Great food beautifully presented. The service was attentive and friendly without being invasive. Altogether a wonderful experience. I'll be back.
Stairwell is a great place for breakfast. The secret is to make a reservation! Hurrah for open table!
Fantastic restaurant, the food was wonderful and the service terrific.
I liked the starters, main course and the dessert!! I plan to return!
The place is amazing!
This place is delicious fresh and creative. An Oakland favorite.
Amazing food by chef Jen! Don’t miss the fried chicken, churros, Squid Bomba, falafel, croquettes, kefta and the whole fish! Tim has the cocktail menu on lockdown! Best in town!
Wonderful food, great service
Great date night spot! The cocktails and food were excellent - the service was even better!
We had a family style meal. Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious. We ordered grilled octopus, fried chicken, classic paella with prawns and chicken, and papas bravas. Highly recommend this restaurant. The only downfall was the service was not up to par. Waitress forgot to bring our papas bravas and we had to ask for them again.
We had a nice experience and are overall glad we came. We live just a few blocks away and have come for happy hour cocktails many times before but this was our first time for dinner to celebrate my birthday. The fried chicken and jamon croquettes were delightful and delicious. Yum. The octopus arrived lukewarm/cold and was relatively bland so that was pretty disappointing as a main course. I think food temperature is critical.
I liked the wine list but thought that a couple of lower priced options could have been in the mix.
I had a difficult time hearing my companion - very noisy with tables very close! I almost bumped over a glass on a nearby table just trying to exit.
I might come back to split a paella and a beer and an appetizer but maybe for lunch or during a more quiet time.
Excellent restaurant.....can't wait to go back! Very seldom do you find a place that is so perfect and such a good value!
We did not like the potato soup. It did not have much favor. The Fried chicken was okay. The Shakewell, signature dish was good. The choc cake and warm pudding on top was good. We are going to bring in our staff.
Overall is it was fine for lunch. Ordered the croquettes which I had ordered several times but this time they were really, really, salty. Other than that it was fine. The salad was great.
Great food, interesting menu. A little noisy for my tastes but so are most restaurants these days.
Overall I would highly recommend it for good and different food
Food just so-so, wait staff and ambiance very nice. Saw Shakewell on the PBS show "Check Please Bay Area" and was excited to meet a work colleague there for dinner. We both ordered the fresh, whole fish - which just happened to be the most expensive thing on the menu. The fish was under-cooked (discovered by the waiter that was de-boning it) and so they took it back to recook it. (They were very nice and apologetic about this.) It took a long time to get our fish but the sides arrived right away. I had the asparagus. It was plain, not great but not bad either. Served with a tartar sauce. My friend had the potato wedges and they were VERY good; the two sauces on the potatoes were amazing. When our fish finally arrived, it was a generous portion, whole and de-boned, beautifully plated, but the flavor was incredibly BLAND. It came with a lemon wedge but could have used a side sauce or dipping sauce or whatever. Unfortunately, we did not have cocktails, which is what I think they are known for. I give this restaurant a solid B.
Shakewell was really nice in accommodating my growing table total of 5 on their Sunday Brunch. Server was really nice and on it. I order their Shakshuka and a Bloody Mary. Both were good but one time try only. Not good enough to go back to it. I would order something else next time. Overall ambience was really nice. It was really loud because it was so busy. It's hard to hear yourself. Music selection was great too. Great place on a sunny day to come with friends and no kids.
The food is fantastic! Hands down so delicious!! The cocktails are amazing! The service is spotty. This was our third visit and we cannot wait to eat here again however will just have to deal with the service. So far one server was great and the other two..well..Service to greet us was very slow. Ordered our drinks and food as I felt if we didn’t do it all at once we may never eat. Server stopped by 1/2 way through after the food arrived so if something was wrong I guess you just deal. Never asked if we wanted more drinks. The next visit was just with the bill. The food is what will bring us back.
This Spanish restaurant really turns out beautiful and tasty food! Every dish has a twist or turn that is very much Shakewell and not like anywhere else. I like that the food had a bit of a Mediterranean/ Middle East influence and not an American influence. Cocktails were very impressive. I love the classic paella and that you can customize the meats. I also enjoyed the small plates and the variety!
