This was my wife and my first time at Severn inn. A friend recommended it and it is a GEM. Beautiful views of the Severn river and the naval academy. Good was spectacular. I would have never know it was there without my friend .
We waited literally 18 minutes before we actually flagged a waitress down to ask if we could order drinks. We asked her is she was our waitress and she said no but she would get ours and then she came back with our drinks and asked if we wanted to order dinner. We asked her is she was our waitress now, and she said yes. The meal itself was fine, not the best food ever but good. We did have to get another waitress by turning around to ask for bread. We decided to get dessert (since it was my birthday which we noted but it was never acknowledged). We ordered the warm brownie sundae. That was a 26 minute wait. When it finally came out, our waitress said "we had complications in the kitchen, sorry" The brownie was a cake and it was miserable.
Beautiful view overlooking the water to the US Naval Academy. Great for indoor dining or outside on the waterside deck. The four of us had various seafood dishes and everyone was pleased. Wonderful place to take out-of-town guests for an all around super dining experience.
Since our favorite seafood restaurant was bought out by a fast food chain we have been looking for a really special place with a view and excellent seafood. THIS IS IT!! The views and the ambience are outstanding. The service spot on without being too chummy. The fish was cooked just right and served with lovely sides. No hurry, and a wonderful finish. We plan to make this a regular retreat.
Our food was great! Our table was nicely situated so we had a great view of the Severn river.
I took my son here for the first time, and we had a seat by the window, inside. We like leisurely meals where we can talk to our hearts' content, and the Severn Inn paced our meal (all four courses) perfectly....three hours later we were full and happy. We both had fish (the mahi-mahi, and the rockfish) and both were excellent. I had to swipe many bites of his jalapeno-cheddar grits, but he was also coveting my garlic mashed potatoes. The desserts (tres leches cake, and key lime cheesecake) were sublime. Good, strong decaf. A delightful evening. We always bring friends from out of town, as the food and view never disappoint us.
We enjoy going to the Severn Inn. It has great views, great service and great food. I urge them not to buy seafood from Canada, as they support the slaughter of baby seals.
We love the view beautiful Severn river. The food is consistently delicious..this is our go to place for out of town guest.
Very fine brunch at the Severn Inn. The food is variable but mostly quite good and the view simply unsurpassed. Worth the trip.
The service staff was excellent. the view was spectacular. The food was exceptional. We will absolutely return for dinner or a happy hour on the deck.
Excellent view. The food was delicious and the service was the best. I really recommend this place.
We enjoyed the Severn Inn in the past for the view, attentive service and outdoor dining with a great view of the Naval Academy across the Severn River. The food was adequate but the venue was the main attraction. That's changing for the better. We had all of the above on our recent visit but we were pleasantly surprised with an expanded menu with creative new items along with the essentials. Appetizers were delivered quickly and well-prepared. Main courses, fish for 4 of us, were fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The wine list, while not huge, is diverse and reasonably priced. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. So, next time, we may go back on an rainy, cold night just for the food.
On this occasion, I went for brunch. I had a late reservation around 1PM. The food was not good at this point of the day. The grits were clumpy. The cold dishes were okay. The waffle was flat. the only real good thing left were the cold dishes and the bacon. The waiter completely overlooked me. For brunch, I would not recommend noon. I will stick with late evening on the deck for dinner.
Really enjoyed our brunch. We did not realize when we booked that menu was not available until 4pm. Brunch was all that was available but, the variety of food was extensive. One of the best we have seen in our travels. Next time, we will book dinner time and try the menu.
Lovely spot next to the park and bridge, across from the naval academy. Right on the water with great views and breeze, even in summer. Wonderful, unobtrusive service. Bunch is decadent with the option for bottomless mimosas.
