Terrible service and a wait for table despite tons of empty tables and a reservation . Our waiter never checked on us and took 15 mins to take drink order . Then drinks took 15 min to get and it wasn’t even crowded. Food was cold, dry and overall subpar. This place is dated and relies on its location. Surprised it’s still around , no longer cutting edge or having any sort of upscale feel. Never going back.
Father’s Day! Awesome. Rachel gave great service even though it was busy!
You pay for the view at Sequoia. It is lively to dine on the banks of the Potomac but everything else is just average. We had the oysters on the half shell and it looked like they had not been done to order...like they had been sitting for a bit. They were fine but were garnished with a piece of seaweed. Why? My grilled octopus was a bit chewy and I wouldn’t know it had been grilled except the menu told me so. My medium (pink in the middle) steak came out medium rare which is why I order all my steaks medium these days but it was just ok. It was garnished with some strands of fresh oregano and dill. Again, why? Service was spotty. The busboy cleared away all our silverware after our appetizers and I had to mention it when our food was served to get fresh sets. Overall the food just didn’t justify the prices but it was nice to have a cocktail and watch the activity on the river.
Came to celebrate Father’s Day and we will be back for every Father’s day from now on! They had everything for the whole family. An outdoor grill with hotdogs and burgers for dads, face painters, balloon twister and MAGICIAN for the kids! Service was one of the best I’ve experienced, our drinks were always full and new silverware replenished. Pete did a great job. Thank you Sequoia for a Father’s day to remember.
Service was quite bad but food was fantastic. Beautiful place too
Quite possibly the best brunch that we’ve enjoyed - worldwide. 5 stars isn’t enough.
I feel like the quality of the food was not great. I wish Sequoia had better options for gluten-free and vegans. The view of the water is nice and the seating outside is great. I just wish the brunch buffet was better quality
I have never been to Sequoia and heard the brunch was good. Man was that an understatement! It was amazing. Food as far as the eye can see, balloon twisting and face painting for the kids, traveling magician, and don’t get me started on the deserts! Def going back again just to sample the food I never got to sample because I was so full!
Did I mention bottomless drinks as well! Passion fruit Bellini, Frosé, bloody Mary’s, Champaign, and mimosas.
Here for Fathers Day. Nice food selection. Fresh and tasty. Lovely beverage specials. Entertainment for the kids. Very popular- long line for the balloon and fave paint but very nice nonetheless
Would highly recommend for groups. And the scenery is beautiful as well.
I was highly disappointed with the quality of food. My family spoke highly of sequoia based off previous experience. I brought my husband to the fathers day brunch and was upset with the decrease in flavor and options that was presented. My family mentioned the variety in steak and seafood from their visit and we noticed no there was no steaks on our visit. which I was highly upset. I feel that the atmosphere and drinks were amazing, as well as the kid friendly face painting and balloon animals. I do not think I will be visiting again due to the quality of food for price.
I had an amazing time at Sequoia the other night! It was a beautiful night, the host was very accommodating of us even though the outside was full, and our server Pete was the best! Extremely professional, friendly, and made our night absolutely perfect!!
Very cool place. Great views. Lot of energy and people having fun. All the food was delicious. We waited for twenty five minutes though before anyone came to our table to welcome us and ask if we wanted to order a drink or anything to eat. After that they were responsive and the meal and our experience was good. They seemed to be very short on servers. When I told our server we were done with our food the table was cleared and she brought the check. No mention of dessert which was strange. I paid, under tipped because of the service and left. I would definitely go back however. Sit outside if you can. Looks like a lot of fun and different experience
Ellie was an excellent server. She was very attentive and knowledgeable. Had a friendly demeanor and made us feel welcome and at ease. I can not recommend Sequoia enough. I only wish I had had the chance to tell the manager how wonderful our service was. The food was incredible. Some of the best steak I’ve ever had! And that lobster bisque was divine!!
Bottom line, a beautiful place with very ordinary food.
Went this past Saturday and the weather was amazing. We asked for outdoor seating when we made our reservation. When we checked in, we were told outdoor seating was first-come-first-serve and we needed to check in with the outdoor hostess. Waited on another line, but luckily, they considered our reservations and put us to the front of the line and seated us just about right away.
We wanted to try a number of things and ordered 3 appetizers and 1 entree' to share. I asked that they come out 1 dish at a time. Unfortunately, all the dishes to include the single entree showed up at the same time. I think they were confused, I did hear other customers who were headed to shows at the Kennedy center asked for expedited service. They may have thought I wanted them all together, but I would have certainly wished to slow the evening down and enjoy it a little more.
My wife ordered a bourbon specialty cocktail which was very nice. I ordered a Maker's old fashion, which was a good strong pour, but I was disappointed that they used small ice cubes and a cheap desert cherry.
