Sessions at the Presidio
The name Sessions refers to session beer; flavorful beers of lower alcoholic strength that are intended to be imbibed in multiples as part of a convivial “session” with good friends. The menu at Sessions extends the same concept to the food; encouraging diners to share delicious seasonal, small plates crafted with a modern California sensibility from locally produced and naturally raised ingredients.
Sessions' extensive bar is the centerpiece of the restaurant, featuring 24 tap beers from boutique breweries, 10 local wines on tap, and an artfully crafted cocktail list featuring small batch spirits. Sessions outdoor beer garden is a great place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon, or meet with friends for drink after work on a clear San Francisco day.

We loved everything about the place
There is a reason this restaurant always has spots for booking. The food is subpar, the hostess the night we went was so unbelievably rude, condescending, and unaccommodating. I had the vegan burger, which was pink and had a very odd flavor. I could only eat a few bites. My husband's burger was mediocre. The prices on the menu were inaccurate. Our server was kind, and the location in the Presidio is lovely. But there are so many excellent restaurants in SF. No reason to visit this one.
Sorry but I don't have time . ggggggggggggggg kkkkkkkkk
Limited menu; casual dining; wines "on tap" which was interesting - not high quality but reasonably priced; other wines by glass higher in price and quality---so good balance for a variety of tastes. Went during holiday season when many groups were meeting on a Friday night so service, etc may have been stretched by that fact. Would try again and decent value for time and location.
One can only hope that our experience Saturday night was a one-off as food and service were awful. Our foursome had eaten at Sessions about two months ago and had a great dinner. Our same foursome re-booked thinking about the great veggie burgers and extraordinary hot and salty french fries we had eaten the last time. Nope, we were informed by our waiter that Sessions was no longer offering veggie (plant?) burgers but instead were offering a new version designed to eliminate any resemblance to meat. And yes, the fries were still great.
Unfortunately, our salads were grossly over dressed, the "new veggie burgers" were mushy, tasteless and extremely unappetizing. The fries were cold, overcooked with little salt. To say we were disappointed is an understatement-we didn't stay for desert. And, I forgot to mention that the wine recommended by our young and inexperienced server was awful. So again, let's hope this was a one-off due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We wont be returning any time soon.
We did not have a very good experience. My dad is nearly handicapped and had to walk a very long distance to get to the restaurant by himself. The restaurant was not full but the service was strange. There were many staff present but still things were overlooked/forgotten. After this experience we probably won’t return. This is very unfortunate because when we were here a few years ago for a friend’s birthday we had a good experience. Very disappointed this evening.
Lovely food in a beautiful setting. A real treat.
Food was very good. The menu has been refreshed, and some welcome changes have been made. Service by team was great. Our server seemed very uncertain of the menu items, and had to go check with the kitchen with each question. I've very allergic to dogs. Did not realize that dogs would be walking right by me in the restaurant, and seated in the same room. I thought that dogs were not allowed in restaurants? Anyway, I won't go again.
The menu looked great, but the food doesn't live up to the menu. I had pork loin. The plate had 2 small pieces of overcooked pork, and the entire dish was brown. Not attractive, and hard to eat. For $30+, was not good.
The waiter forgot our drink order, so we had to repeat and wait until after our food arrived.
I have lived in SF for 23 years, eaten thousands of meals out and have to say this was among my worst dining experiences. Other than easy parking, I don't recommend Sessions.
Depends on friend. For younger people who like beer and burgers it is good. Put if you are going to meet friends for an evening of conversation not so good. Food is OK not great.
If you’re a local or visiting for 10 hours, you must stop here. Excellent menu, fantastic staff, reasonable pricing. Couldn’t ask for anything more.
Tis is my second visit to Sessions at the Presidio, and I definitely plan on going there again. The food is exceptional, the location could not have been better, and if you manage to find a spot outside on a sunny day, the day will not get much better. The only thing to note is that this is a moderately expensive place, so don't be surprised by your bill at the end of this all!
Not to say this is not worth it, I will definitely be returning there soon!
Food is a bit spicy for my taste but friends who like spicy food thought it was OK. Value not bad.
The food is OK. The service was not good. Took 5 mins. to acknowledge us upon arrival, another 12 for a server to acknowledge us. The server never brought a soda and had to be reminded a few times to bring a glass of wine. I like my wine with my meal.I was halfway done when it arrived.
Possibly the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. We were ignored for 45 mins after being seated at which point we had to ask a server to find our server. We waited another 10 minutes to get 3 drinks.
Arrival of our mains took over 15 minutes after we had finished our appetizers and two of our dishes were so cold they had to be sent back.
A beautiful location, I have dined here under different ownership and have always had a wonderful experience. Not this time around.
The manager Diana was rude and unaccommodating. She asked us to move tables in the most demanding and condescending tone we have ever experienced. We were shocked by the lack of professionalism and the nasty attitude.
The food was just ok, overpriced as expected. Ambiance was also average; they are just resting on their laurels due to their charming location inside the Presidio. Our server was friendly but just so slow that it took 20 mins to get our check.
Not recommended.
We had problems with service. The place was not crowded. We started inside and our server was the best. We decided to move outside and sadly got a new server. Getting some new salad dressing took eons. He did take some $ off for wait which was a nice gesture. But would rather have had dressing in a timely manner. Other guests were almost finished by the time it arrived via me getting up to get it. It WAS great out on deck. Dogs are allowed - fun! The food was good. We already booked another date!!!
Our waiter was EXCELLENT. Had a wonderful dining experience even though it was just for a weekday lunch. Nice atmosphere, great food, excellent service.
