Sessions at the Presidio
The name Sessions refers to session beer; flavorful beers of lower alcoholic strength that are intended to be imbibed in multiples as part of a convivial “session” with good friends. The menu at Sessions extends the same concept to the food; encouraging diners to share delicious seasonal, small plates crafted with a modern California sensibility from locally produced and naturally raised ingredients.
Sessions' extensive bar is the centerpiece of the restaurant, featuring 24 tap beers from boutique breweries, 10 local wines on tap, and an artfully crafted cocktail list featuring small batch spirits. Sessions outdoor beer garden is a great place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon, or meet with friends for drink after work on a clear San Francisco day.

What Insiders Are Saying
Sessions at the Presidio is a beer-focused restaurant with good energy, in an area that needs it.
Brunch special Benedict was sub par.
Ron was great. Loved the service and location.
Lovely day on the patio dining on yummy fresh bites, restaurant was very accommodating to our dogs
Disappointed! Good before.... going downhill
Why the hostess needs to remind you regarding the 20% service charge if it was written in the menu?
What happen if you are not happy with the food and service?
Well, never visit this place again!
Enjoyed lunch with friends. It was uncrowded so not noisy and we were able to linger. Soup special (pea) was divine. Loved the hearty arugula salad, friends enjoyed lettuce cups and fish tacos and we shared the hot fresh delicious beignets for dessert. Service was attentive and helpful. This is a lovely spot and I will return.
I have dined here 4 times and tried the lunch and dinner menus. Food can be hit or miss. The last time I dined the fries were extremely oily and the oil they were fried in seemed old. The mandatory service fee doesn’t seem to give the waitstaff any motivation to try to earn it.
They were not ready for a party of 2 with reservations. Input down that it was a business dinner, but that sat us near a table of 20 parents and little kids and another table with the same, just less people. Hard to hear each other. Food was great! I asked for a gin and soda and got a gin and tonic. I'll definitely go back for the food, but be more directive about the table choices.
Love the dog friendly patio dining. View of the cherry blossoms a plus.
Sessions is a lovely place to have a meal for those who love walking along Crissy Field or exploring the Presidio.
The french fries are crazy good! We had a large group and the service was amazing!
This was the third or fourth time eating there and I wouldn't return if it wasn't great. I asked for my burger medium rare and unlike many places, they didn't over cook it. Excellent service and environment with attentive, helpful staff.
Sessions is a really nice looking upscale gastropub. They have a really nice beer selection along with some craft cocktails. The food we ordered was only OK. We had the cauliflower/ricotta fritters, the sea bass entree and a burger between the two of us. The fritters were cooked perfectly but had an overly mushy interior and lacked any real flavor beyond the dipping sauce. The sea bass was slightly overcooked which made it dry. When eaten with the ragu, the bass flavor was undetectable against the strong flavor of the ragu. Unfortunately the burger was just OK also. For 17$ you get a plain burger with lettuce, tomato and three tiny pickle slices along side fries. The burger was ordered medium and delivered medium well, served on an almost stale bun with a tomatoe slice from the top of the tomatoe still with the stem attachment point. They also add 20% gratuity to all bills regardless of the number in the party or the service you actually receive. To sum it up: great place to have a beer but the food is far to overpriced for what you get. This place charges 27$ for spaghetti. Let that sink in.
Great experience, best fries I've had outside of Belgium. Doggo friendly patio! Nice hostesses (especially the African American manager) but our particular waiter could use some work - he was a little too fast to clear things off table and I prefer my Sunday at a leasurely European pace. Skip the slightly overpriced desserts and definitely get appetizers like the the tuna tartare! Yum!
We had a great table for 7 and 3 in our party arrived and hour late. No problem, no pressure to order, very chill. Late guests arrived and we ordered food. It came right away and since one of our party was 7 months old that was really appreciated. Such a lovely setting and parking easy. For SF that is a coup!!!
We arrived at 2:20pm. Even though brunch was to be served until 2;30pm, we were told it’s too late! ☹️
We really like Sessions. We've been there several times and like to take friends. However, be aware that it is especially loud and that a table of four has to do a lot of yelling to be heard by all. The patio seating does not have the noise challenge, if it's not too cold and windy.
