Shadwells Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food was good, but baked potato delivered to the table cold. The waiter replaced it. I expected the restaurant to be somewhat upscale, but it was not, and It was very noisy. Ad on TV is misleading - I did not expect to see diners in Jeans and T-shirts. I would go again, but with less expectation.
The restaurant had a casual feel and was attractive. We were warmly welcomed and walked to our table. Shortly after that Rachael, our waitress, came was extremely helpful. Immediately asked about drinks and we requested the wine menu and it was quickly brought to us. She was great and did not rush us, but was there when we needed her. We both ordered steaks and they were cooked exactly as requested, and we thought the price was reasonable for excellent meat.
We would definitely recommend the restaurant and just wish that we lived close by. If we did,we would frequent it often.
Shadwell's continues to please. This was the third or fourth time my wife and I have been to the restaurant and each time the experience has been well above average. Food was superb, service was unobtrusive and professional, atmosphere was very relaxed. All in all a great place for a great meal.
Had a 7:15 reservation, and arrived on time. Were advised that table wasn't quite ready. At 7:50, I inquired as to the status and amazingly, the table was ready - suspect they had forgotten us, as I saw a number of other parties of two arrive and be seated quicker. Had a lovely, friendly, helpful waitress, and she was very attentive. The she-crab soup was delicious, though very rich - could not finish the cup. It was oystravaganza and my husband had delicious Virginia oysters. We each had the Steak House salad. His was prepared perfectly. Several (3) ingredients were left off of mine. I pointed it out to waitress who brought them to me separately. It was a wonderful salad, and I would order again. Only negative is the dining room. Not a window in there, and very depressing - and quite noisy. If they could spiff up the decor, the lack of light and windows might be overlooked. Otherwise, great meal and we will go back in spite of the drab surroundings.
Our waitress, Alice, was very cordial and she served us quickly and courteously. Seafood is the specialty of the house and the crab cakes were outstanding. The Caesar salad was delicious as well. I highly recommend Shadwells for their fine food and service.
This has become a favorite restaurant of mine. I've been part of birthday celebrations, a good-bye party, and many quiet meals with one person or four or anything in between. Their menu is extensive - something for everybody. Our waitress was especially accommodating this time - I changed my choice of salad dressing three times and she couldn't have been more pleasant about it. The "birthday girl" was celebrating her 88th birthday and was happy to note that oysters were on the menu. That' what she ordered and stated they were the best ever.
We celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary and our meal was everything we wanted it to be! The service was wonderful and the food was fabulous! So glad we made reservations as there was a long line waiting when we got there as well as a line waiting when we left. Definitely coming back when we are in the area again!
We went to Shadwell's to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of our first date. We had reservations early on a Sunday, as we were attending a square dance later. Our server, Jackie, was personable, courteous and efficient. She even remembered us from our first visit to Shadwell's, which was during restaurant week. The food here is very tasty. Our calimari were just the way I like them--small, thin, and crispy, not rubbery and the sauce was far superior to the often provided thick marinara type. My crab-stuffed salmon had a good portion of crab; the grilled asparagus was done perfectly; and I liked that the meal also came with a salad. ($24). My husband's medallions of filet were a little more "done" on the outside than he prefers, although the inside was still pink enough to be the "medium" he asked for. Perhaps it was just the way they prepare that particular dish. I sincerely wish that my medical reason for eating a low-sodium diet didn't prohibit me from having their famous She-Crab Soup. When a friend who was with us during restaurant week had it, he immediately pronounced it the very best he had ever had. Shadwell's is not in C'ville proper, but in the Pantops area; and it is easy to drive by without really noticing the low, tasteful sign. So be sure you stop and try it out.
The server was fine, nothing special, but the food took FOREVER to arrive. He apologized only after my dad said "your cook is slow tonight". Portions great and the oyster tacos were fabulous. The hostess friendly, helpful with dads walker etc and dressed so nicely. But the slow delivery of food was unacceptable. Not that busy
We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening. We arrived an hour prior to our reservation time, were welcomed to sit at the bar, and were seated within 20 minutes. The staff was very friendly and prompt. The environment was inviting and the food was great! We will definitely visit again!
