Shadwells Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The service at this restaurant was horrendous! We must have waited about an hour for our food. I watched entire parties come in, be seated, eat, pay, and leave before we got our food. At the end of the meal, we found that our checks already had 20% gratuity included. I can't help but feel as though we were passed over because that was the case.
Very disappointed in the Thanksgiving meal. We had been to Shadwells on several occasions and really enjoyed it. So much that we recommended to others. Invited our niece to Thanksgiving there. We both drove an hour to meet at the restaurant.
It was so disappointing. Over salty turkey roll, and nothing else was very edible.
Not sure we will be back.
By the way, two of the sides were mac and cheese and deviled eggs???? Also asked for extra cranberry sauce and was refusd because they only had enough for the dinners reserved?
We always enjoy Oystravaganza but this year was the worst meal we’ve had at Shadwells. The Oysters Rockefeller were over cooked to the point of being burned and our waitress never came back to check to see how the food was until time for the bill! Gave us 20% off but we will think twice before dining here again.
I made a reservation for 8 for a special birthday celebration for 3 people. I made note of this when I made the reservation . They did not recognize the birthdays, offer ANY kind of birthday dessert etc. I was so disappointed and embarrassed . The service was so slow. We were seated at 7:30 and did not get our dinner served until 9 pm. We will not be returning to Shadwells.
There were a few things that I did not like. The service was good but the timing in between courses felt rushed. We were not done with our appetizers before the main course came out, which then had to sit for a while. The broccoli with herb butter came out with no herb buttter. We sent it back and got another but it still had no herb butter. At this point we said, oh well!! The calamari was good but not the best we've had. Overall the place was ok. Would try it again and be more specific with what we want.
Very friendly staff, the atmosphere was nice and they had televisions broadcasting different football games. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable and attentive to refilling our glasses and bringing out our food. The menu had a lot to choose from and it made our selection hard. We choose the crab cakes and burger and the fish tacos and pecan encrusted chicken. Every dish came out piping hot and excellent. All of the side dishes were great the macaroni and cheese was perfect. We would recommend this restaurant again and again.
Not our first visit for a special celebration & was pleased to have a separate room for our party. We were celebrating a family meeting an adopted sister for the first time. The adoption took place over 70 years ago & through recent DNA technology were able to find each other.
Our servers were wonderful - Our only negative comment is that it seemed to take entirely too long to get our food going. Once we finally got the appetizers, the rest of the meal seem to flow at an appropriate time frame.
Would still recommend Shadwells to anyone looking for a great dinner, lots of options & staff that are upbeat & friendly.
This was my first time at Shadwells and I was very disappointed. Despite a nearly empty restaurant (6 pm on Labor Day) our party of 5 was seated at a table tight into a corner making access for those on one side of the table - and for the server - difficult. Service was lackluster-the waiter tossed cocktail napkins across the table as if he were dealing cards, and getting his attention was difficult. Food was "fine," no more no less. 6 skimpy asparagus spears is more of a garnish than a side, and the presentation was no better than what i might do for a family dinner.
First of all:
THIS was a special occasion night.
61st Wedding Anniversary and other restaurants would acknowledge with a small tidbit at the end of the meal. Not at Shadwell's.
Next...the reservation was made for a Sunday night especially since I saw on their internet advertising that they have Prime Rib on Sunday's and Tuesday's.
Guess what---no Prime Rib this Sunday😠
In addition, the noise level was annoying..
The Seafood menu was lacking a lot..
No Lobster offerings at all.
On a positive note, the She Crab Soup was outstanding!!
Can't beat BONE FISH RESTAURANT for those things that were lacking mentioned above....
A good choice for dinner. Pick it from a large number of others in Charlottesville to entertain
a large group (11) for dinner. It was both a birthday and pre-wedding party. Food choices were
good and prices seemed reasonable for locale. The restaurant can handle small as well as
large private groups. We sat in the main section, however, there were a number of small
private dinning rooms.
Great location just outside Charlottesville on historic Pantops Mountain. Food of good quality, well prepared & attractively served. The 12 of us were served in a reasonable time frame by a knowledgeable server. Never felt rushed although we lingered visiting.
There is nothing special about this restaurant. Bland and inconsistent. We ordered 2 of the crab cakes dinner plates and they were different and just unappealing. We also had the trout which was just ok and the green beans were overcooked. It was our first time at this restaurant and needless to say we were disappointed.