First time here and I will be back! Had a spaghettini pasta dish with pork and mushrooms in a light creamy sauce - delicious! Nice wine selection and wide variety of other dishes to choose from. It’s also in a lovely spot on the Presidio. The place has a clean but warm modern design and casual vibe.
I love the setting. The service was so good! And my friends and I were so happy to be able to sit and talk for quite a while and feel comfortable. We live in the neighborhood and enjoy the convince of Sessions.
Overall it was good. The restaurant is pretty with large windows and a cool bar. The cocktail list is quite innovative and reasonably priced. The beer and wine menu has lots of options.
However, the restaurant is very loud and it can be hard to hear others just across from you. We had the large charcuterie platter and I was not impressed. The meats were okay and the cheese was average. Not worth the $31. The price of the restaurant is higher than the quality.
Way understaffed. Food is a bit overpriced.
Good food, great bar, and super convenient for shows at the Palace of Fine Arts.
One of my current favorites. I was lucky to have guests on a Sunday night, so I could return for the Fried Chicken which was so good, it was even better leftover the next night! Service is included and always up to snuff.
A beautiful setting in the Presidio surrounded by beautiful places to walk. The resteraunt was very cool. The bar tenser (wish I could remember her name) was extrAordinary. She gave the history of where the name Sessions came from and interesting overview of the wide selection of beers. A beautiful, young, customer focused woman.
Awesome place, great food, easy parking, and they don’t rush you!
Wait staff was friendly not well trained.
food was ok - $$ was not worth the experience... by a far margin.
Our waitress was nice, but not very attentive. The food was OK. They should take the beignets off the menu, they were terrible, dense and crusty, not at all how beignets should taste! The highlight of the place, was the cocktails!
good food. good service. too loud. nice location, particularly when sunny.
Food and service was good. My pasta was delicious; my spouse enjoyed her burger. The space is a little too utilitarian. People were comfortable bringing their kids.
The only real complaint coming out of our anniversary dinner at Sessions at the Presidio was, being somewhat hard of hearing, the noise level was quite high, making conversation difficult. Oh, and they were sold out of many of the beers and ales.
20% automatic gratuity is ridiculous.. having a burger at Sessions is $20+
On the surface, Sessions has a lot going for it. A beautiful location, wonderful architecture, and an interesting choice of culinary options. I've been there several times over the last few years but can no longer recommend it as a destination of choice, nor do I think I'll be back.
The meal we had was exceptional. I've never quite had a pasta dish quite like it. The deserts were delightfully textured with multiple components that worked well with one another.
The service on the other hand was a disgrace. The hostess sat us in a uncomfortably cold area of the restaurant and told us we couldn't sit anywhere else while even in our section there were plenty of tables available. We were also told that the restaurant now automatically charges a 20% gratuity.
I almost always give a 20% tip so this isn't an issue for me. However, our server continually rolled her eyes at any question we asked, literally through our plates on the table before she walked away, and never came back to see if we needed anything except to drop of the check before our desserts arrived.
I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, didn't like us in particular, or wanted to go home early. Regardless, we got crappy service and attitude throughout our meal. I'd encourage the management to look into how their employees are treating customers and make some changes to accommodate all guests.
Good for kids. Loud enough, spacious, friendly staff.
Sessions turned out to be a delightful surprise, and a great place for Sunday lunch/brunch. The ambiance is somewhat hip, and there are a lot of younger diners sampling the broad selection of brews. But the food itself is the draw -- really excellent vegetarian offerings (polenta, meatless burgers, great salads) and fish tacos (mahi mahi) to die for. Service was brisk and efficient, but friendly. There's a set 20% gratuity with the bill, but that's nothing to quibble about. It's a great chance to wander the renovated Presidio grounds around the old Letterman Hospital, now home to Lucas' endeavor.
Service was spotty, food arrived at different times, beer order came as we nearly finished dinner, Food is average. 20% tip automatically added to bill so they should excel at service. Won’t go back
Dinner was just not very good. Hamburger bun was cold - like it had been in the fridge or freezer - and fries didn't have a lot of flavor. Sea bass was tough, and the veggies underneath it had a weird spicey sauce that just didn't go well. Service was generally nice, though interestingly, no one checked back to see how our food was. Beer and olives were good.
Great time! Love this Jewel of a restaurant
