Sessions at the Presidio
The name Sessions refers to session beer; flavorful beers of lower alcoholic strength that are intended to be imbibed in multiples as part of a convivial “session” with good friends. The menu at Sessions extends the same concept to the food; encouraging diners to share delicious seasonal, small plates crafted with a modern California sensibility from locally produced and naturally raised ingredients.
Sessions' extensive bar is the centerpiece of the restaurant, featuring 24 tap beers from boutique breweries, 10 local wines on tap, and an artfully crafted cocktail list featuring small batch spirits. Sessions outdoor beer garden is a great place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon, or meet with friends for drink after work on a clear San Francisco day.
Allows dogs at the tables & not just service dogs. 2 next to us & one with owner at the bar. Some may like. Some may not.
Great spot for lunch with friends or co-workers.
For the first few years after it opened, we loved Sessions. A few recent visits had been somewhat disappointing -- arriving with a friend looking forward to the beer, only to find that after a private afternoon party, they had no beer on tap, being turned away from half empty restaurant because "we didn't have enough staff come in today."
But, with tickets for a show in the Presidio, I took a friend to try again. We each ordered burgers. They were fine, but nowhere near as good as they used to be. A few years ago I would out of my way for Session's burger. No longer. They do have an extensive selection of beer on tap, but it is almost entirely hop or sour forward. Disappointing for someone looking for an amber or red ale, porter or stout.
And the service was odd. We arrived with ample time before our show at the newly re-opened Presidio Theater, told the waiter we had a show and when we needed to leave. Our shared salad arrived before drinks. Then one drink and one burger arrived. Then our waiter arrived to tell us our other drink and burger were coming soon. By the time they arrived, the first burger was cooling. Near the end of dinner, the waiter arrived and asked if we wanted anything else. No. Did we want our check. Yes. Then after 10 minutes he arrive to tell us our check was coming. Just bring the dang check. We got out with barely enough time to trot to our show.
I wish there was more consistently good food and service in the Presidio. Sessions is off our list.
This one of the best value for money place I know in SF. Location is ideal (near Crissy Field for a walk after), restaurant setup is modern but unpretentious and more importantly food is really, really good - fresh, original and of superb quality. It’s going to become my #1 destination for lazy weekend brunches.
Our waiter was great - so friendly and efficient. I can take my dog with me and not have to sit outside, which is exceptional for a brunch as it means I can walk him there and back! Love this! Food was great and we had a lovely relaxed catching up brunch!
Good food, good service, great server. We were seated in the annex area, carpeted and brightly lit and sterile. Bad 90’s pop music playing. Room was cold. Have been before and had a better experience in the main dining room, but won’t go back.
Still one of my go to restaurants, happy to say. The restaurant has changed hands, but still deliver a first rate experience in food and service. Highly recommended.
Nice fresh menu options, large and airy dinning area.
Nice Saturday brunch. Dining room was open and airy. Food was good. Service was good. We ordered bottomless mimosas. Could have been a little faster but still solid. Cheese plate was a nice appetizer.
The appetizers we ordered were very good, but our dinners were less than what we hoped for. The pasta was chewy (and I like mine al dente). It seemed that more effort was made toward presentations rather than flavor. The wine pour was meager and they didn't have several of the tap wines we wanted to try. The wait staff seemed reluctant to go and get the wine hooked up and instead of doing it, said they could if we wanted them to. When we asked for a reminder of who the maker of the wine (by the glass) we had, the wait staff reluctantly had to ask the bartenders (though there was only one option for each type of wine by the glass) - not a difficult thing to remember. Our experience was they seemed to be trying too hard on the wrong things.
Had a great night enjoying the celebration of a friends birthday. Servers were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. Would definitely return and recommend Sessions at the Presidio.
It was a beautiful restaurant in a very cool part of town. They were out of some menu items I ordered which was disappointing, but they were very gracious about it. My issue is that they didn’t tell me about it until my food actually came I and I asked about the missing item. Try to be proactive, and have the waiters know what the kitchen is out of to manage the customers expectations.
Good friendly service serving tasty food.
The restaurant was fine. The food was fine, the service was fine. I was hoping for great and we got fine. Given how many restaurants are in SF I doubt I will be back.
Service was very slow. We kept getting told “sorry for the delay, yours is the next meal up” and then nothing for 10-15 mins. Our waiter was blaming the kitchen. I hate when you they do that. A restaurant is a team effort. This was our first visit. My guess based on the vibe is they were having an off night or were short staffed. We went based on a strong recommendation from a local so I wouldn’t expect this to be the norm. Manager finally jumped in and addressed many tables that had delays.