Severn Inn is one of the Annapolis restaurants that we frequent on a regular basis, particularly when we have out of town guests. The view of the Naval Academy/Annapolis on the Severn River is great, one of the best locations in Annapolis to eat, whether inside or out. There is a very nice deck/patio outside for dining and the inside dining rooms have wall to ceiling window overlooking the river. The food is usually very good; this time the soft shell crabs and the crab cakes were excellent; the sirloin steak was flavorless. One of the best appetizers on the menu is the grilled romaine salad and it did not disappoint. There were plenty of staff so maybe previous comments about slow/poor service service were taken to heart by management.
The view of the Naval Academy and the Severn River are the best. So go and have drink on the deck and have diner somewhere else.
Liked everything about this restaurant from view, to staff, to food, to wine. Well done Severn Inn.
Outstanding experience in all respects, definitely on the list to visit again
I have been to Severn Inn several times before, but lunch was especially nice on a beautiful day with a friend of mine. Food was outstanding; service was great.
Fabulous view. Overpriced for quality of food. Exceptionally good dessert menu, however. We'll
Be coming back, but not for dinner. Rather, a
drink on their deck and one of their excellent desserts on a
nice summer evening is worth a visit.
looking forward to doing it again. My husband loved it. It was the perfect spot to celebrate fathers day.
I usually really enjoy this place. This time, however, they were not on their game. The woman who seated us was surprised that there were 6 in our party and that we needed a high chair even though my reservation specified both. The buffet was out of at least 3 selections at any given time, and it took quite a while for them to be replenished. The biscuits were replaced with English muffins. The salmon was almost completely picked through and a fresh one did not arrive until most diners had left. Every warm dish I sampled was colder than it should have been — especially the potatoes, which were also dry, overcooked and lacked flavor. It was Father's Day so I understand that they were busy. However, they should have been better prepared.
There were no tables available outside but we did sit next to the large windows and watch the river at sunset. The crab cakes were outstanding and the desserts were delicious. The only thing that suffered was the service as they were short staffed and the poor waitress had more than a dozen tables she was waiting on so there were long waits between courses. We didn't mind too much as the view was beautiful and we were in no hurry.
Situated overlooking Annapolis, MD and the Navel Academy the view was wonderful inside or outside. Their were four of us for lunch and the menu had a nice selection of sandwiches and entries. The portions were very generious for lunch. The food was good just okay. I would recommend to friends for drinks and some foodies, perhaps dinner might be better. The bar was huge and the speciaity drinks looked delicious. But for me, once was enough.
Great food and friendly people.
Ok, I'll admit it was a rainy Monday night, so maybe we didn't see the Severn Inn at its best. It was obvious that the location and view were outstanding, even in the rain it was compelling. The interior was plain, the food was ok (I had the vegetable plate, which was interesting actually), but overall I was unimpressed. Service was pleasant. Overall, we felt this restaurant had the location to be outstanding, but wasn't living up to that possibility.
Had the view not been so spectacular the meal would have been just ordinary. Less a cymbal crash and more of a bright cow bell. Waiter was more familiar than professional. Just because you're located on a river doesn't mean that your menu has to be 95% seafood. We went there because the place we had reservations had a power outage and they recommended it... must be a corporate relationship. One pays for the view... which is expensive.
Overall... very OK.
We sat outside on the deck. Great view of Naval Academy. We ordered southern style crab soup and salad, tuna trio, crab cake and several vegetable side dishes. While we didn't specify, we would have thought the waiter would have known we would want our soup/salad out before the rest of the food. He brought everything out at once. By the time we got to the food that should have been eaten warm, it was cold. But the food was delicious.
We are long time Annapolis residents (35 years). This was our first visit to the Severn Inn for my wife's birthday dinner. The menu is varied and offered good choices for a variety of tastes. Pricing is definitely on the high end for fine dining in our area. Service was very cordial. Details that were missed include: (1) bread did not arrive until requested by us toward the end of the meal, (2) main courses arrived less than hot indicating they had probably been ready for a while before being served, and (3) wine had to be poured by me. The quality of the food is very good but not unusually exceptional. Nonetheless, the overall experience was very pleasant and we did enjoy the spectacular location and very nicely appointed surroundings.
