The restaurant’s unique name comes from an extended essay by English art critic John Ruskin. The "lamps" refer to the seven principles of architecture: sacrifice, truth, power, beauty, life, memory and obedience. Inspired by the essay, Co-owner and Executive Chef Drew Van Leuvan recognized that these important principles are also very applicable in the kitchen as he "builds" plates.

First off the food was good, however the service was terribly inattentive and continued to get everything wrong. We had a party of four for a business dinner, one guy ordered the hangar steak and the others got the duck breast. Once the food arrives we all had Hangar steak in front of us. The server said it would be about 15 minutes before he could get any duck and acknowledged the mistake. Our server said if we wanted to keep the steak he would charge us for the duck. Of course once we got the bill and had paid I reviewed the check and he charged us all for the steak, an add of about $21 for his mistake. It took about 15 minutes to get our beer order in once we were sat down. As well, once we finished our entrees he immediately brought the check and we said we would like to see a desert menu to which he seemed surprised. Overall, food was good but not enough to justify the mistake and a long piece of hair in the potatoes with my steak, terrible attention to service. Our server was Alijah T.
The Tortellini was amazing! I would recommend this place to all my friends!
Menu for dinner - sparse selection. Waiter would not let us order sandwich from lunch menu although he mistakenly gave us lunch menu. Did not bring ice for water as I requested. Did not bring side plates as we requested. Ended up just ordering fries with our drinks and went to dinner elsewhere.
The food was great but the service was the worst I’ve had in a while. We weren’t waited on for thirty minutes and our hostess ended up being our server. And hen the person that was supposed to be my server tried to take my plate away midbite.
The appetizers were good but the entrees were mediocre at best. The ultimate downfall was the non-existent service. We had to flag the server for every single step, from ordering drinks to ordering apps to entrees to beyond. He killed the experience. Will not be back.
Great dining experience!
Over priced scallops, but tasty and cooked to perfection. Server forgot about us throughout the night. Too much heavy food, fried. The ravioli with shiitake mushrooms had simply too many ingredients and too heavy! And I only counted five lamps on the main wall instead of seven, what gives?
The food here is decent, not outstanding. It’s one of those places that uses excellent ingredients, but tries just a little too hard. Their dishes are overly complex with just a little too much going on on the plate.
I had the fiddlehead ferns. They were nicely breaded and fried, the doused in hot sauce and sprinkled with Blue Cheese. Fiddleheads are rare and wonderful. Why are they trying to imitate buffalo wings? Clever? No...
I also ordered an endive salad. This was served with toast and a very well cooked sunny side up egg. The salad and egg were delicious on their own... together they felt pretentious and overbearing. I just wanted a small salad before dinner.
Lastly I had a half order of the tortellini. The pasta itself was fantastic. Homemade, light and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately there was so much else going on on the plate that the pasta got lost. Peanuts, carrots, cheese and all sorts of things overtook the pasta. I ate less than half of a half order.
Went here for a work dinner... small cute place for drinks. The food was good - mostly shellfish. The frozen drink was amazing. Would come back again for drinks.
My husband and I LOVED it!!! Dan, Out server was wonderful and super informative. Totally a place where you should share everything because it’s too hard to decide.
Service prevented me from enjoying the food. Menu looked great but after 35 minutes and my order not yet taken seemed like a bit too much. Perhaps it was my server or perhaps the kitchen itself but tonight this place was really off.
My friend and I went to celebrated our birthdays and had a delicious meal. On top of that, when we asked our server where the chef had found fiddlehead greens (one of my favorite Spring veggies that was on the menu), the assistant chef came out personally and then gave me a bunch to take home. Unbeatable customer service and everything we ate was tasty and fresh. This is a hidden gem.
Not great honestly. We were disappointed. We came here a few years ago and had a good experience but this time was much different. Our apps were okay but the entrees and service were poor. The pastas we ordered lacked flavor, especially at this price point. Paying a higher price for less food means it should taste good. Also we sat down for our meal at 7:45 and left around 9:30. That was the speed of our server. We did get an app each and a dessert to share but still, almost 2 hours is a bit much for a Thursday night out. We will very likely not return.
Atmosphere was great (we sat outside)! Server was enthusiastic and had a great attitude. Food was delicious.
Everything was terrific, including the service. Always love the cotttage fries!
It was great. Jon B always takes excellent care of us as well as the rest of the team at Seven Lamps!! Always great food!!
The Seven Lamps restaurant is a sleeper-charming, eclectic menu, delicious food and excellent waitstaff. 👍
The kitchen has upped their game since we visited over one year ago. The ingredients were right on the season and well prepared. Our waiter was outstanding. He brought enthusiasm and did not rush but was there when we needed him. We have put this restaurant back on our list for regular visits.
We really enjoyed the food. All of the food was so freshly prepared. Our server was very good. The wait staff was very friendly.
We sat near the kitchen and it was fun to watch them prepare everything.
