Serafina Upper West is a friendly destination for local families, professionals, visitors and everyone craving a fabulous Italian meal.
Food- The appetizer, calamari, was terrible. Overly breaded, no taste of calamari. They looked like onion rings. But then, at least, one can taste the onions.
The "olive" oil that was served with the ok bread was either terrible olive oil or not olive oil at all. It was inedible. Took us forever to get some butter. The entrees included tagliolini pollo which was badly cooked and not spiced. The pasta was undercooked and should have been sent back to the inept kitchen. The cream sauce was tasteless.
The rigatoni Bologna was ok. At least the pasta was cooked. The sauce lacked sufficient beef and was amateurish.
Service- No cheese or pepper was served with the entrees and it took a while to get a server to bring it to us. By the way, the place was not crowded.
The drinks were terrible. Two drinks were ordered, one with a splash of soda and the other with a splash of cranberry. Either the waitress failed to deliver our request or the bartender thinks a splash is half a glass.
The comedic moment of the dinner occurred when we asked the server to put half the tab on a credit card. She wanted to know about the other half. We said we would pay it in cash. She demanded to know, "Where is the cash?"
I can only imagine that this Serafina is open because they have restaurants at other locations that are better. We will not be return customers here.
My family went before a show at The Beacon (5 minute walk) and we really enjoyed our meal. Service was great, food was above average and our picky kids loved it. Price was reasonable. If you going to a show at the Beacon this is a great place to start your night.
We had the pre-theatre dinner special which included soup or appetizer, entree, and dessert all for only $39.00 pp. The food was fresh, delicious, beautifully served and portions were plentiful. The wait-staff were polite, friendly, and attentive, while not being pushy. We liked it so much we came back for breakfast the next morning.
I had a reservation for 2. When I checked in I was told they had no tables in the main dinning room and that none would become available. I was offered a table at the bar or in the back room which doubled as a coat check room. I was told those were my only choices. We took the table in the back to avoid the bar scene and being by the door on a cold night. No accommodation was made. The meal and service were good ,but if you have a reservation for the dinning room it should be honored. They should have at least had the manager apologize. It was poorly handled. I was sitting with the overflow crowd who didn't have reservations though the check in person said reservations only. I asked the others in the backroom and they didn't have reservations. Not good!
When you are in the mood for Italian, Serafina offers a decent value for the UWS. Love the Gluten-free options. Service can be a bit slow.
New year eve
Serafin didn’t tell us up-front about the special New years menu and that we had no choice of other dishes until we sat down at the table, so we left as we were not that hungry as to want to spend 75$ each. I believe its possible to explain special orders through this app. But even in the restaurant when you arrive they should have explained as they seated us.
New Year’s Eve
Very kid friendly
VERY BAD SERVICE. SLOW!
ONCE WE WERE SEATED, AND ORDERED, WE NEVER SAW THE WAITER AGAIN.
HAD TO ASK FOR EVERYTHING WE NEEDED INCLUDING THE CHECK>
VERY DISINTERESTED IN SERVING US OR EVEN GETTING US A SECOND DRINK WHILE WE WAITED FOR THE VERY SLOW FOOD SERVICE. AND THE PLACE WAS NOT THAT CROWDED. TOO BAD BECAUSE IT IS A LOVELY LOOKING COMFORTABLE PLACE, AND THE FOOD WAS GOOD.
Great location close to Beacon Theatre which made it very convenient as we were attending an event at there. Food and service were good, large portions so arrive hungry. Bruschetta was amazing and tomato’s we’re ripe and delicious.
X this place, and there's always a table available
First off, I would like to say that all the food we ate and our cocktails were very good. I ordered penne vodka and my friend had the rigatoni bolognese. I also ordered the naked martini which I enjoyed.
The service could definitely use a lot of work. I had made a reservation ahead of time earlier that day and when we came in we were offered two tables to choose from, I chose the end to not be in between two other couples. At first this was fine, but then a larger party of 6-8 came next to us and a table was created for them leaving barely any room between me and their table. Yet, the servers and other guests continued to walked through this tiny space and I had to bend down or move my head every time to avoid being hit by people/food/plates. We also noticed once other tables were sitting that the server was offering them specials for the evening, we were never told of any specials.
Our server barely ever came to our table- never asked us if we wanted another drink or how our food was. We wanted dessert so we ordered tiramisu (very good). However it took so long to 1. Place the order and 2. Get it after it was ordered. When it came to the table, the whip cream was completely melted off. The kitchen could have at least pretended it wasn’t sitting there for so long and put new whip cream on.
Now, one we were done eating, we asked for the check and of course at this point the server comes extremely quick to pick that up (it actually looked like a manager? That brought the check). Barely had time to put my credit card in there. Then, we were just waiting for my friend to come back from the bathroom but we’re ready to leave and the server has the nerve to tell us that someone else is waiting for our table and we needed to leave. We could’ve been gone an our before that if she had ever bothered to check on our table and bring our food out.
I understand that it may have been busy, but do not ask me to leave as if I was the one causing the delay.
We had a wonderful and delicious pre-show dinner. We were going to a concert at the Beacon Theatre which is 1-1/2 blocks away from the restaurant. It was wonderful!!!
We all had something different and we all loved what we had. We talked about it again after the show and in the taxi ride to Penn Station and again on the long train ride to Trenton Transit Center.