The following is the order we ate our food, rushing to eat hot food before cold since it all came out together. Our crab cakes were delicious and the best thing we ordered. The toast w/ foie gras was very good in that foie gras is always very good, but it offered nothing unique or interesting. The salad with burrata was tasteless and the cheese didn't flow out they way a fresh burrata should... perhaps because it was sitting on our table for 20 min because it came out with everything else. We also ordered half a dozen east coast and half a dozen west coast oysters. Unfortunately, by the time we reached them the ice in the raw bowl had all melted and the oysters were covered in water and the brine washed away. There was no real difference in the east vs west despite the markup for west coast oysters.
Terrible service. Arrived on time for our booking and waited 50 min to be seated. Hostess behaved like a surly tween. Seemed very put out to even be there. If you want this kind of experience go to Five Guys and bring a flask. Food was fine. View was amazing. As it is equally beautiful from a a Waterfront Park bench. Go to Fiola Mare. Or get take out and bring it to the Park.
We had a party of 6. Food was just OK. Our waitress was absent most of our visit. We had to request her several times.
I would recommend Sequoia's for brunch, not dinner.
Our server was Ellie from Russia (Caspian Sea Region). She was friendly and very courteous!!! She was very efficient and served us very well. We were a small group of 6 and we sat outside. The weather and ambience was fabulous and we had a wonderful experience. We live in the DC area and plan to be back for another brunch-lunch in the not too distant future.
The Becker Family
We enjoyed our brunch on the patio and owe many thanks to our wonderful server, Ellie!
We went for the Saturday brunch and had a great time! The food was delicious, hot, and plentiful! We highly recommend Sequoia.
Great food, service and overall experience!
Everything was perfect. Our server Ellie was wonderful. Ellie was so kind to me and my in-laws. We can’t wait to come back. Thanks so much!!!
Very unfortunate that the quality and portion size has gone down hill. I ordered scallops for $32 and there were 3 on my plate! that's $10 a scallop! Really? The baby corn on my plate tasted awful, did not eat it. Our entire party of 11 people were absolutely shocked. This was our 3rd celebratory event at Sequioa, a tradition, and needless to say we will not be doing that again. $509 was our bill and we were all still hungry.
Do not go to this tourist trap. Ask any local. Ultra poor service. Food is basically what you would find at a shopping mall chain restaurant. Spend your money and more importantly time elsewhere unless you are the type who gratitate to a pretentious scene
TLDR: make your reservations early unless you want to have people staring at you during dinner.
We had a late reservation at 9:30 our server tobiko was really sweet, and even though she seemed nervous because she was new, I know she has the potential to be a great server over time. We absolutely loved her.
Food was amazing.
We felt really rushed at the end by the bussers who stood there staring at us until we left. Super uncomfortable.
For $400+ for three people I expected better.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Sequoia. Ellie our server was amazing and super friendly. The food was delicious. The cake at the end was fantastic. Thanks for a great evening.
Terrific service, wonderful atmosphere on outdoor terrace, very good food.
Nice experience love the remod
I would recommend but I would give a disclaimer. I made my reservation online and it only allowed me to book for 10, I wrote a note, please increase to 11 and I called and increased it to 12. I was told no problem. When I arrive on Sunday I was told that there is a problem seating us and I asked the manager "why, I have a reservation" and he said they didn't have a problem seating my original 11 but the 12 would be a problem...really?! Okay, well this works out for everyone, I only need 11. I was told when I called it was $65 per person, I was charged 74 per person with a $149 tip applied and my service was horrible. I didn't make a stink because I was celebrating my staff and I didn't want to make them feel like I had a problem paying that much for them. My bill was $972 for not good service and we had 2 waiters assigned to our table. That was sad for such a nice establishment.
Absolute best buffet brunch I have ever seen. There was soo much to choose from and everything was fresh and delicious.
Worth every penny! Great food, great service, great time! If you are looking for a great place to have brunch then this is the place for you!
Was expensive but worth it for special occasions. We will definitely go back.
The food isn’t really good. You’re paying for the atmosphere which is AMAZING!
Beautiful atmosphere. Wonderful service. Food was great! Have been for dinner in quite a while. Still a wonderful place to enjoy the waterfront!
Lovely views from the outdoor dining patio. The bread was phenomenal, too bad the main course didn't live up to that standard. Good service, but both of us had fish that was slightly overcooked.
Exceptional food and amazing service! Ellie and her team made sure that every aspect of our dining experience was perfect. Thank you for making my son’s graduation so memorable.
There were several private events
the evening we dined. There was not enough wait staff to handle those not with these parties. The food was good but the service or lack there of made the experience not enjoyable.
Made a reservation requesting seating with a view, got to the restaurant and they told us they couldn’t honor the reservation request. Fine. Then they tell us there is a special event going on inside and therefore we would have to wait 30-45 min for a seat outside (even though I had a reservation).
Wife ordered the branzino and was told it was de-boned by the waiter... we received the dish and in fact the fish had not been deboned. Tables were cramped into small spaces.
We’ve been going to this restaurant for years to celebrate special occasions but I think this was the last time we’ll be visiting.
Visiting with family. The waiter catered to our every need. Was very professional and extremely friendly. Made it an excellent experience.