The food and service were great, but the noise level was deafening. My friend and I had to shout at each other across the table, making it difficult to enjoy the meal.
It was my birthday, and the food was great and so was the service.
Excellent menu for vegetarian and omnivore dining together. Service was great. A bit noisy for me but overall a very nice dining experience.
Superb cuisine. Excellent service. Great vibe.
This is our new favorite. A time or two there and you feel like a long-time regular. The food and service are consistently wonderful.
A good dining and drinking experience last Sunday evening, started with the delicious Fairlane cocktail, with habanero infused tequila and coconut and other wonderful stuff. The falafel was wonderful, as usual, tasty and moist, with just the right amount of hot pepper accompaniment. Two salads, the cucumber with fresh anchovies, and the asparagus with peas were really the hit of the evening, and by far the best course. Zatar flat bread was way too salty for our tastes. The kefta meatballs were good, but the lamb chops were sliced too thin and so came out overdone and almost burned at the edges. Not nearly as good as we expected, or that can be obtained at Cesar's. Service was excellent. We will return!
The staff was very kind and attentive. We arrived late for 5:30 reservation, due to traffic, but staff was very understanding and we were seated immediately. The food was outstanding and we all enjoyed our bar drinks. It was a birthday for one in our party and they surprised her with a birthday dessert..very nice. We will be back.
One of the 3 people in our party was not given cutlery, her order came much later than the other 2 diners, and only after we had to remind our server that she had not been served. I got the 3 course special and perhaps chose the less appetizing of 2 entrees.
Great food, but the noise level is deafening. Went at 5:45 and I could barely hear my dining companions; they had even more trouble since their hearing is somewhat impaired. This place needs to add some sound dampening -- there were only hard surfaces, no partitions, open kitchen, and music. My dining companion remarked that no restaurant outside the US pipes in recorded music. It should not be necessary to yell to be heard.
The BEST shrimp and grits I have ever had... can’t wait to go back...
Amazing! Everything is fantastic here😄
A bit too pricey 🙄
However! We were celebrating an engagement and they enthusiastically helped the mom of the groom (in Oregon) purchase a surprise bottle of cava, WITH a love note ♡ Major kudos!
Make sure to make a reservation to get in. Took a while to seat but was given champagne to make up for wait. Food came in a reasonable amount of time but only a 2 out 6 dishes were something to write home about. Ambiance is the star here.
Food was great! The service was, frankly, strange. The place was busy, but we had made reservations. I figured we had a right to our table for at least 1 1/2 hours. The food came out way too fast. Appetizers arrived, and within a minute, out came the main course! We were working on one of the dishes, and a server came by to ask if we'd like it boxed up. We were still eating! Irritated, we finished our food, ordered glasses of wine, and sat sipping on them for an hour. If they'd had it their way, we would have been in and out in 40 minutes.
Was looking for a good spot to have dinner with a family member I hadn’t seen in years. Decided to go to Shakewell and was not disappointed! I ordered the papas bravas and the octopus, my mom has the paella, and my cousin had the fried chicken. Everything was delicious, although a bit pricey! We spent over $100 for two people for two meals and only one alcoholic drink. Other than the price, I Would gladly go here again!
Good over all but very noisy.
We had a very enjoyable dining experience at Shakewell. We were seated promptly and ordered delicious Rose Sangrias.
Our waiter was great, taking time to explain entrees and appetizers to us.
Only wish they served more complete vegan options rather than deducting entree/appetizer ingredients (like the sauce, etc.) as you don't feel like you are receiving a good value when half the the appetizer/entree is removed.
Wonderful neighborhood gathering place! Stellar Sunday brunch. Warm welcome at the door. Fresh, local ingredients. Lovely menu offerings. Always happy to eat here!
This restaurant is by far my favorite! The food is amazing and the service is just as good.
The food and drinks were great. The ambiance felt a little like a cheesecake factory. The interior design and TV turned to the sports channel threw the whole vibe for me.
I love the food and the service is always friendly an pleasant at Shakewell!
