Serevan Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Severan is out of the way for us but we stop for a meal whenever we can. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented (our experience last week was no exception). The service reflects a well-trained staff -- they know the food, they field questions well, make helpful suggestions, are consistently friendly, polite and professional. The chef/owner always stops by to say hello and thank us for coming. The gestalt is a a perfect segue from hectic NYC to the serenity of the Berkshires. A gem.
Drinks were not too good. Two of them were way too sour. The gin and tonic was flat and tasteless. Didn't yseschweps for sure food was fair to good. Dessert was a soggy mass instead of crisp baklava. Disappointed with the quality of everything. It's been much better than it was Sunday night.
I've been to Serevan three times. The two most recent have failed to live up to the first time, unfortunately. When I was there over the summer, a waitress spilled soup broth down the back of my dress and offered a perfunctory sorry. Most places would comp your dessert or offer to pay the dry cleaning bill on that (and I did have one), but here it was treated like, oh well, no biggie. This most recent Saturday, when we were there on my birthday, we had to wait a long time inside the door, because there was no hostess or staff in the entire front half of the restaurant. Eventually it became strange and awkward. My husband finally went back just as almost the entire staff came out from outside, where they were chatting or taking a smoke break or I don't know what. The service after that was fine -- professional, not terribly warm. The appetizer I had, a special bread-cheese-lamb thing much like a quiche, was amazing. Gotta give them props for that. The chocolate dessert I had was also quite good. The entree I had, also a special, was so bad it was almost inedible. A special duck dish that was not tasty inside a cooked rice structure that was hard and crusty and difficult to eat. For the price, there should be no downers on the menu, and the service should really shine. I sent back nearly half the dish, which should have flagged the staff, but they said not a word.
Serevan is very special. The food is exceptional and the atmosphere is warm and cozy with lovely decor. It is that perfect country restaurant that we dream about but that is actually hard to find. It is one of our very favorite places, city or country. Cannot go wrong here either for a romantic dinner for 2; family dinner with 3 generations or even a girls or guys night out.
Went for my birthday this time. One of the top three dinners I've had in my life. The flavors were exquisite. The scallops were like butter melting with each bite. My husband and son also immensely enjoyed their food. Will not wait so long to return next time.
I have been going to Serevan for years. It is one of my favorite restaurants. Fresh ingredients, interesting preparations and spices make the food delicious but not fussy. I love the drinks, including the "Passionful Mojito." The waiters and staff are friendly and efficient. The restaurant is in a house that feels warm and cozy, and has a fireplace for cold winter nights. Serge (the owner) is friendly and professional. Prices are reasonable given the high quality of the food.
New Year's Eve, a special night for us, became special for a new reason this year. We were re-united with Serevan. With the Fireplace as a backdrop, the presentation of our dinners was exceptional and service top notch. Both the steak and the halibut were perfectly cooked and served hot. Although we live nearby, it had been a few years since we visited Serevan, as there are many upscale venues to choose from within a half hour. What were we thinking? Serevan is now at the top of our list. Thank you for your hospitality.
Served four of us with dry stale bread and 6 olives to share.
Cocktail spilt by wait staff as too full to carry ...should have been half poured then topped up at the table ...two of the same cocktails ..cucumber martinis were completely different shades of green, with one having a green sludge in the bottom.
The table was drafty near the door but worse, was that every time a customer and especially the wait staff walked past the back of my chair , the floor boards are so bouncy that the chair jarred up and down every time a person walked past ...given where it was on the walking track for guests coming and going plus the frequent waiters made it very unpleasant.
First and second courses delicious. Special desert like stodge and did not live up to its description. Other desserts that my friends let me taste were excellent.
Given this is an expensive restaurant with a high reputation, I was disappointed.
Wait staff were friendly but could have been more attentive.
We drove an hour from our hotel to this restaurant and it was easily worth it! The food was unique and cooked perfectly. I followed the recommendations of several Opentable reviewers and ordered the Chicken Bastilla - and now I can't stop thinking about it. I also had very fresh oysters - a special for that particular day.
I would easily go back to that restaurant.
My wife and I had a wonderful experience. Serevan has everything: Friendly staff, cozy & quiet home like environment, delicious food, attention to detail, and a chef that is present and friendly. We have added this to our short list of favorite places and look forward to returning!
The food is generally terrific, often in unexpected ways. We were last there latish on a Saturday night and the crowd was noisy and the service slow, although thoughtful. The Morrocan Chicken Bastilla is a real treat--shredded, highly flavored chicken under a pastry (somewhat like beef Wellington). My friend Douglas said his dinner was the best trout he ever had.
The food was very tasty. The owner was hospitable.
The wines by the glass are expensive ($14.00) for a mediocre wine and a small portion.
The open kitchen was noisy.
The waitstaff were friendly but very unprofessional.
The wine and kitchen spoiled a good experience.
This is a favorite restaurant of ours. Always excellent. But it was off tonite. The duck was tough, some of the food and coffee were cold, some guests were annoyingly loud and a few of the service staff desperately needed training- didn't know how to pour the wine, reached over people to serve, brought the soup out without a spoon and went back to get the food for the rest of the table.
Just a bad night-but we will be back. This is the first non-fabulous experience we have had. We think the food is marvelous, creative, well-prepared etc. Just not that night.
