Serge Bistro is a casual dining restaurant. It serves a French cuisine in a charming setting. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and the walls are adorned with artwork by burgeoning local artists. Serge Bistro also offers seasonal French delicacies throughout the year. Diners can also order wines from the distinct collection.
Serge Bistro has an elaborate menu and main course, appetizers and desserts are offered to the customers. There are soups, salads, burgers, fish, pastas, quiches and meat delicacies. Grilled striped bass, New York Cheese burger, wild mushroom ravioli, duck confit and beef carpaccio are some of the dishes that the diners can order. Crème brûlée is a special dessert offered at the restaurant.
Wow, what a discovery in my neighborhood. Excellent food, friendly and prompt staff and so close to home. Don't let the unobstusive front discourage you. I'll be back again and again.
Serge Bistro is a great local spot. The food is delicious, well priced and nice portion sizes. The owner serves as host and often waiter and is very charming, interactive and attentive. I've been here 3 times and never disappointed.
Don't be fooled by the storefront exterior. It's a cozy, nice ambience to to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
The lamb shank was falling off the bone as it should and was very tasty. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and the owner very friendly.. Perfect for our pre-opera no-fuss dinner.
Great food, friendly staff and a delicious 3 course prix-fixe dinner menu.
Excellent food and service. Small place with relatively few tables in middle of non descript block on 2nd Avenue. A nice find.
Service and food were exceptional. Truly enjoyed the experience. This was my fourth time to Serge Bistro and all of the meals were great.
Great food great service my ownerc
In the neighborhood the is fast becoming Manhattan's new Gold Coast, Serge Bistro is a find. Serge will personally greet you , make dietary adjustments to recipes and sometimes even treat you to an a Capella melody. I go there at least once a week. A great
Bistro menu is complimented with daily specials. The fish is always fabulous.
The food was good, the look of the place is good, service was fine (we were served by Serge) but for the entire time we were there, we were the only ones!
What are we doing for dinner tonight? If the response is "I don't know", then the answer is "Let's go to Serge". I have been there at least once a week since they relocated from Madison Ave and have never been disappointed. In addition to Frech specialitie such as frogs legs, and moules frites, they make an outstanding chessburger or salmon burger. The grilled octopus salad listed as an appetizer is a good choice for a main course, For dessert, I adore the floating island. I brough gluten intolerant friends on Saturday night and they were thrilled to have so many choices for both main course and dessert that met their dietary needs,
Serge's classic French menu has the advantage of all classics: it aims at quality and authenticity. The menu is not long but it includes all dishes that come to mind as quintessentially French: snails, frogs' legs, steak tartare, steak au poivre, soupe à l'oignon etc. All done to perfection and served with loving care. We loved the plump snail but would have preferred them served in their shells, as still done in old-fashioned Paris restaurants. The coq-au-vin had a great wine-based sauce and was cooked to perfection, but adding penne as opposed to classic plain potatoes to the dish made it look as a bit of an American adjustment. Fabulous all-French deserts, excellent swift service. Warm welcome from the owner in person!
The owner is a very good French who owned SERGE RESTAURANT AT MADISON AVENUE which were very well known in the neighborhood by the very good food it had.
NO COMPLAINTS VERY ENJOYABLE
Very under-appreciated! Owner is always present and more than willing to please.....
LOVELY SERVERS......NICE PRESENTATION.......GREAT OWNER WITH A CHARMING PERSONALITY HE CHAT AND KIBBUTZES WITH EACH TABLE AND MAKES EVERYONE SMILE AND FEEL COMFORTABLE......
WEL PRICED AND A NICELY VARIED MENU!
We recently moved back to the East 50's and some friends recommended Serge Bistro to us. We have been there three times in the last two weeks. The menu has great variety with the salmon burger becoming a favorite! Serge works the room like a true pro making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. The wait staff is excellent as well.
We will be regulars for sure.
It's great to have a place where you can go and feel welcomed and comfortable.
Terrific food (try the frogs' legs) with attentive service.
Good meal and service. Mushroom was the soup of the day and it was fantastic. The tilapia was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The staff made everyone feel welcome and I left with a smile. Very pleasant dining experience.
Unexpected pleasant newcomer on busy part of 2nd Ave. Small, friendly, quiet bistro with good food and very attentive owner and staff.
Recommended. Nice restaurant, nice food and a very friendly French owner. Serge!
Owner goes out of his way to make the experience VERY pleasant!
Great little neighborhood gem. Great food, great service. Only think lacking is a full bar. Resaurant only serves wine and beer.
Terrific meal hosted by an incredibly personable and hospitable owner. Serge paid us great attention and even sat down with over some wine to cap things off. Service was slow at first but quickly picked up. Atmosphere is very generic and un-interesting. This part of town feels the same, as well, at least to a non-New Yorker. I'd definitely go back as long as Serge is around.
