Serafina Upper West Ratings and Reviews
We arrived and they hadn't put the a/c on yet... it was so hot and humid, we almost left. The service was awful. We had to get up and get the Manager to send the waitress to take our order. Then we had to get up and go ask for bread. Then we had to ask for plates for the bread. The booth we were seated in - we were a party of 6- was stained. The bathrooms were downstairs and filthy. The food was the only positive thing. The real clincher was when they put an automatic 20% on the tab fora gratuity! The staff did not deserve a tip of 20%! The White Plains and other Serafina in NYC are great. This place really needs work. We will never go there again.
Servers and workers with little or no ability to speak or understand intelligible English. Rushed, rude service (reaching over, across plates while we were eating), entrees that came out too staggered. Cold, rubbery chicken - disconcerting to think how do they get that chicken into a perfect round shape? The only think I tasted was the thick coating of oregano, which I detest, and wasn't mentioned on the menu. Can get same food at a pizzeria, for A LOT less $$$. And those guys are typically friendlier.
Although the food (brunch selections and a pizza) was very good, the service was really disappointing. It was NOT crowded at all, but the waiter and the busboys kept forgetting to bring water and drinks, and forgot to refill coffees, after being asked several times for both. But, again, the food was terrific.
This was our second time to Serafina's on the upper west side. We go as a group with family and we are a large party of 8. The staff is always very attentive and helpful that we are seated comfortably. The food is delicious although not without cost. It isn't the most inexpensive mean but it s worth it when you have a great time. Not more expensive than other places in the area, it is NYC so expect to pay a premium for dinner. Would recommend to anyone having dinner with kids as there are many options on the menu for them.
Table service is awful. No attention. Food came out staggered and waiter argued it was customer's fault. We had 2 waiters and no one spoke to another. Took 30 minutes and 6 requests for a soda. Pizza is thin (but flavorless). Pasta so-so. And WAY OVERPRICED!
So average! Pizza was very disappointing and we tried 4 different pies. Watery, lack of taste, basically all the same pizzas with different toppings. Fried Calamari from an Italian restaurant should not look and taste like a basket of onion rings. Dead giveaway that it isn't fresh. Not to mention that they have a brick oven but serve their bread cold...or defrosted. The only saving grace is that it is very affordable for the neighborhood. Maybe try the pasta and hope for the best
Serafina Upper West Side was a perfect stop prior to our event at the Beacon Theatre. It is only 2 blocks away. We weren't in a rush and our server wasn't trying to push us out, so we relaxed with a couple of glasses of wine at the table and enjoyed a very good meal. We started with the calamari and the fresh mozzarella w/prosciutto. Both were very satisfying. The prosciutto was razor thin which made it especially good. It was a casual dinner and I had a personal pizza which was good. My wife had the spaghetti squash which I tried and was very tasty. Good spot for a group or couples for an enjoyable dinner. I also saw quite a few families there as well and it looked like they were enjoying themselves. I have been to most the locations and it is they are always consistent.
Went there for early New Year's Eve dinner with Family. We were seated promptly, but needed to wait about 15 minutes before the waiter paid any attention to us. All evening he was attending to too many tables and we were neglected all night long. My request for olive oil was ignored and we had to flag the waiter to refill empty wine glasses. The food was so, so and the entire restaurant staff was preoccupied with the arriving guests for New Year's Eve "late seating" dinner. I doubt we will go back any time soon to this UWS location.
Some of our entrées were very good and demonstrated attention to detail. But there were too many below average parts of the meal that make this a mediocre restaurant at best. For example, my Filet Mignon burger was served a perfect medium as ordered. The caramelized onions and gorgonzola cheese topping were excellent. I would think that for $19 you would get all of that AND some fresh cut fries and home baked roll. Instead, the fries were not even as good as you would get at Denny's. You could get as good or better buns at your local grocer. My wife's dish was much better - a vegetarian pasta baked in a unique shell.
My calamari appetizer was very nice, with what appeared to be good quality fresh squid, fried in a very good batter and served in a generous portion.
I think you will be disappointed if you are looking for a superb dinner restaurant. Instead, go with the salads and pizza menu.
We were running late as a 6 person reservation and she held it as long as she could, seating us with a minimal wait. They seemed to be in the middle of a rush so service wasn't fantastic but luckily we still made it on time to our show and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
Took my family here for dinner. I found the drinks to be especially pricey including small bottles of coker products. Two of us had the veal scalopini which was chewy and overcokked. Would not order this again.
Salads good as was the fried calamari.
The salmon dish was delish.
Bill for 3 Adults and 2 children was $ 366 USD
The service was terrible. We were rushed throughout the entire dining experience. Our bread came out 2 minutes before our main course and our drinks came out after the main course!! We had 5 people at dinner which I don't think is a large party and they had 4 people helping us. I felt very rushed. No one greeted us at our table. The first couple of words out of the servers mouth was "do you have any questions about the menu or are you ready to order?" Not even a hello how you doing this evening. I will not be going back!!
Took our friends from San Francisco there for dinner on Labor Day Weekend. Hostess gave us great table close to outdoor seating. Food and beverages were great. The Chicken Milanese was outstanding. Highly recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience top-notch Upper West Side casual dinning.
We celebrated a big birthday with family. We have been to many of the serefina spots but this is our favorite. Food was Delish, and they met our dietary needs and wants. Love the outside and will be back again. They meet the needs of everyone's likes and dislikes with food. You can do anything from pizza to veal. Awesome!
My family were in town and they remembered going to another Serafina location and enjoying it last time they were in town. Unfortunately, bad service, and bad food plague this location. We were seated in a booth in the back, and we were ignored by our waiter for most of our stay. We had to keep grabbing busboys to get what we need (some water, some cheese, ...). When our order was taken, we were with kids and asked for their food to be brought at the same time as our appetizers- it was not and when we asked the waiter why the food was taking so long we were told it's because you ordered appetizers. The manager kept sneaking into the back area to text, and completely was oblivious to what was going on. Pasta was overlooked.
We were there for Sunday brunch and the service was slow and inconsistent. Meals came out in three different time periods. Those that got served first politely waited for everyone to get served before eating. By the time my wife got served everyone had cold food. My children are not picky eaters, but one son's eggs were bad (rubbery) and my other son's pasta (which he loves) he would not eat beacuse it tasted bad. The steak in my steak and eggs was tiny and was of mediocre quality. They clearly could not handle the brunch busy crowd.