Made an early reservation and they had to find a table for us upon arrival although there were
very few diners in the restaurant. They put together two very long 4 tops for 5 people which was
very awkward. I ordered a mix grill that featured local sausage, steak and shrimp. They ran out of sausage and decided to give me extra shrimp instead without telling me (and the wrong side).
I declined the entree as I was looking forward to the local sausage and ordered the special instead. The waiter did give me a complimentary drink while I waited for another entree. Nothing special about this place.
I made reservations for my wife and I on Valentines Day. This was the first time we had been there but have heard about Shadwells through other people that were pleased. We have only lived in this area for about 3 years, I am a Pastor at a church in Kents Store, and we have been wanting to come and try. We like the local usage, the atmosphere was great, the food excellent, I got the chicken sand. and my wife had a salad, and we both were pleased. looking forward to visiting again.
What a pleasant surprise!! My husband and I had our two daughters with all the grand kids in tow join us to celebrate our 35 anniversary. From the drinks, to the appetizers to the entree, and then dessert, every dish was perfection. Our server, Noah, was incredible. You know, a great server can make all the difference in how you enjoy your meal, or not. He couldn't have been more perfect. The crab cakes did not disappoint. Shadwell's will definitely be our new favorite and can't wait to see you all again. Thanks so much for making our celebration so special and memorable. Our only regret is that we didn't ask Noah to take a picture of us but we will have the special memories of our night.
A group of us have made Shadwell's our monthly ladies lunch venue. The staff are so professional and always make us feel welcome. We enjoy the delicious food as well as being able to just sit and talk over an after lunch cup of coffee. The crab cakes are some of the best around as well as the salads. As we continue to try new things and work our way through the menu we are always pleased with our selections.
The food was fine and the servers attendant without seeming to hover. The french onion soup was a little sweeter than I am used to, but enjoyable. Babyback ribs also a little sweet, but tender and tasty. The fries were suitably hot, but did not look hand cut as advertized. Key lime pie very good. Others in our party seemed to be very satisfied, but there were no raves. I would go back if an occasion arises
I always enjoy going to Shadwell's because the service is good, the food is reasonably priced, and it's easy to get a healthy meal. However, they are guilty of one of my pet peeves, not keeping reservations. Twice now we've made a reservation and had to wait 15-20 minutes when we showed up because there were no tables.
As Jerry Seinfeld said "You see, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them."
The food and service were good but not place for families with small children. The atmosphere and the menu are geared toward adults. There were no selections for children really other than side dishes. My 3 year old granddaughter had the mac and cheese but didn't eat very much of it. I probably wouldn't go again unless all the parties I am dining with are over 12 years of age at least.
The restaurant was pretty and clean. We had a 6'oclock reservation but actually arrived and 5 and they accommodated us (Tuesday evening). There we only a few tables with diners but the hostess seated us a the booth nearest the entrance to the kitchen. So obviously not the best seat in the house as many tables were empty.....servers and runners in and out past our table and the talk in the kitchen. As for the food....my husband loves oysters but says these didn't have much taste and he has had better for less. My rockfish was tasty but the blue crab grits didn't have crab flavor. We live in Waynesboro - 30 miles away - and there are other restaurants in Charlottesville that we feel are worth the drive....sorry.......
My wife and I enjoyed restaurant week and got a great meal for a great price. She had the crab stuffed mushrooms and crab cakes w/fingerling potatoes. I had the calamari and the mussels over linguine. Those dishes didn't disappoint. The coconut cream cake and brandy bread pudding were wonderful for the finale. A glass of white wine completed the meal. Over all and enjoyable evening out.
We did not know that it was Restaurant Week. We ordered off that menu and we are glad that we did. The crab cakes and Rockfish were excellent. Our waiter was fabulous and made great recommendations. The Hostess even stopped by to ensure that we were happy and she was the friendliest person that you could meet. The portion of the meals were great so that you had room for dessert. I'm a snob when it comes to Key Lime Pie and this was excellent. We will return.