The new Serge's (moved from Madison & 33rd) is terrific. The food is solid. My friend had the PrixFixe Tilapia and loved it - I had the Duck Confit which was better or on par with the best I've had in Paris. Fair prices make it a great spot to go.
We were greeted warmly in our first visit to the restaurant. Service was very attentive and helpful in making accurate recommendations when asked. We shared the mussels appetizer, which was excellently baked with garlic and parsley. The steak tartare was nicely seasoned, with crisp french fries and delicate greens. The calves liver was very tasty. We look forward to returning.
The former location was wonderful and this version is as well. The food is divine, the wait staff is helpful and attentive and Serge is a charming presence. The best of French cuisine and old world ambience.
What a lovely find in my new neighborhood. The food is very authentic and fresh. The owner was charming and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Extremely fairly priced. I will definitely be going back!
YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THE ADVERTISED PRIX FIXE LUNCH MENU, but once you have it, the food is delicious and the price is right.
i have dined here several times (lunch/brunch/dinner) during the past two months and have found all the positive elements consistent each time. the food and service is equivalent to what one could experience in a restaurant located in another area and the price is very reasonable for what is offered. don't allow the store front location on second avenue to turn you off. once you enter you will discover that it is a neighborhood gem and also worth going to from out of the neighborhood.
I went with a group of 5, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. The warm goat cheese salad, salmon, frogs legs, and french onion soup were delicious, as were the floating island desserts! The wait staff were friendly, and ambiance was comfy - a real neighborhood gem. I would definitely go back again. The only drawback was that the service was a bit on the slower side - it took a little longer for each course to come out than we would have liked. Otherwise, Serge Bistro was a true pleasure!
There was a group of us and we all had the prix-fixe. Thought it was very good and varied. Would return.
It's a hidden gem on 2nd Ave. Food's very good (w/ generous servings) and prices are reasonable. Our waitress was attentive and responsive. Serge the owner sang "happy birthday" as he presented my dessert with a candle and the other diners joined in. Then, the friendly gentleman at the next table secretly took care of our check! Only in New York would a complete stranger do this! If you're reading this Mr. Gary, thank you, thank you! You're very sweet--you gave me a lovely story to share. My friends and I shall surely return.
This is the kind of comfortable, go-to restaurant that provides good, unpretentious food in a friendly and relaxed environment. Serge himself is a generous and gregarious host and makes you feel very welcome and taken care of. It's definitely good value for the money. My only complaint is that the design is not particularly engaging and seems like something out of 1991, but hopefully Serge can make some changes to make it more like his former place on Madison Avenue.
The good was excellent. We had the the duck and steak tar tar
I had dined at "Serge" when it was Madison Ave., and was delighted to know it had moved to a place nearer my home. The food is excellent, and what the review above does not capture is that: 1) the price is extremely reasonable. There is a prix fixe menue that is only $28.00, which includes appetizer, entree and dessert; and 2) Serge himself presides over his place with true European charm. Each visitor is made to feel at home. I enjoyed a substantial vegetable soup with kale, a superb tilapia with orange sauce, and a nice sized portion of tiramisu, not to mention hot slices of whole wheat bread fresh from the oven. The staff was extremely polite and professional.
My friend and I ordered from the pix fixe menu which is very generous. I had the Tilapia which I found to be succulent with an unusually good sauce. My friend had the steak frites. She wasn't at all satisfied. I think it had to do with the cut of meat, very thin. And while we enjoy a hot plate we think her food kept cooking so tht the steak was well done instead of medium. The salad on the (hot) plate was hot to the taste and she would have preferred it cold. Appetizers were tasty: mesclun salad and pate.
And desert options were varied and good. I had the floating island/meringue and she had flan. The service was gracious and engaging. I'll come back and so will my friend to see if Serge has enough going for it to make us regulars.
2nd time here and no complaints. The staff is very nice and welcoming. Owner came out shaked me and my dates hand. Food was very good , try the escargo! Would definitely recommend.
Very nice French bistro menu. The prices are quite reasonable especially for the quality of the food. The wine list is smallBut they usually have some additional gems so its worth asking your sever what else us available that day.
Do yourself a favor, don't go to this place. we went last night for valentines day, not only was the service terrible (our waitress could hardly speak English) but the food was so bad, it appeared to come from omaha steaks and served microwaved. of course, it took 45 minutes to get our cold appetizers, and an additional hour to get said terrible food, which we had to ask where each course was, after tirelessly waiting. there was nothing appealing about this restaurant, it was one of the worst dining experiences i've had in living 10 years in new york. disappointing doesn't being to come close to describing the experience. I've had better food at mcdonalds.
I enjoyed the food but the manager was upset I did not take the free champagne. I am not a drinker and he had no problems showing his anger towards my friend and I. Also, one of the waitresses just stood behind my friend staring at us for most of our meal. The food was great though. I prefer Bistro 61 jus a few blocks over.
we enjoyed our meal here very much.
