I eat at this restaurant often, which I was reminded of when I looked at the list of non-pasta entrees: just 4 of them. No meat other than chicken. The pollo al mattone is usually good, but sometimes it would be great to have a heavier option.
Large portions, nice service but food quality mediocre, nothing to write home about.
Flat bread appetizer was good. Had 2 pasta entrees. One was with a pesto sauce and was very oily. Plain pasta with tomato sauce was not good - overloaded with sauce. Waiter was somewhere between pretentious and rude.
Sfoglia continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food and drinks are outstanding. The lighting makes everyone look beautiful. The room is warm and service professional, attentive and friendly. Can't wait to have an occasion to go back. That being said, the prices are high so this is definitely an occasion location.
My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here on Friday night, and the staff made sure we had the best table and made our whole experience feel special. The food was incredible and they give generous wine pours! A great spot for a special occasion dinner.
Great service and delicious food.
Great little Italian place in the UES. Small venue, so recommend making reservations. Wait staff was friendly and attentive; also happy to make suggestions. Menu changes periodically to keep things exciting. Eclectic decor was nice as well
I was disappointed. It’s a very expensive restaurant with appetizers at $24 and up and entrees are $42 and up. And unfortunately, the food is good but not great.
Sadly, the owners have jammed a tiny table up against a wall, clearly an afterthought because there’s no light. Very unpleasant and the table is so small that you can’t put a bottle of wine and bread both on the table at the same time. Uggh! Need I say more.
The service was extremely slow and very inattentive.
Many of the clams in the clam appetizer were missing.
The spaghetti in the cauliflower pasta was quite overcooked.
The bread pudding was excellent.
Not a great experience.
Food has decreased in quality over the past year or so. We’ve tried, everyone has a bad day but I wouldn’t go back
Wonderful atmosphere. The food is interesting and well prepared.
Noise level a little high, but I think that could be solved with different tables. The tables are very wide. Might you reconfigure things?
We arrived 45 minutes early for our late Saturday evening reservation as we were quite hungry. We were warmly greeted and promptly offered a table just inside the front door (not ideal) or downstairs at the communal table. We love to dine at the bar space and after checking to see if it was available, we were seated at the bar in front of an amiable bartender. The overall space is cozy and inviting and were enjoying wine and antipasti that were all nice, when the main courses were brought out. We had selected the two notable dishes that people rave about. The chicken al mattone, was tasty but served with no additional offerings so we added the crispy Brussels sprouts. Both were nice, but things you could cook up at home without much effort for far less than the $50+ they came out to be. The other main dish was pappardelle alla Bolognese. This was where the meal fell flat. The sauce was off-puttingly sweet, which overpowered any of the other complexities that make this comforting dish so beautiful. So overall the place is well staffed and the ambiance is lovely, but the food misses the mark and we had hoped for more.
We enjoyed our dinner at Sfoglia because the food was excellent and the service was attentive and helpful. The menu selections were imaginative, perfectly prepared - all delicious. Also, the bread pudding was a revelation, rich in flavor yet light in execution. We will return!
Had a nice dare here with my wife. Like other reviews have said, it has a nice relaxed, quiet atmosphere but with high end Italian food. The service was great and we felt well cared for.
Beautiful restaurant and food was delicious. I enjoyed the atmosphere, menu is full
Of great options, would like to go back again to try other dishes. Must try item : gelatos
Just incredible food in an inviting and rustic atmosphere. Great for a low-key dinner with friends or a date.
exquisite as always
food was good but not great. service attentive. the noise level in the back room is quite high so hard to have a conversation without raising one's voice. place used to be sensational...i thought the pasta bolognese was just ok, the caesar salad same...sort of lifeless.
Very tough veal tho was a special
Everything was delicious, had not been back for awhile but realized tonight what we had missed.
Phenomenal homemade pasta and the pear tart was made to order, hot from the oven! One of the best restaurants in NY!!! A total dream. Will definitely be back!!
Overpriced for the quality and amount of food served, which were okay.
Sfoglia never disappoints. We had pumpkin soup, Caesar salad, pasta with crab & veal Milanese with salad on tope and then the most divine pear tart.
Great service and food. Noise level too high for the occasion, 30th wedding anniversary. Overall quite good!
This neighborhood restaurant is a gem. Wonderful choices. The food and dining experience is outstanding.
Outstanding food and service and venue
Please get the semifreddo back.
Otherwise the restaurant is perfection!
Everything was so beautifully prepared, plated and served. And the flavors, oh the flavors! Just delicious.
The Service was outstanding as well
Server seemed out of it ... brought me a different entree than I ordered. The correct entree was ultimately brought to me, but she did not handle it as well as she could have.
Also, the dessert special was sold out before 9 pm ... this should not occur so early.
Lastly, the famed bread pudding was taken off the menu ... what is the restaurant thinking? This is by far the best dessert that it makes/serves. It could be adjusted seasonally by adding different fruits to keep it fresh.
Interesting menu. Friendly service. Food was good but expensive. $26 cheese plate appetizer had miniscule cheese portions.
I had sent a separate email
To ask about vegan options so was surprised that I never received a reply. Once there, I asked the waiter about the antipasti plate and if the pea purée had dairy in it. He went to ask kitchen and came back and said yes it did.......but offered no alternative or options.
Ended up having a bland, unseasoned soup for started and an even more bland over cooked pasta dish that they just removed cheese from.
Kind of uninspiring and a little disappointing given last time I dined the kitchen seemed to go out of their way for me (as did the floor staff).
A little over priced for an average experience.
It’s all about the chicken. Friendly service and comfortable surroundings help too. But chicken!
Charming candlelit ambiance. Gorgeous space, amazing Italian Food and great service.
Couldn’t be better! Will be back soon!
Creative and always better than I anticipate...really worth going to just to eat, but for us, it is always a prelude to 92 Y.
The food was as amazing as usual. Unfortunately one table of guests insisted on shouting the entire evening.
Excellent service , impeccable food ...you can tell the wait staff is proud to work there ... a wonderful dining experience!
The restaurant was spacious and clean with beautiful wood tables. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff. The food was excellent from the appetizers to and, including, the desert, and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Honestly, it was just ok. Not great, except for the service which was attentive but not over anxious. The Bolognese lacks meat and is heavy on the cream. It’s nice. It’s not $42 of nice regardless of the hand crafted pasta. The dining was hot and stuffy and there were only 7 diners. Not living up to the hype.
We came to Sfoglia for a 25th birthday celebration, which the staff made feel even more special by their constant care, attention, and friendly demeanor. We were helped not only by our server, but by the manager of the establishment (who brought out our birthday dessert). It was a lovely experience overall and perfect for celebrating a special occasion.
