An import from Nantucket, Sfoglia is one of the few Upper East Side joints that, if transported to downtown, wouldn’t feel out of place.
First time at the restaurant this week. The entire experience was exceptional from the service to the food. The wine list, though limited is very good. The bread is amazing and the apple tart was the best our group had ever had. Can't wait to get back.
The meal was mediocre and overpriced. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here. It survives only because the competition is minimal on the UES.
We enjoyed Sfoglia very much! The staff was very accommodating, expanding our reservation from 4 to 6 on short notice and upon arrival granted our request to move from a rectangular table to a round one for easier conversation with a group of 6....nice cozy ambiance, excellent food, desserts and cocktails!
Love the atmosphere but a bit too pricey

A friend recommended this place, so we made a reservation without doing much research. So it was one lovely discovery after another - it's cozy and charming, the staff is so nice, the food is interesting and the wine and cocktails are terrific. It's a great date night, and we will definitely be back.
We always love Sfoglia. The food is delicious and the restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere. I am beginning to feel this restaurant is way overpriced however and I am not sure if I will be coming back very often. Soup was $14 but was very small. Of the four main entrees, the pork was priced at $46. The two desserts were $26 and $21! For us this is a neighborhood restaurant and I am not really wanting to spend $275 on a local meal.
We live in the neighborhood and this place is perfect for a special night out. We’ll be back!

Not what it used to be.... very disappointing experience from the moment we arrived.
We were running late and called to say we'd be there in 5 minutes. The hostess scolded me and said she'd need the table at 8:15. Mind you it was 6:30 and we were 2. Seemed unnecessary.
The waiter couldn't have been less interested. His blasé attitude toward us was really off putting.
They were known for their bread, not anymore. I ordered scallops that were subpar, tough and stringy as they were overcooked. That beautiful caramel color that scallops take on when they are property seared actually ran halfway through the meat. My friend had a branzino in parchment. Some of the elements of the dish were cold
There was a drapery over the door on the lower level. I was seated next to it. The drapery was pooled on the floor and was filthy

I have been coming to this restaurant for the last several years and always enjoyed the
environment and loved the food. That is still the case; however, the prices have risen to
the ridiculous for both drinks and food! I would only recommend it to diners who have absolutely no concerns for how high the bill will be. For myself, I found it embarrassing.
Food and service was outstanding again! The private room is incredible for special occasions.
This is a great place for dinner if you’re doing something at the 92nd St Y and would like an excellent dinner and are willing to pay a good bit of money for it. The kitchen closes at 10, but I’ve come several times at 5 to 10 and have never felt rushed. The atmosphere is charming, but somehow every time I’ve been here I seem to be seated next to the kitchen, whose harsh fluorescent lights spoil the atmosphere a bit. Order the bambino or snapper in parchment —. The best version I’ve ever had. And the romaine salad is tops, too.
We loved it! The ambiance, the service, the food, were all excellent. Truly recommend this restaurant . Only question how bread pudding can be $21.? We’ll be back.
It’s been a few years since we’ve dined at Sfolia. We were surprised with how pedestrian the food was. Perhaps it was just a down night but the misses were across the spectrum - apps, entree and dessert. Quite disappointing. There are too many options for tasty Italian food, both in NY and the UES. Won’t be going back.

This restaurant was overpriced and not at all worth it. They charged a ridiculous amount for drinks and when we questioned it they did make a single accommodation to our bill. Do not recommend.

Sfoglia exceeded my very high expectations in every possible way. Every aspect of the meal was perfect from start to finish. We originally had a reservation for 2 at 8:15pm, I then called on short notice to increase the reservation to 4, the hostess couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. I then called again (I'm sorry!) to change the reservation to 9pm, same gracious attitude and no problem whatsoever. All 4 of us were blown away by the quality of the food and service. The pastas were some of the best we've had anywhere, clearly made in house and perfectly al dente. I'm not the biggest goat cheese fan, yet the goat cheese triangoli was the star of the meal. The berkshire pork chop was the absolute best pork dish any of us have ever had. I still don't understand how they prepared this dish, mind blown. The octopus, one of my favorite things to eat, was expertly prepared as well. For dessert we split the apple tarte, which was fantastic, however our favorite dessert was the complimentary chocolate cake. Overall, a perfect meal and our new favorite neighborhood restaurant. We will be back often, already planning our next visit. Thank you for a memorable evening.
But for the noise level I would rate this an over all exceptional experience. A few strategically placed padded baffles or hung rugs could dampen the noise markedly while maintaining the country casual feeling.
Sfoglia never disappoints. Food is fresh and so delicious. Wine is a great accompaniment. Very pleasant & friendly atmosphere and excellent service.
I'm yet to have an experience here that I would characterize as fantastic. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and rustic space, with fantastic food.
A friend and I always eat an early dinner at Sfoglia before a monthly 7:30 PM concert at the 92nd Street Y (across Lexington Ave.). The location is perfect, the menu is changed seasonally and the choices are interesting and tasty, the service excellent and friendly, and the ambiance is Italian-country and charming. Some tables are shared with other diners, but are large enough that conversations can still remain private. Because of its popularity, reservations are probably required, but they also are always honored -- no waiting at the bar (or at least not for the early seatings), which is commendable when the diners are trying to be on time for a performance across the street.

Elegant and rustic...bar area cozy and lively...efficient staff ...chicken under a brick perfectly prepared but not told it was finished with spicy red pepper flakes Owner amazingly solicitous and apologetic. Remade entire entree for another diner. Impressive!!

Sfoglia is one of the most wonderful restaurants in NYC. The chef is amazing! Her dishes are creative, delicious and wonderfully presented. The anti-pasta special is a must-have, as is the chicken. The wines by the class are always nothing short of phenomenal! And the owner is a true host.

Sfoglia is a casual, comfortable place for dinner before a concert at the 92nd Street Y. The food is good, the service prompt, professional, and welcoming. It's a bit on the expensive side for what it is, but we had a lovely dinner there before a concert. The half-portion pastas are a great idea. My wild mushroom sauce on shell-shaped pasta was especially good. It was a very cold, snowy evening, so the warm reception was appreciated.

Our second visit to Sfoglia and once again, we don't get it. The people are nice, the room is fine, but the food very uneven at best. The antipasti and cured meats were nice, but the chef forgot to put endives in the endive salad. The fresh pasta was good, light and well-cooked, but the bolognese was flat--it needed a bit more seasoning to bring it to life. The broccoli soup was, sadly, inedible and was left mostly uneaten. I love chicken under a brick, which is what I probably should have ordered, but wanted to try something else. My mistake. I do not think we will return.
Excellent, speedy and thoughtful service. Excellent fish. Very convenient if you are heading to an event at the 92nd Street Y. Overall, we are big fans of Sfoglia and look forward to returning.
Although in the beginning the service was slow - this was noted by the Manager who came to our table to apologize = it picked up quickly - there were extenuating circumstances. The meal was delicious with very innovative touches both to the octopus and scallop courses. The noise level was a bit high - but the surfaces of the space are very hard.... I would definitely return.