Great outdoor patio. Loved the food and experience.
Food was ok. Not great especially for the price. Trout was salty and had way too much balsamic vinegar on it. I could have overlooked that except we had the worst service I have experienced outside of McDonalds.
Our waiter obviously did not want to waste his time with us since he hovered at the table with three women at it the entire time we were there. After first greeting us he never came to take our order until I stopped him and told him that we wanted to order. At this point we had been sitting for almost 20 minutes.
We received our food and after we were finished eating the waiter for the first time came to our table to ask if everything was ok.
I had to catch him again to ask for the check and again waited for over 10 minutes for him to bring it to our table
He made us feel as if we were bothering him by being there
Overall good dining experience. Limited selection of main entrees only five the night we went. The Steamed Lobster Bun and Fried Green tomato were amazing appetizers. The quests with me had nice sized portion meals but I ordered scallops which only came with 3 for $30. $10 a scallop is way too expensive. Beer selection was only available in cans.
Food and service were excellent.
Ordered multiple times to share, everything was exceptional. So good we went back the next day for lunch with other colleagues.
Seven Lamps was AMAZING!! Wait staff was friendly and prompt! Food was INCREDIBLE!! Will definitely be going back!
We had not been in a while, but so glad we came back. Our server was fantastic and our meal was excellent. I ordered the chicken breast and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. And, we enjoyed the fries like we always do!
Sat outside. We sat at one of the outskirt tables by the parking lot. Not an ideal location, I get that they are trying to maximize outdoor seating but may be better without these additional tables!
They served me the best tasting fish entree I’ve ever had. Ever! The Carolina Flounder.
The ambiance was very appealing and chic, and my server had great hospitality, always topped my water off throughout the meal.
My Old Fashion was spot on, and even the dessert was masterfully executed. I will certainly be back with guests next time.
Seven Lamps never ceases to impress me. I’ve been for lunch meetings and date nights, and it’s perfect for either. This last meal solidified it as one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. The food is phenomenal, the waiters are knowledgeable and kind, and the drinks are second to none. Highly recommend the duck confit small plate and the Fitzgerald drink (if you like gin).
We reserved an outdoor table a week ahead but only a small round table was available when we arrived. That would be fine for cocktails but not for a party of 4 for dinner. Food was excellent but selection is very limited. We waited for more than 5 minutes after being seated before our server showed up to greet us.
Horrible service, poor food. We would never return
It was my birthday, there were some pro’s and many con’s.
Pro’s: they gave us a 15% discount for my birthday, a free dessert and glass of wine.
The food was good enough.
Con’s: The service was the worst I’ve experimented in Atlanta (I’m here for about a month only). The appetizer took one hour to arrive. They confused the main plates for other two that we never even talk about. The waiter was not even worried in letting us know what happened. They were in a hurry to make us leave the restaurant, since we had reservations for 9pm and the appetizer arrived at 10pm we were still with dessert at almost 11pm.
A very unusual thing happened, I asked the waiter about the restrooms and he let me know were they where. He even accompanied me, but he entered the restroom before me and stayed for a while (one person per restroom kind). So I had to wait for him to use the men’s room. In the meantime another man from the kitchen arrived and went directly to the ladies room... even knowing I was there waiting. It was at least strange.
We sat out on the patio. Service was great and it was quiet. We've sat inside before and it tends to be noisy. The food was outstanding and Chef Drew came out to see how our meal was. We will definitely be back soon!
The food is always great, but the service can be hit or miss. We were seated outside and waited for some time to be greeted. The party seated well after us were served before we were. Not sure if the waiter didn’t know we were there, but he eventually came. He didn’t seem to want to be there. Maybe he wanted to be cut and was upset he got seated. He forgot my salad, the wine glasses were dirty. Overall it was not to the level reflected in the prices. We love the food, but not always the service, or lack thereof.
Great vibes on the patio but b/c chef had to prepare vegan meal as there was nothing on the menu, it was quite dear but was very good.
Seven Lamps is one of my new fav restaurants. I've been about 5 times in the last 3 months but this was the only time I wasn't pleased with my food. Two days prior I came and had the Flounder and it was delicious! I came back and it just wasn't consistent. The tempura batter was thick so I just peeled it off and ate the fish without it. I'm not discouraged, I hope it was just a mistake because I love the lobster bun as well so I'll be back again.
I always love going to Seven Lamps. The food is unique but always tasty, the people are always so nice and very knowledgeable, and the ambiance is phenomenal. Great for business lunch/dinner, date nights, or a quick bite and a drink after shopping. LOVE this place.
Food was good. Service started out great then fell behind as it got more crowded. Somewhat overpriced.
Getting a table was easy. The menu is updated daily. While the prices were moderate to high the food quality was excellent. The wait staff were attentive and the food came out as ordered and fast. Overall I would recommend 7 Lamps and hope to try it again
The bar manager was awesome! He did all the work our server should have done. Really aggressive service from the secondary bartender/server. Food was good as usual