D- who manages the restaurant is AMAZING! I came here for brunch Sunday with my dog (a rescue pup who isn’t used to indoors quite yet) and UNPROMPTED she had a table brought outside for my friend and I to dine at (along with water for our dog and blankets to stay warm. I haven’t experienced service like this in quite some time let alone accommodating for a dog! The breakfast was tasty as well- highly recommend the lox Benedict and smoked pastrami hash!
Excellent! We visited SF for Fleet Week and enjoyed a great brunch of steak salad and fish tacos, along with the Skywalker wines. Top notch! After the Blue Angels finished many hours later, we actually came back to the same place for dinner. This is the first time in my life I ever went to one restaurant twice in a day. Second time around, had appetizers, more entrees, and tried handcrafted cocktails -- and again, very pleased with everything. Friendly and efficient service from the hostess to the servers to bartender to busboys. Meals came out from the chefs quickly, and we enjoyed both meals. Will definitely be back!
Always great. Service staff wonderful. Lovely environment. Food great. Feels like home.
Loved it all! We'll be back! Our meatballs took forever, though.
Meatball appetizer was just delicious. Tender meatballs, very tasty sauce. Scallops were great! Cooked perfectly and the plate was a perfect picture with greens & purple mashed potatoes. For desert the beignets were a great finish.
We had a lovely time celebrating my Dad's birthday on an unusually warm night in San Francisco. The patio setting is wonderful and the food was delicious. The service, while overall friendly, was painfully slow and the waiters didn't have a great sense of urgency. We waited for our beverages for a very long time and they forgot about my Dad's birthday (candle in dessert) even after mentioning it to them three times.
It was a terrible experience, we will not ever go back.
It took a bit to be seated, it took a bit for a server to come over, the music was too loud. When we finally ordered, 5 minutes later we were told that the steak 3 of us ordered, was out. The chicken was also out. This left us a choice between halibut and a burger. Then one person at our tables salad was not served, so she waited 5 minutes for that. As it got colder, the propane lamps were low, we asked for them to be turned up, we were told there was no more propane. All the lamps were out.
No one comped us anything. It was terrible.
Went for happy hour. Limited menu of only happy hour menu items. Surprisingly there were no vegetarian much less vegan options. No veggies at all unless you consider french fries. We had fish tacos, cheese plate, meatballs and the burger (sub salad for fries). The food was good. Outdoor seating was lovely. The service was super slow and a bit confusing as we had multiple people taking our order so we weren't quite sure who was doing what.
Service was slow and error/filled. Food was cold and awful. Pasta came cut into one inch pieces and overlooked .
Not as good as it once was. Food used to be much better. On the plus side, the service yesterday was MUCH better than we've experienced in the past.
the burger was my favorite burger in sf, somehow this time it was just like any burger you can order in any diner. and the buns were not fresh.
We had a lovely lunch on the outdoor patio. There is a wind barrier as well as heat lamps but we did not have neither wind nor cold, fortunately.
We had the burger (yum) and the newly updated chopped salad which was great (gotta love Green Goddess dressing). Not too abundant and just right. With a nice glass of Pinot Noir, it made for a wonderful meal with a friend.
Our table was not ready when we arrived. It took the hostess 30 minutes to get us seated and the only reason it did not take any longer is because we kept following up on the status of our table otherwise I’m sure it would have taken another 15-20 minutes to get seated.
The waiter was nice but nearly all portions of our food order was wrong. We received starters we did not order and were missing two others (party of 6). They corrected this but the correct starters did not come out until after our entrees.
Nearly every entree and starter was served to the wrong person and our drinks arrived after our starter and only after asking twice about where they were. The waiter comped the drinks which was appropriate but overall a very disappointing experience. And the restaurant was not crowded. Not sure why the service was so poor. This is our 4th or 5th time dining at Sessions and by far the poorest experience. Especially disappointing as I chose the restaurant and several of the guests were from out of town. Not a great experience for them on a visit to SF.
Slow service. Had to wait at bar for 30 min for an outside table even with our reservation. Took 1.5 hrs once seated to get 2 burgers and 2 beers.
It was a wonderfully warm day in SF when we took our friends to Sessions. Eating burgers and sipping craft brews outside during happy hour was perfect. Our server was friendly and amenable. Can’t be beat. Thank you Sessions at the Presidio.
We would absolutely recommend Sessions to our friends - We love this place - the staff is quick, friendly, competent and obliging - and of course, anywhere that lets dogs sit by your table is on our A list - you should add stars for ambiance - we are looking forward to lunching there fleet week - and hopefully sooner as well
Recommend because of location. Don't care for all the dogs in dining area. Asking for beer twice and coffee 3 times not good. Fries overcooked but wife's fries were perfect.
The view and food are amazing. The music choice can be better for that environment. Sunday branch music should be calmer rather than loud rock music just we experienced last weekend.
Excellent all the way around.
I went there with two friends from back east to have brunch. They have an extremely limited menu, but whatever we ordered was really good. I had a lot of trouble getting a dry martini, and they serve a martini in the most ridiculous glass—it’s like an old fashion champagne glass. It was quite loud because there were families there with loud children.
Food was excellent, as always. Brew beers were very good. Service was the thing that was mediocre - and made worse by the fact that Sessions evidently changed its 20% tip added to the big policy and decided to keep it a secret from the customers. not a sign anyplace that this policy was changed. Having the waiter chase me down to have a tip added to the $300 bill, was a major annoyance to what was an otherwise pleasant evening with friends. Sad - because I've eaten regularly at Sessions since it opened and this tip policy was a feature I liked. Come on Management - get with it and let your customers know you've made a major change in the tipping policy.
Apparently, they were incredibly short staffed on 9/1, Sunday evening before Labor Day. Yet, the staff who we did come in contact with acted strangely like nothing was wrong. A heads up that everything except the bar would be horribly backed up would have been much appreciated.