All our dinners were served hot and in a very timely fashion. Our waiter was very nice and a true professional. He was kind enough to pull the directions up on his phone to show us how close we were to the theatre.
We will be back again for sure, either before or after going to the Beacon Theatre or any theatre in that area. What a great find!!! Thanks Serafina:-)
Tables far enough apart, music not so loud as to interfere with conversation.
They sat us late and right next to the bathroom. Though convenient to the Beacon Theater, the food is mediocre and the waiters rude. Would never recommend it.
Due to the show at the Beacon Theater, the place was slammed. The hostess did a very good jog at keeping calm and moving through the reservations. We had a 6pm reservation and were seated at 6:30, no big deal, we had a great meal and made it to the show on time.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful brunch. Service could have been more attentive.
Caveat: It may be unfair to review an UWS restaurant on Thanksgiving Eve, when the balloon crowd is swarming. That said, our experience at Serafina Upper West was unhappy. We were seated on time, but the hostess listed us as no-shows with OpenTable. The food was moderately overpriced (as expected in this chain) but mediocre (worse than expected compared to the UES branch). Our waiter and busboy were friendly if overwhelmed.
Excellent pre concert meal! Food & service on the money.
Host was very accomodating seating our group next to our friends at the bar.
This is a very nice popular neighborhood family restaurant on Broadway at 77th Street, with a relaxed atmosphere. I can only speak of Sunday brunch, which is served from 7 AM. I arrived twenty minutes ahead of my guest and was immediately seated, with no pressure to wait for his arrival. Very nice service. We ordered their famous lemon ricotta pancakes (the best!) and will definitely return.
Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and plenty of meat in bolognese sauce.
Good portion which can be split if having salad( also serves at least 3 ) and appetizer.
Drinks pricey but to be expected in the city.
The service was awful and they forgot my order. There was no explanation, our waitress just disappeared for about 30 minutes and then my order appeared 30 minutes after everyone else's at the table had already arrived. Very disappointed and very poor service for Serafina.
They were really busy the night we went. We sat at our table for two for 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. The server - very nice - but clearly overwhelmed - just walked up and asked what we wanted to order. We asked for menus. After we ordered the food came out quickly but incorrectly. The gnocchi was overcooked and my dish was wrong. The correct dish came about 10 minutes later. Nobody came with water. Nobody came to ask if we wanted another glass of wine. Pretty sad experience and we are huge fans of the upper west side and stay at the NYLO annually.
Used to be a decent restaurant now its just a turn and burn
Coming from CT. We were caught in traffic which made us late for reservation. The staff very accommodating. Sat us within 20 minutes. Waiter was great. He rushed our food. We needed to eat and run to get to Beacon Theater. We plan on going back so we can take our time and enjoy the atmosphere as well as the food.
Go to place near the Beacon theater. Delicious pasta and desert. Noisy, crowded and hectic. Could do better serving the correct dishes. Got my desert wrong but it was good anyway.
Service was wonderful and always accommodating!
Food is always great and we all had a very enjoyable dinner!
VERY loud, somewhat expensive for what you get (which is not much of nothing special), limited vegetarian & vegan options (no veggie lasagne on menu, as I'd read online), 2 pieces of bread were delivered for 2 people, with no bread plates, & no additional bread offered--in fact the bread basket was removed as soon as we ate our bread, which did come with a tiny dish of olive oil. Wine list was limited, particularly if you are looking for something that is not dry. Wouldn't go back.
The place was too crowded, poor organization, a lot of time for bringing the check and getting someone to take the payment. Food had good taste and it was served quickly. The Serafina that's on the Tribecca is much better.
Not happy about being shoved into a back room (used for private parties). Table and chairs were set up at last minute in back to accommodate us, even though we had an advance reservation. It certainly appeared as though restaurant overbooked our reserved time slot.
Pizza oven wasn’t working. Salad was mediocre. Service was slow.
Strikingly unremarkable in a city with an abundance of remarkable dining venues. Its highest virtue is its propinquity.
Serafina is always solid. This was the first time at the UWS location, but everything tasted as remembered at other locations. Service was fantastic. Without knowing it, we were the last in the restaurant, but never did we feel rushed out.
Fantastic Food & Very Bad Service
Restaurant doesn’t have enough waiters
both the hostess and the server were incredibly rude. The gratuity was included on the bill and had it not been we would have not even tipped. it was the president of a company eating and somehow a glass of wine came 20 minutes after they finished the pizza that was brought. and no the restaurant was not busy. The server was one of the worst we've ever experienced in terms of how he spoke to the group, and how if we needed him he acted annoyed we asked for something. and the table next to us had a screaming child that screamed for the duration. We had 6 people so not sure why the gratuity was included but we just wanted to leave. We always dine with Serafina before events at Beacon and this will be the last time anyone in the group dines with Serafina. Its really how shame how terrible this chain has become.
Waiter had a super bad
eggs were cold - except for our server, everyone had no idea what was going on- hostess didn't give brunch menu at brunch time. It took them 15minutes to get some mustard on table and if you like mayo, they don't have any. They cannot walk to CVS nextdoor and purchase mayo - OK place - decent ambiance- nothing impressive
The chicken rollanti entree special came highly recommended by the waiter, was very dry, small portion size and when the bill came saw we were charged $40 for it. Major disappointment.
