I'm glad to know outside Bay Area folks dig it's vibe as well
Wonderful experience, as always. Consistently delicious food and great service.
I love Shakewell.Te Servicewassexcellent and just the right amount of attentiveness. The food was delicious. An overall favorite.
First visit here. Great beet/Pom seed/frisée salad. Outstanding classic paella. Nice man he go app (tho small). House white wine lacked body. We loved this place and already have plans to go back. Very diverse. Very Oakland!