Food was average.
I've eaten here many times and never disappointed.
This restaurant goes above and beyond to make our family feel comfortable here. My son has severe tree nut and peanut allergies and they always work with the chef and the manager to come up with safe options. The food is delicious too!
Fantastic food and service
The server was great! Very personable with great suggestions. The food delicious!
Bonus feature... walking distance to the Palace of Fine Arts!!!
Speaking for myself only: I ordered a Margerita, no salt, no sweeteners. Got a sweetened drink with salt.
Had to be redone. Salad was overdressed. The halibut was mushy, ie, it tasted like it had been cooked from frozen. Was told it was wild---didn't taste like it at all. Waitress never asked how the meal was. For the money there are so many better places to eat in SF.
My husband and I each had a burger and they were both way overcooked (we asked for medium rare) and lacked flavor. The service is typically slow; it seems like it always takes 20+ mins for the servers to notice you sitting and waiting for water and to put in your drink order.
We love the ambiance, beer list and how dog friendly they are, but definitely some hiccups to work through.
Good burger and beer. Spacious tables. Nice vibe. Liked that it wasn't as noisy as many of the restaurants these days. Able to have a conversation without yelling.
Great service but very noisy
Service is lack luster at best. Food was good but may not go back because of the disorganized service. They seem confused and not in tune with what their tables need. Had to ask multiple times for more water, or for more bread.
Decent floor at decent prices for Sf in this type of food.
One note was that they were out of persimmon and walnuts for the salad, so they substituted both, plus added raw onions. They didn’t make this clear either when ordering or delivering to our table. But I pointed this out and they were quite nice about fixing the situation. So good marks for their service!
Great food. Quiet pleasant ambiance. Unique location.
Incredible location, restearant is lovely, food was surprisingly good!
It was a great location since I needed to go to the Palace of Fine Arts! Parking was easy and inexpensive. The food was tasty and the drinks were good too! It was a great value since we went during Happy Hour! I would definitely come back again if I was in the area!
Grumpy staff and bad food.
Great food. Quick service. Classy dining. They have vegan options and will make plenty of accommodations. Overall, one of my favorite fancy dining spots of the city!
Fabulous food, some dishes were rather small or light if you are really hungry, order a starter. I was impressed with my dish and my friends enjoyed as well. Service was very good, easy to get in and out for a nearby screening and wait staff was accommodating! Definitely will go back!!
We loved everything about the place
There is a reason this restaurant always has spots for booking. The food is subpar, the hostess the night we went was so unbelievably rude, condescending, and unaccommodating. I had the vegan burger, which was pink and had a very odd flavor. I could only eat a few bites. My husband's burger was mediocre. The prices on the menu were inaccurate. Our server was kind, and the location in the Presidio is lovely. But there are so many excellent restaurants in SF. No reason to visit this one.
Sorry but I don't have time . ggggggggggggggg kkkkkkkkk
Limited menu; casual dining; wines "on tap" which was interesting - not high quality but reasonably priced; other wines by glass higher in price and quality---so good balance for a variety of tastes. Went during holiday season when many groups were meeting on a Friday night so service, etc may have been stretched by that fact. Would try again and decent value for time and location.
One can only hope that our experience Saturday night was a one-off as food and service were awful. Our foursome had eaten at Sessions about two months ago and had a great dinner. Our same foursome re-booked thinking about the great veggie burgers and extraordinary hot and salty french fries we had eaten the last time. Nope, we were informed by our waiter that Sessions was no longer offering veggie (plant?) burgers but instead were offering a new version designed to eliminate any resemblance to meat. And yes, the fries were still great.
Unfortunately, our salads were grossly over dressed, the "new veggie burgers" were mushy, tasteless and extremely unappetizing. The fries were cold, overcooked with little salt. To say we were disappointed is an understatement-we didn't stay for desert. And, I forgot to mention that the wine recommended by our young and inexperienced server was awful. So again, let's hope this was a one-off due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We wont be returning any time soon.
We did not have a very good experience. My dad is nearly handicapped and had to walk a very long distance to get to the restaurant by himself. The restaurant was not full but the service was strange. There were many staff present but still things were overlooked/forgotten. After this experience we probably won’t return. This is very unfortunate because when we were here a few years ago for a friend’s birthday we had a good experience. Very disappointed this evening.
Lovely food in a beautiful setting. A real treat.
